so closely around the country and j.r., the world. >> reporter: certainly was. we have seen quite the reaction across the country and the world, peaceful reactions as not just one or two guilty charges but three guilty charges and what a unique moment it was where you had the president and vice president speaking. the vice president kamala harris actually speaking before the president a little while ago. take a listen. >> today we feel a sigh of relief. still, it cannot take away the pain. america has a long history of systemic racism. black americans and black men in particular have been treated throughout the course of our history as less than human. >> most men and women who wear the badge serve their communities honorably. but those few who fail to meet that standard must be held accountable and they were today.

one was. no one should be above the law. we have a chance to begin to change the trajectory in this country. it's my hope and prayer that we live up to the legacy. may god bless you, and may god bless george floyd and his family. in washington, d.c. in front of the black lives matter letters outside of the white house, this african-american man fell to his knees after learning of the verdict. those who were out there say he was in tearing saying he saw himself in george floyd. there was a sense from so many across the country who felt as though justice has been served but at the same time saying, that it didn't bring george floyd back. now this was the scene outside of the cup foods in minneapolis where the incident with george floyd happened. hundreds of people outside there there were cheers and again tears after the verdict was read. we saw people hugging, so many

describing this as a moment in history, george floyd's family also reacting to the news today. they were in houston texas here is what they had to say. >> words can't put it, explain what i feel right now. just emotions just going through my body. so happy that my uncle finally got justice. this isn't just for him this is only the beginning. >> this is just a start. the beginning we're very happy. justice has been served. >> so so happy right now. if you can just feel every beat of my heart. to see him, handcuffed and walk out of that courthouse like my brother was handcuffed, that's when he had no more power. he's not in control anymore. my brother is in control. >> this is a huge day for the world. we're finally able to see. we walked around with our eyes wide shut for a long time. they're starting to open. this will be the first in the future of change.

criminal conviction including chauvin's conviction today. one piece of evidence sealed the case in this trial. >> this officer got a three week trial. because that video had him convicted in the court of public opinion almost a year ago. and certainly the prosecution put on two weeks of evidence to serve cross and dot every t and i in the possible passive defense. but that video really did it all. >> the video of course that we have all seen many times. professor rori little says the prosecution put together a quote perfect case. san francisco mayor london breed announced on getting answers. he she hopes it's a turning point. >> it felt like a weight had been lifted and also very emotional. almost unbelievable that i was hearing what i was hearing because in light of the fact

that we've seen these tragedies play themselves out, all over this country for so many years. one of the first times i really felt there was accountability and there was justice. i'm hopeful that what we have seen happen here today is a wake up call. for us as a country to get right. there should not be one more person, not one more black man who dies at the hands of law enforcement in this country. it has sadly been a pattern. and it's time for real change. >> okay land mayor libby schaff said this in a tweet, today's verdict a just one and also an indictment. the deep racism that leads to the state sponsored murder of black men like george floyd and too many others must end.

in the east bay, oakland officials are prepared for reaction to this verdict. leslie brinkley says the police chief is trying to diffuse concerns about any potential unrest or violence. >> we want to make sure our oakland businesses are taken care of. we can do this in a safe way, okay. >> reporter: before the verdict was announced the police chief went door to door with a message after windows were broken and thieves vandalized businesses last friday. >> i know that we are going experience some more community gatherings. obviously emotions are high because of the chauvin trial i just want to reassure business owners that we're going to be out here in full force to keep everything peaceful. >> reporter: he offered no specifics on what out in force means. the shattered windows represent shattered dreams for some businesses during the pandemic. business owners are doing what they can to protect themselves

just in case. they said business is already slower than usual this week and it could get worse as verdict comes down. >> oakland city councilwoman fortunado called for a meeting to make sure oaklanders can be safe but event unfolded quicker. >> this is a city that appreciates social justice and people exercising their first amendment rights. we pullly support that. but what we don't support is vandalizing and damaging our businesses. >> reporter: some workers appreciateed the personal visit from the police chief. >> it was amazing. we talked about. he was saying not to leave oakland. we need business in here. >> reporter: the hope is businesses will be respected and the community can now heal. in oakland i'm leslie brinkley, nbc 7 news. we will of course continue to follow reaction to this story.

now to the bay area's vaccination effort. supplies are way down. it comes just as the state expanded vaccine eligibility last week to everyone 16 and older. abc 7 news reporter stephanie sierra joins us live with exactly where things stand now, stephanie. >> reporter: vaccine supply has been fluctuating but it's hitting a new low in san francisco. the city is bracing for a 38% drop in doses this week. and the hope is it all turns back around next month. >> as the state rushes to vaccinate millions of newly eligible californians, the supply shortage is getting worse in san francisco. >> we almost received no vaccine this week. >> reporter: jessie cotis is the chief executive. she explains two of the vaccination sites in city college and mission bay only received 500 first doses for

the entire week. that's .1 of their regular supply. >> the last couple of weeks our supplies, forget about the johnson & johnson just if general have dwindled. i believe just looking at the national projections and california we're going to see this for the next few weeks. >> reporter: the city and county of san francisco received 10,000 doses per week. the city's largest dip in supply since the beginning of april. >> hopefully in the next three weeks, i think things will open up a bit. again this is independent of the johnson & johnson pause. >> reporter: abc 7's analysis of newly released data shows san francisco reported the second largest drop a 26% decrease in the number of doses administered over the past two weeks. that's compared too the rest of the bay area. solano county is first, reporting about a 29% drop in doses administered. >> they're prisoners of the supply. they can only give how much

they get to at minister. >> reporter: according to cotas, san francisco isn't receiving as much supply from blue shield due to the large percentage of people already vaccinated. in the meantime the san francisco department of health along with the city and county are working directly with the city government to receive additional doses so sites like city college can reach full capacity. >> a couple of saturdays ago we did 4,000 vaccines in less than 8 hours at our mega site at the city college of san francisco. so we want to get to that point. >> jk: the health department is hoping to have an 85% of the city's population vaccinate with at least one dose by mid- may. currently that percentage is at 64%. then by mid-june, the goal is to have everyone in the city and county fully vaccinated. getting the vaccine just got easier. today the city announced 9 pop
