quite the milestone here. this mass vaccination site breaking a state record. vacs are now open to all californians over 16. how long will the long will thee infrastructure remain in place? breaking news in indianapolis where multiple people have been shot at a fedex facility. police responded to shots fired. they found an active shooter incident in progress. police have not said how many people were shot or if anybody was killed. the gunman took his own life.

california department of public health hopes people will be patient during this vaccine eligibility influx. >> our goal is to be able to do up to five million per week. right now we're doing two million residents. as that goes up, we'll be able to scale to that all. >> reporter: pfizer said a third booster of their vaccine could be needed within 12 months. and moderna is running trials for boosters. >> do you anticipate california's vaccine infrastructure to be sort of a long-term commitment? >> that's been our approach from the very beginning. to build out a large network of providers. >> reporter: almost 16 million californians have received at least one covid-19 dose. >> i would guess we're up pushing 50% of people with some degree of immune right now in california. i think we'll be getting toward something approaching herd immunity mid-may or something. >> reporter: he says california is poised to outrun surges that

other states are seeing, especially as more teenagers get vaccinated. >> that's gonna put a big dent in these numbers. >> we're in a very good place. in the south bay, crowds crd back at levi stadium. the site was bustling with thousands throughout the day. eager to receive their vaccine. >> reporter: a major milestone for santa clara county. on thursday levi stadium tweeted "yesterday we broke the record for most vaccinations administered at a single site in california". 10,000 appointments were made. >> i think what it signalled is we're getting close to helping everybody get across the finish line. >> reporter: the county supervisor said appointments went to 12,000 on thursday. 15,000 can be seen daily.

>> it's one of the few places we happen to put that many people through. >> reporter: all social distancing. for some, lines were reminiscent of a theme park. >> the lines were moving quicker than disneyland. >> i think it had amazing organization and we just walked and walked. >> reporter: santa clara county took that step on tuesday. that's when local public health leaders announced the county was set to receive 300,000 doses from the federal government. opening tens of thousands additional vaccine appointments in the weeks ahead. people tell us from start to finish, the process could take up to 2.5 hours. >> i know it's a little bit of a hassle. but one you get over this, you can go back to the great america parkway on the other side.

>> coming up, and all people, it's kind of hopeful. april 15th is usually tax day. but today it was vax day. and the governor stressed we cannot let our guard down. >> this disease will come roaring back. ask the governor of michigan. ask folks around the rest of the world. the rest of the globe. >> the governor made these remarks and addressed vaccine hesitancy. the governor spoke with those in line with vaccinators and global officials about the challenges of talking people

into getting a shot. >> now we have lifted that burden. and that anxiety around age and conditions and availed every californian 16 and over the opportunity to get these vacs. >> reporter: the governor said 49%, or virtually half of all eligible californians, have gotten at least one vaccine shot. he believes the key to getting more shots in arms is these small community clinics. but folks on the ground told the governor it's not so easy to get people past their vaccine hesitancy or indifference. >> some people don't want to hear about the vaccine. and some people are grateful that we give them the information. >> reporter: local officials say they'll intentifiy their campaign to convince people to get shots. >> i think that will convince people to think about getting vaccinated.

>> we know it can be challenging because there's so many people trying to get their shots. you can track california's progress. go to abc7news.com/vaccine. at least 100 protestors marched through the mission district in solidarity with dante wright, the minnesota shot who was fatally shot by an officer last sunday. they're drawing attention to roger allen, a man shot by daley city police last night. they are calling for defunding, disbanding and abolishing the police. for cleaning up the vandalism left by a group of procedure last night. most were dressed in black. the protestors spray-painted 18 police graffiti and the name dante wright was left in several locations. the mayor of chicago called for calm after a police body cam video was released late today.

it shows 13-year-old adam toledo being shot during a foot chase last month. protestors took to the streets to condemn the shooting. the video is difficult to watch. >> reporter: you're about to witness a tragedy unfold in the blink of an eye. chicago police respond to reports of shots fired. >> i heard gunshots. >> how many did you hear? >> a lot. more than five. >> reporter: an officer arrived at the scene. body camera rolling. he faces to an'lly in hot pursuit. shoving the second suspect aside during the chase. then suddenly a conconfrontation. the officer yelling to see the suspect's hands. the suspect stopping and turning quickly. the officer fires his shot. the officer begins cpr but it's too late. the confusion is over, we learn the suspect is only 13 years

old. his name is adam toledo. the officer said the boy had a gun in his hand. you can see a handgun a few feet away from the young man along this fence. at the critical moment in the video when the shot was fired, it's hard to see any gun in the boy's hand. an investigation is ongoing to determine what happened. today chicago's mayor said it's all too much. a boy out in the city in the wee hours with an adult, a handgun in the mix. an unwinnable situation with an almost predictable terrible ending. >> in the middle of the night, this child was in contact with an adult who had a gun. there are a number of forces that met up at 2:30 in the morning on march 29th in an alley. and simply put, we failed adam. >> we don't have all the answers. we have a lot of vetted local resources to help you navigate some of the biggest challenges in our community. we gathered those resources all in

in the south bay, thousands of students returned to to schools today. a community and elementary school district partially reopened. there are 50 measures in place. including social distancing reminders. hand sanitizing stations and kids get their own supplies. >> having everyone come back on campus, there's new energy.

as the principal, i feel like it really fills my soul, the attitude of the students and drives me. >> next door at mexican heritage plaza is a vaccination site run by gardener health services open three days a week. today was the first day of ticket sales for disneyland. and the website was flooded because who done want to be happiest place on earth? some people waited online for several hours. currently only california residents are allowed to buy tickets. they also need a reservation for when they will enter the park. disney is the parent company of abc seven. >> i'm in the online cue right now. i think it's gonna be a while. today universal studios, in southern california reopened. what visitors should expect.

app for tickets, food and parking. in the east bay, the alameda county fair will be back this year. organizers announced there is a move from a traditional date in june and july to october. officials anticipate guests will be required to prepurchase tickets online for specific dates and attendance will be limited. so many people are facebook so excited about anything that feels halfway normal. >> yes. and i think we're gonna have fair weather. lemonade sales will be booming. >> ah, yeah. >> especially when those 90s show up inland. and the fair is going to be delayed until october. the weather here is fantastic in the fall. i want to show you what it looks like
