building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. we have made it. the best of a whole years worth of film front and center tonightcenter t preparation is underway this morning and we are getting you ready for the 93rd annual oscar awards right here and all of the drama and anticipation ahead. here is a live look right now at the dolby theater lit up in la and hollywood and just hours some of the biggest stars will arrive for the 93rd oscars again airing right here in abc 7 mac.

this ceremony will feature something absent from all of the awards shows, and that is a red carpet. good morning and thank you for joining us. attendance will be limited with only 170 people allowed inside. of course, there will be strict covid-19 restrictions. jade hernandez is live with us this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. to inject a a a a ceremony with enough glitz and glamour, the academy has prepared a special kind of offering tonight. >> reporter: the red carpet is ready for tonight's academy awards, but things will look very different this year. gone will be the crowds and throngs of press and the nominees and guests and presenters will be be be be be the oscars safety precautions taking cues from contagion, feature film two of the shows producers worked on. >> three of thththth epidemiologists in the world that worked with us are all working with us to make sure that we can keep everyone was participating safe. >> reporter: the academy changed the rules for

shift from the east around 880 and the san mateo bridge you can see a little bit of sprinkle activity within the next few minutes as well as redwood city and palo alto and woodside has a few sprinkles likely but over and to the east bay it has been quiet but as we put this in motion you can see some green representing some light sprinkles and rain continues to fill in throughout the next few hours and it is a level i system with light to moderate showers and 1/10 to 10th for most and that one third of an inch likely up in the hills of the north or east bay in the mountains. 56 in san jose and 51 in san francisco and a lot of cloud cover and 54 by the delta and finally the golden gate bridge where it looks quiet but we will keep the rain showers in the forecast and a level one system as it continues to sink to the south and east of us in north they will get some sunshine this afternoon while the south bay will stay unsettled and we will talk with the rain amounts and timing in

a few minutes. and now to the new developments in the vaccine watch. a crucial part at this point in the pandemic and taking care of your health as you work to build a better bay area. california has now announced the state will resume administering the johnson & johnson covid vaccine. an independent review panel of four western states say they support lifting the temporary pause on the j&j vaccines. their own review of the single- dose vaccine found it safe and effect for use after the cdc and fda's decision to resume use on on on on on on on governor newsom who himself received the johnson & johnson shot said the state will resume use immediately. bay area counties are gearing up in anticipation of the state's announcement ready to resume giving j&j with a few changes and cornell bernard said even so people are still feeling weary.

>> the administration of the j&j vaccine can resume immediately. >> reporter: the johnson & johnson vaccine is back after an 11 day pause and the fda and cdc said the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks. >> we are confident that it meets the robust standards of safety, effectiveness and quality for medical products used widely. >> reporter: this after cdc committee voted to lift deposit recommend it come with a label noting the risks of rare blood clots and there has been 15 blood clot cases after receiving the one dose shots including three deaths, all women, out of 8 million people. >> we will start using the johnson & johnson vaccine again on monday. >> reporter: he said people getting vaccinated will soon have a choice. >> if you don't want johnson & johnson you will have an alternative to have the pfizer or morgana. >> reporter: he said that is because the county has a surplus of vaccine in the public may be reluctant. this clinic at the richmond veterans hall can soon offer

johnson & johnson. >> i heard a few bad things about it and that pfizer is little bit better. >> i would get it and it is one and i don't have to come back. >> reporter: the city of berkeley along with other counties will resume the use of its modest supply of johnson & johnson is quick the as possible . san mateo county said it has about 1200 doses and will start using them again soon. marin county said it is waiting for new shipments of johnson & johnson. >> we see it as a valuable tool for those higher risk populations where one dose is ideal over that two does regimen. >> yes. i would get it. >> if i had a preference it would not have been the johnson & johnson. >> reporter: napa county said it is not sure when it will receive its next shipment of j&j but meanwhile here officials say next-day and same- day appointments for vaccines are widely available. four people in sonoma county are needing a third

covid vaccine. health officials say nurses discovered some leaking while getting their second shot and we found the problem is with the syringes and need -- needles. >> i sat down and rolled up my sleeve and she put the needle in and she said, oh, after putting the plunger part of the syringe and i said is not good in my mind. >> reporter: michelle is describing a moment she got her second dose of the covid-19 pfizer vaccine at the santa rosa junior college petaluma campus. >> she pulled it out and said only a little bit got in but most of it is staying in the syringe. >> reporter: those from petaluma health center who are in charge of administering the doses say that four individuals dealt with leakage from needles last thursday, and therefore will have to get another dose. the chief medical officer from

the health center said human error is not to blame but rather the syringes and needles supplied by the feds. going on to say the retractable needles with a problem and once they identified the issue, 100 needles were taken out of use and replaced with different ones. as for michelle, she had side effects like chills and a fever a day after the dose, and now doesn't know what to expect the third time but is still happy she has opted to get the vaccine. >> i want to see my family and friends and i want to go out to dinner and i want to sit in a movie house again. just not right now until i get my now third shot, but i want to be able to do that, and if i don't get vaccinated, i won't feel comfortable going and sitting with people who i love and care about. >> reporter: she is scheduled for another shot this coming thursday which is a week from the last one she had and there are some questions still about whether this timeline complies with cdc recommendations and we reached out to petaluma health

