[ laughter ] there is some good news. you can see there is no real fog. there are marine layer clouds but those aren't going to last very long today except the coast where they will linger longer.

the breezes aren't as fast as they were yesterday. that's what kept the clouds from staying along the peninsula coast. keep an eye on that as you head through some neighborhoods. if you drive into higher elevations, you may run into those clouds. partly cloudy along the coast. 58 at half moon bay. 62 in san francisco. mid to upper 60s around the bay. a little warmer than yesterday but nothing like the record warmth. i will have that coming up. i'm going to turn it over to jobina fortson. sad and serious issues on the road this morning. jobina. i want to start with a live look at the bay bridge. you can see the brake lights as people head up to the upper deck. speeds are crawling, under 10 miles per hour right now. there is a crash right at treasure island. it is blocking one lane. they turned on metering lights early. it is completely packed.

they flipped on around 5:48. a serious issue in richmond as well. csp has confirmed that a pedestrian was hit on westbound 580 at the bayview avenue on- ramp. air ambulance has been sent. those are all the details we know right now. reggie. federal health officials will meet about johnson & johnson's covid-19 vaccine. the shot as you probably heard was paused out of an abundance of caution due to a possible risk of blood clots. we are going to bring jobina back in for more. >> reporter: thank you, reggie. officials expect to make a decision on the johnson & johnson vaccine within the next few days. they may limit the population who they recommend get vaccines. officials can investigate an extremely rare blood clotting disorder. it developed in just 6 of 7 million people. one woman died and another is

in critical condition. officials don't know if it was the vaccine that caused the disorder. i also want to let you know that health officials believe the benefits of getting vaccinated far outweigh any potential risks. to put this into context with how rare this disorder is, the chance of developing it is less than one in 1 million. you have a higher chance of being hit by lightning. every single county will continue vaccination efforts this morning but without the johnson & johnson vaccine. they have decided to stop using it for now. they say it won't have a significant impact. abc7 reporter amy hollyfield joining us live with more on this morning, amy. >> reporter: hi, good morning, kumasi. there is some scrambling going on to try to make sure they don't cancel any appointments at places like this one, the

fairgrounds here in pleasanton. they have decided to stop using the j&j vaccine. here's what it means in the different counties. contra costa county, they are keeping appointments for now because only a small percentage of the vaccines are johnson & johnson there. the mass vaccination site at oakland coliseum was relying on j&j but it was able to switch to the pfizer vaccine and did not have to cancel any appointments. santa clara county does not expect the change to slow down its plan of vaccinating everyone at 2:00. it looks like the impact will be minimal here in the bay area. >> from a supply-chain standpoint, i don't think it will hinder it as much as i can if it was pfizer our moderna. >> reporter: this also won't be a huge problem in san francisco. of the 10,000 doses the city received, only 500 were johnson & johnson. across the state, 8800 appointments made on the my turn website were set to

receive j&j so those will be switched to moderna and pfizer. in total, the j&j vaccine only made up 4% of the states supply. live in pleasanton, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> many women are wondering if this is safe. the rare blood clot disorder appeared in six women. they were 18 to 48 years old. federal health officials are looking into what could be triggering this disorder. >> it is younger women that seem to be at highest risk. there are other risks in the age group. for example, that's when autoimmune diseases start to appear. that's on birth control pills are being used. there may be other factors involved. >> experts say taking a few days to pause and investigate shows that the monitoring system is working. tomorrow, all of california

and 16 and up will be eligible. most of you in the bay area are already there. santa clara and san francisco county have joined solano county in expanding early. santa clara county officials say they made the decision after receiving a big influx of doses from the government. when we are hearing about concerns regarding the supply, that is not the case in the most populous county here in the bay area. >> the county is receiving a lot of vaccines. significant increase is coming directly from the federal government. combined with the increase from the state, we have enough vaccine really to quickly reach the goal of protecting the entire community. >> they announced they would be opening up vaccinations to everyone but they cautioned the supply is limited. starting at midnight, go to myturn.ca.gov to look for an

appointment. as we just mentioned, demand consistently outpaces supply supposed to be patient. a san francisco neighborhood is frustrated after a rash of violent attacks on asian americans. an asian man was stabbed five times over the weekend. dion lamp sat down with him as they address this crisis. this is a story you will only see on abc7 news. >> reporter: how many times was he stabbed? >> five. five times. >> reporter: once in the head? >> once on the chest. >> reporter: 53-year-old chiling lee shows me the stab wounds he sustained as he was walking home from work later saturday. >> i didn't pay attention. the guy that come to attack me -- >> reporter: so fast? >> so fast.

