ended. hos nel voted to lift the pause and then moments ago, federal health officials lifted the pause officially. good evening, i am ana daetz. the vaccination cos resume as early as tomorrow morning. stephanie sierra has opinion following the story and joins us live in the newsroom with more. stef. >> reporter: yes, just within the past hour the cdc and fda approved a recommendation to uphold use of the johnson and johnson vaccine for anyone 18 and older. we know specific warnings to women under age of 50 which was extensively talked about today. but a list of risks with treatment options will be provided to any recipient. the pause on the johnson and johnson vaccine officially lifted friday after a cdc advisory panel decided the benefits far outweigh the risks. the decision comes ten days after reports of a happened

full of severe but rare blood clotting conditions called thrombosed apena syndrome where blood clots form in the legs, lungs or the brain. >> the risk to women is definitely there, but it's extremely low. but there are other vaccines if people feel that's a concern, and certainly for women over 50 the risk is extremely low. >> reporter: the infectious disease specialist believes providing a list of risks to vaccine recipients is sufficient. >> we dealt with it the seam way and that's severe as well. and the risk here is just about the same. >> reporter: of the nearly 8 million johnon and johnson doses administered in the u.s., there have been 15 blood clotting cases identified in women, mainly under the age of 50. only two women were older than 50. of the 15 cases, 12 why linked to cvst indicating blood clots were found in the brain. seven women are still being

hospitalized, and three have died. and initial symptoms noticed within two weeks included chills, fever, nausea, fatigue and abdorm nall pain. with a would you tell women who are hesitant to get vaccinated. >> i would have to think about whether i feel that the risk of having an event which is about 7 per million, is pretty low. >> the vast majority of the public e don't think it will shake their confidence in vaccines. you know, people who are hesitant about vaccines may need to get an explanation from the doctor about what this all means. >> reporter: abc7 analysis of cdc data shows johnson and johnson vaccines only make up 4.4% of the total percentage of doses administered in the bay area. state records show at least 90,000 johnson and johnson doses were paused since around mid-april. and not including any incoming doses expected from the federal government. but until those doses are available. >> the cdc leadership dr.

walensk, and others, will have to confer and sign off on this. >> reporter: and as we mentioned, that has just happened. the real sign of just how crucial this decision was to get the 9 million vaccines available across the u.s. as soon as possible. now speaking of mayor breed tweeted out moments ago that san francisco county is working on plans to get doses back into mass sites across the county. and in the meantime, the state is doing thisth same specifically look at how the appointments will be readd in the my turn site. we will of course be monitoring that closely. stephanie sierra, apc7 news. we reached out to counties around the bay area to see if they are going to resume the johnson and johnson vaccine. several counties all say they will follow state guidance. that means they could start using j&j shots again as soon as this weekend. san matarot county has more than 1200 doses ready to go,

napa county has 400. there was another big development from the cdc you should know about. it is recommending pregnant women get vaccinated. the vaccines are safe for the expecting mother, but the baby as well. today's santa clara county announced that 1 million residents have receive at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine. that's more than 60% of those eligible. overall, nearly 1/3 have been fully vaccinated. finding a vaccine appointment has been a challenge all along, that appears to be changing. at least in some county across the bay area. leslie brinkley looks at supply >>eporter: no le adium in the uty thcoliseum this month. just how hard is it to get a vaccine appointment right now in the bay area? let's give it a try. let's log onto myturn, d fi

an appointment. let's search a walnut creek zip code. their are appointments at oakland coliseum drive through, and when we look at what pops up, there are plenty of appointments for today, and it looks like plenty of appointments for sunday. and on my turn, let's san francisco. and there's moss coney. looks like lots of appointments for next week on wednesday, thursday, and friday. across the bay area, there is still a very limited supply of vaccine in san mateo, marin and san francisco counties in certain locations. sonoma and solana in yellow reported a balance between supply and demand. and contra costa and napa counties have swung into surplus mode. lots of vaccine availability. that . was illustrated at the final day of this vaccine drive through clinic san ramon. >> we have 1600 appointments available yesterday, and 1600 today. as far as registration, we have

received between 5 hundred and 600 registrations for the appointments. >> it's easy. >> reporter: those driving through said they were surprised at how appointments suddenly opened up this week. >> until recently, nothing was available. recently, you know i checked the website and it was available within a couple days. >> reporter: and here you are. >> yeah, here i am. >> reporter: bottom line, keep refreshing, keep checking, and access is changing daily. leslie brinkley, abc7 news. and we are getting a new look at the pandemic's effect on public schools. california lost more than 160,000 students. that's a 2.6% decline melendez showsous which enrollment came from kindergarten down by nearly 61,000 students, a drop of 12%, from the year before. >> it is kind he garden. seems like, you know, given the

circumstances we are living under right now, some families decided to delay pet putting kids in school. >> i decided to keep my 5-year- old in an extra year of preschool instead of sending her to kindergarten. >> reporter: the data collected by the state also showed that the vast majority 88% of this drop came interest kindergarten to 6th grade. among the largest districts and counties in the bay area, san francisco showed the greatest losses. 3.8% followed by santa clara and san mateo counties. oakland unified had minus 1.8%. san francisco unified told us that during the pandemic, some families moved away or some may have chosen other schools. while we do demographic projections to help us plan for predicted enrollment, none of those projections accounted for this pandemic and the many reverberations. last month, abc7 news what conversation with one of its deputies superintendents about

camera. 56 in san jose. believe it or not, it was milder today as we did see more sun except near the coast a parts of the north bay where we are seeing a lot of clouds on live doppler 7. the travel forecast, look at mostly cloydy, light breeze at the local airports, low to mid-60s. and as far as honolulu scattered showers, and rain in chicago, 50 in los angeles, and 69 after some morning fog. this is beautiful or from santa cruise camera it is nice but will be changing. a level one storm is moving in on sunday continuing into monday. widespread rain expected for the second half of the weekend. a slight chance of thunder and if it materializes, maybe hail, higher elevations looking at a half inch to an inch of rain. form morning, a little drill and a sprinkle can't be ruled out. same thing at noon, but it's not a game changer. most of saturday plans are fine. sunday morning, we start to see the rain arriving and spreading
