but severe type of blood clot. jobina has been tracking this breaking story for us this morning pick jobina, this doctors say this vaccine is still safe. >> yes, reggie pick the cdc and fda will discuss the recommendation to pause the johnson & johnson vaccine at a news conference later this morning pick the agencies say all six cases were among women between 18 and 48 years old. symptoms occurred 6 to 13 days after vaccination, until both agencies review and investigate. they are calling for a pause in the use of the vaccine, more than 6.8 million doses of the j&j vaccine have already been administered in the u.s. brown university says he believes the j&j vaccine is, quote, exceedingly safe. >> these are very rare events, but we don't know if they are linked to the vaccine, and we don't know if there are other cases out there that we have missed. so it's the right thing to take a pause, a brief pause, gather some more data, make a plan, and then come back on the market. i know there are people who will be upset about this.

to vaccinate 3600 people a day . that is if supplies hold. we will have to wait and see what this johnson & johnson news does to supply and how it's going to affect it. but here at this site health officials say, they are going to be merging two sites that have been up and running, and combining here at the fairgrounds. they expected to be especially efficient, because they have designed it based on what they have learned so far administering the vaccine. kaiser had been running a high- volume site at carolyn high school, but the school is about to welcome schools back. kaiser has to move.to move.to m. the county has been operating a site at marin center. they are going to combine here at the fairgrounds, and they think they are going to, you know, streamline the process here, and make it better. they expect to go from 2500 shots a day here in the county, with those two sites, two 3600. you do need an appointment here at the fairgrounds, and you can make after the county. you do not need to be insured by kaiser, to be eligible for

year-old during a traffic stop. the police now saying, it was an accident. jobina, there are now calls for the officer to be fired and president biden is also reacting. >> thank you, reggie.you, reggi. oakland center police say officer kim potter meant to reach for her taser when she shot daunte wright. that explanation did not do much to calm protesters last night. police in riot gear deployed flashbangs and pepper balls as protesters spilled onto the streets. this comes as police released new body cam footage of the encounter. this is the video police say proves officer potter didn't mean to shoot ryan, instead, they say she accidentally pulled her gun and said of her taser, this morning wright's parents spoke with robin roberts on gma. >> i cannot accept i lost my son, he is never coming back. i can't accept that is a mistake. that doesn't even sound right. you know, this is an officer

liable. >> retired la county sheriff's officer commander charles hill disagrees. he says, there is not a simple solution animal training might help, human reaction to a life and death situation is to survive. >> this is a people thing. it's not law enforcement. it's not indifference, it's not bigotry. is hardwired, crucifying the police officers is not going to make a difference. >> he says this incident, with wright, was far from a routine traffic stop, because there was at least one warrant involved. a student at tennessee high school, who shot at officers, was killed. officers were responding to reports of a popopopopopo austin megan high school in knoxville. they say they found the suspect in a bathroom. officers ordered him to come out, but he refused. that is when police say the suspect fired his weapon. officers fired back, killing the teen.

one officer was shot in the leg and had to go into surgery. the second u.s. capitol police officer who died this year will lie and honor at the capitol rotunda today. today, there will be an invite only congressional tribute for william billy evans. vice president kamala harris is expected to attend. earlier this week, officer evans was guarding the capital when a car rammed into him, and another officer, at a checkpoint. the attacker died after police shot him. evans manned security post for several of his 18 years on the force. once his remains apart dc later today, evans will be honored in a private funeral and burial in his massachusetts hometown. still ahead, investigators on the scene of an overnight shooting in oakland, the city seeing a spike in violent crime what oakland police cpolice cpoc asking the city council to do. with covid cases dropping, san francisco is getting ready to open up more public spaces, when pools and libraries may

it's mostly clear and inland east bay neighborhoods, with temperatures in the upper 40s, to even a few mid-50s around antioch and brentwood. a little bit cooler around lafayette at about 46, same thing in black hawk. coolest weather in north bay, also fog around novato, watch out for that, low to mid 40s there. upper 40s in san francisco, pacific all the way down the mountain view, then from san jose, hayward and oakland, 50 to 51 degrees. temperatures pretty steady through 7:00, with increasing clouds. look at the coast, mid 50s

