protests over recent police shootings. in minnesota and oakland, people marching in the streets, protesting the death of daunte wright. in brooklyn center, police pepper sprayed tonight, right outside police headquarters. >> in oakland, vandals targeted stores in the aftermath of a march. kate larson has been tracking that protest and what happened after. >> she joins us live in the newsroom, >> reporter: there has been som, thughout the the bay area, people have been protesting after recent deadly police shootings. 11 months after george floyd died in police custody, now frustration and anger continues after more black men have died at the hands of police. take a look, a crowd of several hundred people gathered at oscar grant plaza. the group marched through the downtown streets of oakland.

video from the scene shows a group of vandals broke windows, graffitied, and set fires to several local businesses, including this bank and the store. a flyer has been circulating on social media for the past few days that says abolished police and asks for justice for daunte wright, shot and killed in minnesota last week. donovan lynch, who was shot in virginia last month, and tyrell wilson, a man who was also shot and killed by police last month. i spoke to oakland city councilmember noel gallo about how oakland stored boarded up windows. >> i understand the frustrations , the only thing i would do is respect properties. we have a right to demonstrate, protest, at the same time, we also need to keep those businesses open to keep our people employed.

>> that is what abolished maine's, abolishing police activities and put in its place more humane sociological policing that help preserve the community as opposed to tearing it down, killing people. it is not just shootings, those we all know. it is t■he day in, day out policing where people are subject to racial profiling, police officers are stopping them, looking at them in their cars, represent hundreds of people, so they are angry, and they should be. >> reporter: we continue to get video into the newsro shows a group of people smashing the windows of a target and a car dealership, cars on fire. many of these same businesses were damaged last summer after demonstrations against police violence. more families, people of color, here in the bay area and beyond, continue to be devastated the actions of police in their communities.

thousands of demonstrators rallied in chicago tonight, demanding justice for adam toledo, a day after the city released video showing an officer fatally shooting a 13- year-old. some of the crowd tonight says they were there to protest a system of policing that is not working and they plan to march to the mayor's house to deliver their message. closing arguments set to begin in the derek chauvi murder trial, jurors will get the case and begin deliberations. they will have three weeks of evidence and testimony to consider as they determine whether the former minneapolis police officer caused george floyd's death. ahead of the verdict, minneapolis schools are closing over concerns of potential disruptions. the district says all students will shift to distance learning next week. art of building a better bay area is fighting for racial and social justice. we don't have all the answers, we do have a lot of local resources, to find out more about how you can take action

another tragic mass shooting last night at a fedex warehouse in indianapolis. eight people were killed and several others injured. police released the names of the deceased victims who range in age from 19 to 74. fedex has confirmed the gun man was a 19-year-old former employee who took his own life. gunmen had been interviewed by the fbi last year after his mother reported him as a danger to himself. overseas tonight, the final preparations have been completed for tomorrow's funeral for prince philip. the palace released this never before seen photo of the prince and queen elizabeth years ago. tonight, we are learning about how the pandemic and family dynamics impacted those funeral plans. julia macfarlane has the details. >> reporter:

spent years planning the details of his own funeral. the ceremony will reflect not just his life and his own personal tastes, but also his years of service. covid-19 may have forced big changes to tomorrow's funeral for prince philip, but his touch is all over much of the details. new updates on the ceremony, scaled down and socially distance from the guest list includes 30 people, the national legal limit for funerals. in normal times, a ceremonial royal funeral would have seen the coffin on a horse-drawn carriage with all the trimmings. but for the duke, a personal touch. a modified classic british land rover that the duke himself helped to design
