high school will be getting the shot right on campus. amy hollyfield is joining us live at overfield high school in san jose with details. amy? >> reporter: talk about a push to get teenagers vaccinated, look at this electronic sign telling people it is here at overfelt high school in san jose. they are holding a clinic to really focus and push the 16 and 17-year-olds to get the shot. they really want to turn their attention to th this isthis th. e big questi when will able get the shot. we are waiting to hear. pfizer says they are ready and doctors like what they have seen so far. >> the studies have been really good and we anticipate they

will be the same for children. >> reporter: but right now 16 an 17-year-olds, the youngest people who qualify, are now eligible for the shot at the overfemme clinic today and over the weekend. it opens today at 11:00. officials will hold a press conference to make the push for teenagers to get vaccinated. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you, amy. astrazeneca has a $275 million worth of the covid-19 vaccine already this year that. is without the shot having fda clearance here in astrazeneca released new financial information estimating it delivered around 6 million doses worldwide, most of the vaccines sent to europe. pfizer will start making smaller shipments of its covid- 19 available giving smaller doctor's offices a chance to get the vaccine and make it easier to reach people that have still not getting

vaccinated. studies show getting the coronavirus vaccine from a personal doctor can help relieve hesitancy. the family of man who died after being restrained by alameda police officers taking legal action against the police department. jobina fortson is at a live desk. >> the family of mario gonzalez tells abc news they plan to vioted. i say alcomplied fid r thnt began with 9-1-1 calls about a disorderly incident in the area. when police encountered gonzalez he appeared to be incoherent but not aggressive. when they tried to arrest him

he resisted and then they pinned him to the ground with one officer placing his knee on gonzalez's back. >> he was harmless. he had not threatened anybody. he just wasn't a danger, and they had no right to even try to be handcuffing him anyway. >> three police officers are on administrative leave as the department investigates. the lawyers for the officers say that are heart broken gonzalez died but he was very intoxicated at the time. the alameda city council has scheduled a meeting for may 8 to look at how police respond to mental health calls. julian? >> much more to come, thank you, jobina. police are working to track down a second suspect at a series of smash-and-grab robberies in the bay area. more than 30 robberies are being investigated in san jose, hayward, newark and oakland,

too. police followed victims in shopping center parking lots. smashed windows and took off with the belongings of others. most of the victims are women but we are not sure if race is a motivation for the crimes. and now to the start of the asian-american pacific islanders heritage month. this year the theme is celebrate resilience and uplift voices reflecting the challenging year many americans have faced. >> we know this community has had a really challenging time over the past few months with the xenophobia and discrimination ever since this pandemic began. >> the month-long celebration will include events in-person and online. there will be talks, music performances and other demonstrations highlighting aapi consumer alert and this year there will be gatherings

commute. thank you, mike. all lanes of westbound highway 4 in pittsburg are back open after a shooting caused an accident last night. we are learning the driver of the blue honda accord you see here is expected to survive after being shot at the railroad avenue off-ramp. the victim crashed into one of two hoppers being hauled by a big rig. officials say it was not a random shooting but the victim said he did not know who the suspect was. coming out live at the road conditions, a live look at the san mateo bridge here, traffic is pretty much light around the bay area at the have any crashe blocking issues to report, which is good news if you need to the door ts friday. a live look in walnut creek, 680 looking good and an overall look at the bay area here on the map. some red spots out of tracy but so far it is completely clear this morning. hopefully it stays that way for everybody as you need to leave.

. it is 5:24. here are the "7 things to know" this morning. the man who died under the restraint of police, mario gonzalez's family is planning to file a lawsuit against the police department. three officers are now on paid administrative leave. number two, there is a new push in san jose to get younger residents vaccinated. overfelt high school is holding a vaccine clinic. 16 and 17-year-olds will receive their shots. number three, the ghost ship founder derek almena will be back in court for a restitution hearing. a judge ordered him to pay $81,000 to the victim's families. and number four, today is day two of the nfl draft.

amy, good morning. >> reporter: check out this push to get teenagers vaccinated. a huge electronic sign in front of overfelt high school in san jose letting them know the vaccine is here for them and for them to come and back it. demand has dropped so much as clinics officials are turning to 16 and 17-year-olds making them know they are eligible and doses are available. the big question now is when can 12 to 15-year-olds get vaccinated. pfizer says the vaccine it created is tested and ready and the company has applied for fda approval. experts expect that approval will come in may. doctors say the sooner we can get it to the younger kids the better. one sixth grader we talked to said she is ready. >> at first i didn't want to get it, but if me getting it means i will be able to go back to school, play sports and do things i like, i will get it. >> even before school it will make a big difference this