today with gusts up to 40 miles per hour possible. 59 to 62, noon to 4:00 for the bay neighborhoods from noon to 4:00. 62 to 68, so significantly cooler inland today. but this cool air is bringing in very clean air, green all the way through thursdaythroughy good morning, jobina. >> in mourning, mike. thank you. hi, everyone, starting with the look of the bay bridge. this is the busy spot this morning, i put up the drive time for you, when it will take you from the toll plaza all the way across to san francisco, should be around 17 minutes, speeds are averaging below 30 miles per hour. we do not have metering lights on at the toll plaza though. if you are headed that way, from the east bay, bringing you a picture showing emeryville right now, this is 80. those headlights are making their way westboundway westboune the maze. everything is at the limit. pretty much everywhere else around the bay area, you can see it's green, except coming out of tracy. i do want to point out the fog though, especially around novato as you travel along 101,

be careful of his ability. as cases drop, san francisco is preparing to reopen several public spaces in the coming months. the city expects all of its pools to be reopened by mid- june. and right now, mission community pool is the only one open. next tuesday, the solver and the martin luther king jr. pools will reopen, followed by the newly renovated garfield pool on may 1st, and many more the first week of june. libraries open sometime in the june. plan is to resume limited in person services, starting at the main library in the civic center. however, no official date has been set. the library commission will meet on thursday to discuss their reopening plans. coming up, a sneak peek at a new documentary, examining climate change in the u.

new this morning, oakland police are investigating an apparent shooting outside of

the market. new video shows investigators outside of the pnm market on 34th and hollis street, just before midnight. you can see glass and the number of evidenced markers on the ground. it's not clear what led up to this shooting or if anyone was hurt. all of this is coming as oakland city council has voted unanimously to allocate $10 million, to restore funding to the cities police and department. the city's new police chief that they are facing a big spike in violent crime this year. look at these numbers, homicides up to hundred 15%, so far this year, with 41 reported there were 13 this time last year. carjackings had jumped 149 cases reported this year. compared with 57 last year, chief armstrong says, officers have responded to 340 robberies since january. robberies up in every district of the city. he's asked city council members to allot funding from the federal care act to the police

force. >> the city has to understand, 41 homicides, that is 41 families. 41 families that are impacted by the silence, 41 families are hurting. i hear the pain, >> armstrong says since june of last year, $25 million has been cut from the department budget. the north bay they are now facing multiple sex assault accusations, will not represent sonoma county on the golden gate bridge district. the county is going to resend that new seat, and its board of supervisors is going to meet about that this morning. six women accused dominic foppoli of sexual assault, including esther lemus. to avoid conflict of interest, the county is turning over the investigation and the decision on any potential criminal charges to the state attorney general's office. dominic foppoli said he has done nothing wrong and will not resign. the windsor town council is going to take some action. >> we immediately condemned the

great job. so make sure you tune in and watch that. we would appreciate it. it is pretty breezy in san francisco. ill be breezy everywhere today with increasing sun shining cooler highs. pretty steady and calm her through at least thursday, high temperatures get much warmer this weekend. here's a look at the high- pressure, same almost exact spot we had during the recent drought. there's really no rain in the forecast the next two weeks. mid to upper 60s in the south bay. 61 to 65 on the peninsula. very wrong, mid-50s. low 60s in downtown in south san francisco, 67 to possibly 74 through the north bay dollies. 64 to 67 degrees along the east bay shore him and 68 to 75 in the east bay dollies. now, around the state, we are looking at temperatures that are going to be running around 56. so we got a chance of snow at 6900 feet and dropping tonight, up to 8 inches possible in some of the ski resorts. so that's nice. we could use all we can get. temperatures tonight, cloud cover lot like this morning.

