strong gusts of wind are sticking around for another day. wind in san francisco caused damage. the wind and low humidity are prompting red flag warning for one bay area county that goes into effect later this morning. good morning. it's sunday, may 2. thank you for joining us. let's get over to meteorologist lisa argen with a look at what we can expect today. yesterday, we had the fog. this morning we are clear, even half moon bay and pacifica. the winds will be a factor again. live doppler 7 showing the lack of the marine stratus. from pier 15, no wind right now. that's in the forecast not only throughout the day but windy in the upper elevations. 49, san jose. 50, half moon bay. a pretty view of the city. 52, by the delta.

upper level winds gusting to 40 miles per hour out of the north. mt. diablo, offshore up to 25 miles per hour. solano county, elevated fire danger for a fire weather watch. closer to home, elevating fire danger due to the warming winds and relative lower humidity and the guys that will be with us today and through the next several days. into the 70s by noon. 80s at 4:00. upper 80s as we get towards afternoon highs which come around 5:00. it will be warmer today for everyone. we will talk about the peak heat that arrives by tuesday in a few minutes. with improving metrics, san francisco is expecting to make it to the least restrictive yellow tier this week. it will give a boost to the economy, something we are focused on in the efforts to build a better bay area.

as abc7 reporter matt boone tells us, comes as we celebrate small business week and the challenge to buy only local products for the month of may. at bookshop west portal these shelves have become an important part of their business model. the owner says some customers are wary of any interactivity. >> a lot of customers have mentioned there waiting for the yellow tier before they actually go out more. >> reporter: that announcement could come next week which also happens to be small business week with events planned throughout the city. >> i hope it will increase foot traffic. our business has been creeping up is more venture out. >> reporter: it's a kickoff of the 30 day small business challenge. >> for the month of may, can you shop and dine using only small businesses. >> reporter: is the president of the san francisco small business commission. he was out earlier with the mayor promoting the challenge which is designed to modify your spending habits for the

month. >> we have become accustomed to ordering from instacart and amazon prime. >> reporter: sent like this underscoring the importance of supporting local businesses during the month of may. as she walked on many streets, lots have not made it. the goal is to save the ones that have come this far. >> we're making communities that are more lively and robust that we want to spend time in. who wants to walk down the street full of empty shops. >> reporter: same for this residence. >> one of the reasons we moved here is we liked there were a lot of local stores. >> reporter: a fragile ecosystem that needs a boost. >> it's important that people get out and shop at the stores or they won't be able to survive. >> san francisco and marin county are on track to advance into the yellow tier unless the county deviate from guidelines, this means there will be increased capacity of up to 50%

with places like gyms, movie theaters, and entertainment centers. the biggest changes will be bars not serving food. they will be allowed to reopen indoors at 25% capacity. the yellow tier status would allow live performance venues to increase their capacity. in east bay, there are plenty of opportunities to get vaccinated this weekend. abc7 was at a clinic in fremont that's a partnership between the fire department and hollers pharmacy. it's open today, appointments are recommended. walk-ins are welcome. organizers say people should have no trouble getting a shot. >> now it's open to the general public and there's so much availability and access. they can go to their local pharmacy and get vaccines pretty regularly. >> if you can't make it this weekend, there are clinics

planned for next weekend. contra costa county has two temporary walk-up vaccine clinics this weekend. one of the pittsburgh youth development center and the other at st. john missionary baptist church. no appointment is needed. the sites are only for eligible county residents and they are open from 9:00 until 4:00 today. if you still need the vaccine, there's a new way to find out where you can get a shot. the white house senior advisor for covid-19 response tweeted you can text your zip code to were 38829. those numbers spell out getvax and you will get a text of the locations where you can get vaccinated. you can had mac to abc7news.com/vaccine. we have an interactive vaccine tracker that shows how many people have gotten the shot where you live. workers across the bay area took to the streets to celebrate international workers day or may day. this year they took a different tone remembering essential workers lost to the pandemic

strongest a winds and san francisco emergency crews on the run is trees blew over and power lines broke loose. a man escaped with his life when a huge pine tree came crashing down. the roots were ripped from the ground at this park near embarcadero. the 90 foot pine toppled over, briefly trapping a man beneath its branches. he managed to crawl out. paramedics took him away but he is expected to be okay. a dangerous scene a few miles south between the 101 and 280 freeways. energized wires broke loose. the street was struck down while the cruise repaired the line. the winds knocked down a 30 foot tall tree in pacific heights. the wind appears to have pulled it up by the roots and tossed it on a car. nobody was in the car. some scary situations and the windy conditions are a good

this afternoon. the offshore winds coming into play elevating fire danger even though it's just solano county that is highlighted and the sacramento valley but we have the dry north winds and where below in terms of fuel, moisture, and drier conditions here. wind gusts 30 to 40 miles per hour and the relative humidity dropping, 9% by about 4:00. it will come down throughout the day and looking at the red flag warning from reading through stockton and modesto. be careful out there. wind gusts very intense along the coast. 10:00 already over 35 miles per hour. yesterday we saw peek wind gusts of 54 and batch. by 5:00, 2030 miles per hour winds. monday is a warm day with 80s and even 90s. we are looking at the breezy winds. they will be on shore closer to

researchers believe they may be on the trail of a drug that can allow the skin to heal without scars. abc7 news reporter has the science behind the discovery. >> reporter: for millions, scars are a fact of life. for more than three decades, stanford researchers have been searching for a way to heal the skin without leaving a mark. first he explains from childhood falls to injuries suffered in prehistoric times, scarring is part of an evolutionary survival system. >> 100,000 years ago if you healed slowly, you got infected. you bled out and were debilitated and then eaten.

americans are optimistic after president biden's first 100 days in office according to a abc news ipsos poll. they found nearly 2/3 of americans are optimistic about the direction of the country. the last time the u.s. came close to that level of optimism about the coming year was in december 2006. only about one quarter of americans think the country has become more united since biden took office. coming up this week after president biden's joint address to congress, white house national security advisor will talk about the biden administration's foreign-policy challenges and the national security focus. you can watch the full interview on this week with george stephanopoulos at 8:00 this morning right here on abc7. the california democratic party is holding his convention this weekend. governor newsom addressed the delegates and the effort to recall him. everything is happening virtually during this conference

city guidelines and social distancing and masks and we started running programs in the park. and within a few weeks we were back to 20 classes. >> we were surprised at how well private lessons worked online. they worked quite well. it will be one of the silver linings at figuring out a way to have expanded our model. >> we are here with little bears class which is the toddler's class. >> it's an introduction of music to kids and their parents and caregivers. >> a lot of parents have gotten in touch with me and said it so important to our life right now. it's the only thing we are doing. >> it's great to give a people of spark of joy in the pandemic. anything to make them happy here. >> i believe we will continue to offer outdoor classes
