with kate larson who spoke to a voting member of the cdc committee. >> the cdc and fda say the single shot vaccine must now come with a warning and medical fact sheet about the risk of a rare blood clot disorder identified only in women so far. >> we are seeing what appears to be a higher risk of this complication in women under the age of 50. seems to be different and higher in women in their 30's. >> dr. grace lee voted to lift the ten day pause and use the vaccine in all adults. >> for women under 50 we want them to know the potential risk and that there are other available vaccines. >> it was paused after six women came down with severe blood clots with in two weeks of getting the shot. there are now 15 cases, most with severe clots near

the brain. all of them are women between 18 and 59, three of them have died and seven are still in the hospital. they are out of 8 million who have safely received the vaccine. >> for every one million doses of this vaccine the j and j vaccine could prevent over650 hospitalizations and 12 deaths among women age 18 to 49. >> chief of emergency medicine at zuckerburg general hospital. >> with all this new information how are you incorporating that in the er when it comes to patient care >> we sea patients with things like headaches or chest pain. if they have gotten the vaccine it adds that level of concern but we are already fairly suspicious in those situations any way because there is a relatively higher risk in young women of clots.

particularly on birth control aprils. >> people who experience pain or breathing issues in the weeks after getting a shot should get medical heap right away. kate larson. >> with the lifting of the pause on the vaccine bay area counties are preparing to resume giving the one dose shot. we continue the coverage with how it could impact vaccine hesitation in women. >> after ten days the cdc and the fda gave the johnson and johnson vaccine the green light. with that comes more vaccine supply to the bay area. contra costa has given 14,000 doses and next week they are expecting more. >> the county will give people an option to choose. >> yes. if there is johnson and johnson available there will always be a back up of either pfizer or moderna. >> san francisco's mayor tweeted san francisco is planning to resume the use of the j and j vaccine.

marin said they are waiting on the green light and will resume the use of the vaccine as early as this weekend. doctors say one out of 100,000 can still develop blood clots without the vaccine. >> why is going to be the question that we have to continue to look at. >> stanford she is concerned the pause will impact vaccine hesitation among women. >> by providing this vaccine we are saving thousands of lives that would be lost to coronavirus. >> these two friends are both vaccinated. neither got the johnson and johnson. when we asked if they would opt for this option they had mixed reaction. >> there is this pr. given a choice i would not

prefer it. >> it's a one in a million chance of getting a blood clot which is -- i think is a -- is something that i can risk. >> others got the vaccine two weeks ago. she said they would do it again. >> i would still choose that. i felt fine after it. the j and j vaccine will include a label warning of the rare blood clots. there's was another big development. the cdc is recommending pregnant women get vaccinated. early trials didn't include pregnant women but recent studies found the vaccines were safe and effective for those who are pregnant or nursing. if you or someone you know is a family member of a person who worked for san francisco unified you have priority access to vaccine appointments. matt hainey shared it on twitter and said the city

is reserving the opportunity for family members aged 16 or older. appointments are open for the city college vaccination site. in the south bay the largest county has reached a milestone in the fight against coronavirus. santa clara has given one million doses. nearly a third of the counties eligible population has been vaccinated. still, county officials are reminding the public not to let their guard down. >> the more people that get vaccinated the safer it'll be. the less chance for viral spread, for mutation and variants. the closer we get, the safer we are. >> to help close equity gaps such as east san jose the county said more walk ups will be made available at certain sites starting next week. officials will also focus on expanding weekend and evening time slots. and for the first time since last march the warriors could see and hear real hometown fans at

parkway and brooklyn as well as the baskim community center. a new step in the debate over lowell high school's admissions policy. now taking the fight to court. opponents of the new lottery based plan are now suing the school board. the chronicle reports the lawsuit was filed yesterday. the lottery system opponents say they were blocked from the process with little chance for the public to comment or review. the board decided a need for more diversity when they voted to scrap the merit based admission system. we are getting a new look at the pandemic's effect on public schools. california has lost more than 160,000 students. that is a 2.6% decline that the state calls concerning. which districts suffered the greatest losses. >> welcome back to school. >> much of the decline in the

overall enrollment came from kindergarten down by nearly 61,000 students, a drop of 12% from the year before. >> it's kindergarten. it seems like geffen the circumstances we are living under right now some families decided to delay putting their kids in school. >> i decided to keep my 5-year- old in an extra year of preschool instead of sending her to kindergarten. >> the vast majority, 88% of this drop came from kindergarten to 6th grade. among the largest districts and counties in the bay area, san francisco showed the greatest losses. 3.8% followed by santa clara and san mateo. oakland had 1.8% drop. san francisco said that during the pandemic some families moved or some may have picked other schools. while we do projections to help

month to succeed basara who is the health and human services secretary. and there are new details on the potential cost of building a ballpark at the port of oakland. a's president sent an open letter to oakland city council saying the price tag is $12 billion. the team plans to privately fund $1 billion toward construction. the letter calls on counsel to vote on the howard terminal project. 5:20. >> we had mist and drizzle this morning from the marine layer that is extensive all the way in to the inland valleys. are you not going to see the mist and drizzle likely all over the bay area but there is a chance today out ahead of this system, even a chance of isolated showers as the cold front will move in tomorrow, midday. here is a look at live doppler seven and we have the cloud cover that taller deck of low clouds as that on shore flow increases.