throughout all of our neighborhoods. and that means cooler weather today, even with more sunshine. 56 to 61 half moon bay into san francisco. low to mid 60s around the rest of the day, 70s for most of us inland. we will talk about some really warm weather this weekend, coming up. back to you, kumasi. thank you. this morning, we are tracking breaking news when it comes to the vaccine. both the cdc and the fda now recommending a pause on using the johnson & johnson vaccine in the u.s. there have been six reports of a rare but severe type of blood clot and jobina is at the live desk with more and what these agencies are saying. >> thank you, kumasi. the six cases of the blood clots were on women 18 to 48, symptoms occurred 6 to 13 days after vaccination, more than 6.8 million doses of the j&j vaccine have already been administered in the u.s. both the cdc and fda will review and investigate. once they do, or while they do that, they are calling for a pause in the use of the vaccine. this morning, from brown university, they say this move

proves the system is working and he believes the vaccine is still safe. we are reaching outreaching outt county health departments, as well as the state, to see how this impacts them, and we will let you know when we hear back. meanwhile, cdc director dr. michelle wilensky is pleading with the state of michigan, to shut down amid skyrocketing covid cases. governor gretchen whitmer says the lockdown is not necessary. she says, doubling down on vaccine distribution to achieve 70% herd immunity is the answer. >> we have to grit our teeth and keep moving forward. we are making great progress. we are getting close. >> go back to our basics, go back to where we were last spring, last summer, and to shut things down, to flatten the curve. >> across the country, the daily case average is now at peak summer surge levels, that's about 66,000 cases per day. experts say loosening restrictions and more contagious variants are driving the spike meanwhile, fema is now accepting applications for

covid funeral reimbursements. officials say within the first 90 minutes of applications being opened, they received nearly 1 million calls, reggie? >> jobina, thank you. now to the race of acne people here in the bay area. two moore county have opened up vaccine appointment ability to anyone 16 and up. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live at a new vaccination site opening today at the marin county fairgrounds. hi, amy. >> reporter: hi, reggie. alameda and santa clara county will give the residence a couple days of a jumpstart on the rest of the state. they are going to start allowing 16 and older to get vaccinated now. fights across the state, like this one here at the marin county fairgrounds, are going to be able to start doing that, starting on thursday. everyone in the state eligible, who is over the age of 16, starting later this week. sites are getting better, getting more efficient at getting the shots out, as time goes by. their issue, they say, is applied. they say the infra structure is

there, they just have to deal with inconsistent shipments of the vaccine. >> there isn't enough vaccine supply already, and so i think that that is a challenge that we are all facing. people in the interim time i think are just going to have to be patient. we asked people to be patient and register with those sites, so that we can contact you, when more vaccine supply becomes available. >> reporter: the demand in the bay area is definitely there. look at this line, outside zuckerberg san francisco general hospital this weekend. apel were hoping to get 2000 doses that were available. 4000 walk-ins were turned away over the weekend in the city, so as eligibility continues to go up, that demand is going to go up there you are just going to have to fight to find the shot. officials say, keep trying. reporting live in san rafael, amy hollyfield, abc seven news. >> thank you, amy. >> reporter: san francisco health officials say while i would ability is opening to

by police last year just 10 miles away at abc news reporter faith abubey reports, police now say it was an accident. >> reporter: good morning. that explanation did not do much to calm protesters. president biden is calling for a full investigation. vp harris says prayers are not enough and that daunte wright family deserve answers. overnight, police in riot gear, deploying flashbangs and pepper balls, as anger spilled onto the brakes streets of brooklyn center, a suburb of minneapolis. crowds breaking into local businesses and looting. new police body cam footage, now showing the moment officers struggled with the 20-year-old, after pulling him over in the afternoon. first, for an expiredan expiredd registration, then realizing wright had an outstanding warrant from its mean in charge as wright tries to get in his car, you hear an officer yelling taser. but instead of a taser, officer kim potter, 26 year veteran of the police force, pulled out a gun, firing a single shot. >> i just saw him. >> reporter: wright car

traveling several blocks before crashing. police chief calling the shooting and accidental discharge. potter, now on administered leave, the mayor of brooklyn center saying, he supports relieving her of her duties. >> we cannot afford to make mistakes that lead to the loss of life. >> reporter: wright family, calling for peace as they grieve. >> i don't want all of this, i just want my baby home. >> reporter: president biden has denounced the violence and looting on the streets of brooklyn center. he said he has not called daunte wright family, but they are in his prayers. in washington, faith abubey, abc7 news. a small group of protesters outside the san jose police department, they carry black lives matter flags and assign calling for sj pd to be abolished. as protesters started to march, a flag was set on fire in the middle of the street. warriors head coach steve kerr addressed the deadly shooting. >> my reaction is just, you know, another sad day in