>> reporter: his wife explains how they tried to fight off the attacker who still managed to escape with lee's backpack. >> he hit him. >> reporter: well he deals with a punctured lung and emotional trauma, other people feel under attack. at a virtual press conference, 70% increase of assaults was increased. just one day after the stabbing, 61 and 71-year- old asian women were attacked and robbed. residents expressed their frustration. >> i'm trying to move out. don't want people to stay here? >> reporter: despite the increased patrol force, enough is enough for this family. >> if there is a good chance, we could plan to -- the san

francisco rent is so expensive. >> reporter: for now, the focus is recovery. they hope to buy a car so they won't have to walk home from the bus stop anymore. happening today, the senate is set to hold a vote on legislation confronting the rise of potential hate crimes against asian americans. yesterday senate majority leader chuck schumer called for support on the hate crimes act. he said he plans to add that no hate act as the first partisan amendment. the senate needs 60 votes to move forward with that bill. an announcement expected in minnesota today on the heels of the death of 20-year-old daunte wright i police. the next step in the case as protests continue. the program offering an incentive for workers heading back to offices in san francisco. i am monitoring some marine

today if the officer who killed daunte wright is going to face charges. i was another night of protests in brooklyn center. >> if you do not does. peacefully, you will be arrested. >> officer kim potter says she mistakenly fired her gun think it was her taser. wright great grandmother safe police abuse their authority. >> i was a deputy sheriff. you don't mistake a gun for a taser. >> the chief of police also resign. officers pulled wright over sunday and discovered there was a warrant for his arrest on a misdemeanor charge. the trial for the officer accused of killing george floyd is resuming this morning. the defense started presenting its case yesterday. lawyers for the former minneapolis police officer are trying to counter the assertion that lloyd died because of chauvin's knee on his neck.

into the valleys, low to mid 70s. we have 65 in richmond to 67 in oakland. and then we break into the low to mid 70s. and looking at the fog forecast, a lot of it is marine layer clouds. back to the coast, unlike yesterday, it's not going to thin out that moisture. it's going to allow it to remain in place. you have some more clouds along the coast especially the peninsula coast. we have mountain snow and mount valley rain. a couple of inches possible. how about that? for tonight, a little more fog. mid-30s in the inland valleys. my seven-day forecast, pretty steady tomorrow. you can see the temperatures warm friday but the big jump is saturday into sunday. we'll have 80s and 90s. comfortably cool 60s at the coast. temperatures will start tapering monday to tuesday.

american to be eligible for a vaccine by may 1st. 60,000 johnson & johnson sounds like a lot. that's how many the state was supposed to be receiving. that's not going to be the case anymore as there is that pause in the johnson & johnson vaccine because of the blood clot issues being investigated. we are hearing from the governor, doctors, counties put that in the bay area at the impact is not going to be so great. abc7 reporter amy hollyfield is live. amy, i hope it makes sense. >> reporter: okay, reggie. remember, the supply of j&j already dropped this week significantly because of a manufacturing issue. vaccination sites like this one in pleasanton, they are going to be switching to the moderna and pfizer vaccine for any appointments they had scheduled. in contra costa county, they are keeping appointments for now because only a small

percentage art johnson & johnson. the mass vaccination site was relying on j&j but it was able to switch to the pfizer vaccine and did not have to cancel any appointments. santa clara county does not expect the change to slow down its plan to start vaccinating everyone. it too will switch appointments to pfizer and moderna. the j&j shot was easier to take on the road. j&j does not need to be stored at cold temperatures like the others. in marin county, they say this will be forcing them to change up their plan to vaccinate the homeless. >> unfortunately now, we are having to shift to pfizer for those mobile operations. we are going to continue that pace but it is going to be with a different product that is just not as easy to work with. >> reporter: the vaccine from j&j makes up only 4% of the

police fired flash bangs. today, we expect an announcement on possible charges. according to kstp, the county attorney office lands on charging kim potter today. wright's loved ones are demanding a murder charge. >> i just want justice. it's just not fair. >> reporter: potter resigned yesterday saying in part, quote, i believe it is in the best interest if i resign immediately. however, the mayor has not accepted the resignation. local leaders say she should be fired because resignation could allow her to collect a pension. tim gannon has also resigned after being criticized for the response. reggie. thank you. two men never burrowed arrested and one was from the cold case from the 90s. kristin smart disappeared in