on the red carpet oscars 2021 section. let's get a check outside and finally we do see a little bit of rain and it is a good day because people can sit and watch the oscars. the deficit is anywhere from 8 or 9 inches to nearly 30 inches across the bay area so it is certainly not to make any impact at all on the drought, it does help to keep the brush from staying a little bit on the damp side, but then, again, that happens, it really fuel some growth. we are looking at a little bit of scattered activity here with live doppler 7 and the sweep on top of mount st. helena and you see some showers in santa rosa and the front sits right around santa rosa. as we look down further south we noticed the showers are scattered about and as we look across the san mateo bridge in the dumbarton bridge, some light activity further south around palo alto and sunnyvale

and a few sprinkles in light rain showers and then along the santa cruz mountains getting into some activity and the sierra nevada a winter storm warning in effect and we are looking at a little bit of light snow there and putting it into motion you will see that we are getting some shower activity filling in south of the front and the wind will kick up out of the south and then the front sweeps from north to southeast throughout the late morning hours and the early afternoon and we will even get some sun up in the north bay later on today and there is a look at the cloudy city 51 downtown and 54 in oakland 57 in mountain view and 56 in san jose and 50 for you in morgan hill with gray skies here and looking at temperatures in the low to mid 50s from santa rosa and 55 in novato and concord. with that breezy south wind ahead of the front, temperatures won't budge too much but look at what we have in mount rose with gusty wind in excess of 50 mph on the ridge tops and we expect

of snow. scattered showers out there and wet and breezy and then we will have that clearing from the north and a few showers lingering from the peninsula to the south bay and it will be a cold start into monday with a few isolated showers perhaps lingering right before sunrise so today 1/10 to 2/10 for most. we do still have a possibility of a thunderstorm perhaps in napa county this afternoon as the cooler unstable air moves in. you could get a little bit more bonus accumulated rain up in the north bay. there is the front around 10:00 or 11:00 and 1:00 pushing and the east bay and the peninsula and south bay by 3:00. we do have showers in the east and south bay. with the sunshine, we could see a chance of a thunderstorm to the north. there is about 1/10 of an inch in mountain view and less than that in san jose and one quarter of an inch perhaps enrichment and hopefully for tenths up in calistoga. here is the snow through monday morning and very difficult situation there. not advising anybody to drive there. about a foot in kirkwood so that is good for late april and for the rest of the day with

fans, families and friends said goodbye to the late hip- hop artist dmx yesterday whose birth name is earl simmons. a monster truck carrying a casket with long-lived dmx written on the sides played his music and led hundreds of motorcyclists. it started in yonkers and ended up in brooklyn. 2000 people gathered for the memorial service at berkeley center and he will be laid to rest later today after a funeral service. he died earlier this month after suffering a catastrophic cardiac arrest. and more. you will see this man and a cartoon teddy bear suit finishing his 482 mile walk at the golden gate bridge yesterday and he is really jesse lori olson you can see he has a following with them

we see pretty much non-all spring long and winter was not much better. as we look at the live doppler 7 a beautiful site with some green and scattered showers from jenner and west marin in bodega bay and santa rosa and that is where the cold front is and showers offshore and we can move in closer and how about palo alto with 82 and sunnyvale a late shower overthrew fremont and some sprinkles and then down through the santa cruz mountains in davenport and as we widen the view look at that. the whole state it in a little bit of shower activity and snow and level i system today with light rain and about 1/10 of an inch to 210 and then we could get a thunderstorm which could be a possibility later on today in the north bay and maybe one third of an inch and 51 in san francisco with 52 in morgan hill and half moon bay and 57 in mountain view and right now it is quiet here outside of our studios with the south winds keeping it breezy in the 50s today and there is the line of

to some more news. we begin this morning with the new washington post poll showing a lukewarm approval rating for president biden now 100 days into office with 52% of americans approving of the job and the rating shows strong marks on his handling of the pandemic but then lower marks for his handling of the economy and immigration at the border. since 1945 only gerald ford at 48% and donald trump at 42% have had lower ratings 100 days in. this comes as president biden makes history this week and becoming the first president in office to label the massacre of hundreds of thousands of armenians during world war i as a genocide. governor newsom also doing the same and yesterday around the world including celebrities like chloe kardashian and those killed and in san francisco you can see hundreds gathered and laid flowers at the mount davidson cross. for some background starting in 1915, 1 1/2 million armenians

another live look outside at the preparations underway for oscar night and a lot of excitement going on somewhat of a red carpet even though it is not the traditional red carpet. a clinic doing some powerful work in caring for the homeless holding their 45th anniversary gala last night and our friend from abc 7 mornings helped host the virtual fundraiser and there is no shortage of generosity. >> i remember how many nights i have cried and hopelessness and the team are the ones who give