america. i know there is a school shooting in tennessee as well, it's just, you know, it's just devastating. these things seem to happen on a daily basis. >> he said the warriors did not talk about postponing their own game last night. he said he is not surprised the teens in minnesota chose not to play there is. happening today, the prosecution's case against former minneapolis police officer derek chauvin is expected to conclude today. the defense will present its case, starting tomorrow. yesterday, george floyd younger brother gave an emotional testimony, sharing memories of their relationship. the testimony wrapped up with the use of force expert who said that no, quote, leave reasonable officer would have done what chauvin did. abc is providing live gavel to gavel coverage of this trial on our abc7 bay area connected tv app. you can download it wherever you stream. this morning, officials on the caribbean island of st. vincent are once again warning

residents to leave. a volcano there just keeps erupting, blanketing the island with ash and debris. the series of eruptions have destroyed roofs, the lava flow is so hot, it could boil the sea. blooms have reached as far as barbados, which is 110 miles away from st. vincent. meanwhile, volcano on iceland erupted for the first time in 800 years. and in hawaii, 34 earthquakes have rocked not to lower, the world's largest volcano. they salol this volcanic activity is noteworthy, it isn't uncommon. >> there are thousands of volcanoes around the world, everyone of them erupts relatively often. most of the time, there is an active eruption somewhere in the world, so the fact that there's two or three at the same time, coincidence. >> what makes the volcano so unsafe and dangerous, it doesn't spew out slow-moving lava, there is also hot gas, ash, and rocks that can move at

for more on that. good morning. >> in mourning, jobina. the fog is spreading to the east, thanks to the offshore onshore breeze. we have vowed to talk about along the peninsula coast, thankfully visibility here is about 3 miles, not nearly as low as it is in novato and napa. temperatures in the low 40s, 41 in redwood city and menlo park. you can see mid 40s to low 50s, just about everywhere, until you get to napa at about 41 degrees. here's a look at what to expect with our planner, not much of a change, as we head to 7:00. but the breezes will keep the coast. look at that, 53 to 54, 949 as we head into the evening hours. 59 to 62 noon and around the bay and inland. if you are out at 9:00, already into the low 50s. the one thing you may be concerned with is the fog this morning, but the winds especially north-south bridges as we head into the evening commute. that is going to make it dusty and choppy out on the bay also.

here's the area of lilo pressure that continues to steer all the wet weather away from us. it's almost in the same exact position it was in during a recent drought. didn't want to hear that, did you? mid to upper 60 in the south bay, 64 to 69, 61 to 65 on the peninsula. look at that, mid-50s with the gusty breezes and blowing sand along the peninsula coast. low 60s for downtown in south san francisco and sausalito. mid-50s along the coast, but 67 to 74 in east bay shore, we got 64 to about 67 degrees. and lind, 60 in the dry valley to 75 out in brentwood. you can see those gusty winds, they will keep the clouds along the peninsula coast, up until about noon. even those will start to fade and mix outcome as we head into the afternoon and evening hours. it'll be kind of a brisk day at the old bar park number 6:45 is the first pitch at oracle, down to 53 degrees. extra cloud cover outside the north bay, temperatures in the 40s tonight. let's take a look at what's going on with the seven-day forecast. what you are going to see are temperatures that are going to be about the same through

delaying the rollout of its covid-19 vaccine in europe. this is because six reported cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot will reported here in the u.s. overnight, the fda and the cdc issued a recommendation that the vaccine be paused in the u.s. moments ago, cvs and walgreens both announced they are pulling this vaccine. the fda and the cdc will hold a news conference in a few minutes at 7:00, and you can watch it on our website, abc7news.com. number two, a new vaccination site is opening today at the marin county fairgrounds. health officials hope to vaccinate up to 3600 people a day, depending on supply. appointment are required. number three, protests continue in brooklyn center, minnesota, after lease officers shot and killed a 20-year-old driver during a traffic stop. police now say it was an accident, that the officer was reaching for her taser. number four, the prosecution's case against former minneapolis officer derek chauvin is inspected and today. the defense will present its case tomorrow. closing arguments could begin in one week.