maybe less than that to a half inch in the upper elevations of perhaps the hills. it's not a big weather maker, a big storm but we haven't seen anything in about 35 days. we certainly need it as we go into sunday. you can see the scattered showers, the front pushes through by midafternoon and then you see by sunday night we are dry. rainfall amounts, they are scaling back a little bit. i would say couple hundredths on the peninsula, two tenths to a third of an inch, higher elevations the north bay, hopefully maybe a quarter inch. this will be good to dampen the fuels that have gotten dryer and the snow pack. we need snow. we have a winter storm warning for the west slopes of the sierra nevada. above 4500 feet. even the higher peaks could pick up about a foot or two feet so travel certainly not recommended and as we look at the certain locations here you will notice that kirkwood always

. good morning. thank you for joining us. we will start this half hour with another look at the weather. e. good morning. we are starting out with a lot of cloud cover. with all the cloud cover temperatures are uniform. we will see them break up by the afternoon but overall it's a cloudy day. it's a much cooler day. in fact yesterday we saw a few 70's. today, numbers will stay in the 50's and 60's by 2:00 that on shore flow allowing for the clouds, its breezy winds and by the afternoon, we are staying in the 50's and 60's.

it's a level 1 system and we will track it for you. talk about rain in a few minutes. new details on what happened when police shot a suspect in a hotel parking lot. the department released a detailed video analysis of the moments leading up t shotting. the video start was the suspect leaving the hotel. police say they were waiting outside to arrest him on warrants. mosley apparently sees the officers and makes a run for it. officers released a k9 who you see chasing mosley. fremont officers are not far behind. the video is from five different police body cameras and surveillance. you can see the k9 attacking mosley as officers yell at him to put down his gun. at one point mosley appears to point the gun at the k9. moments later mosley points the gun at them and they

open fire. mosley was declared dead at the scene. in a video statement police chief said the officers were unable to stop the dog from attacking the suspect even after using using commands and a electronic collar. >> we are retraining the dog to be able to recall it from a distance. it's possible that's use of the k9 may have saved officer lives. >> that was dan ashley. the k9 suffered minor injuries from being hit by the suspect. the other officers were not hurt. johnson and johnson's one shot vaccinations could resume as soon as today in some states as we said. this after federal regulators recommended ending the pause saying the benefits ultimately out weigh the risk of blood clots. ty hernandez has the details. >> after a review of the available data the fda and

cdc are lifting the recommended pause on the coronavirus vaccine. >> fighting an urgent need to vaccinate the country quickly the cdc advisory panel is recommending the nation resume injections of the johnson and johnson one shot vaccine with an updated fact sheet warning of the potential for rare but serious blood clots. >> with the actions the administration of johnson and johnson's coronavirus vaccine can resume immediately. >> health officials put a pause on using the vacant receiver after six women came down with severe blood clots. the cdc said there are 15 of these cases. most of them with severe blood clots near the brain. all of them are women between 18 and 59 years, three of them died. seven are still in the hospital. health officials under lined these are out of eight million americans who have gotten the shot with no serious complications. >> remember this is a very

rare complication, a very rare adverse event. >> they say outcomes could be improved if people are aware and seek help right away. meantime fewer americans are getting their coronavirus vaccines. the daily average of shots is now below three million a day for the first time in weeks. scientists have put together this map, the areas in darker blue show where americans are resisting the vaccine the most. the seven day average is now about 62,500. roughly 10% lower than last week. at least seven states have seen increases in new cases over 10%. new this morning less than 24 hours after lifting off a space x crew of four has arrived at the international space station. new video shows them docking the capsule at 2:08 this morning. it's the second time it's arrived at the space station.

48 santa rosa, 50nevado and upper 40's napa, fairfield and the winds will kick up. they are pretty breezy from the sierra nevada and visibility improving five miles along the coast and finally the last stop here you can see how breezy it is in the upper elevations. there's some snow there but snow pack has decreased, really rapidly to about 30%. we had all that warm weather couple weeks ago and really the water content of the snow is not good. cloudy with drizzle and sprinkles possible this morning. wet and breezy for oscar sunday and a little bit of cloud cover and isolated shower into monday but we clear rapidly. the level one system on the way. this is going to bring light to moderate rain for your monday. starting out monday morning the front moves through monday afternoon. from a 10th to two 10sts. perhaps a third to a half inch. here is how it'll play out on
