nin ntcruz. thk you for joining us. i'm dion lim. we start with developing news tonight and what may be an indication of a severe wild fire season to come. conditions making most of our state a tinderbox tonight. fire crews know our wild fire season outlook is severe. some are getting could be ahead. >> reporter: firefighters working to stop this fast- moving grass fire near travis air force base. the smoke was thick. in fact, you could see it 20 miles away in fairfield. the fire jumped hay road moving west burning about 5 acres. >> the winds always make it challenging. it jumps the roads and jumps the breaks we have that are natural breaks. temperatures, low humidity, and high winds. >> right now the winds are fierce here in vacaville.

it's tough the to stand on this bluff. an even tougher time for firefighters. >> reporter: dry conditions a bad sign. >> it's very concerning. we just want to make sure our residents realize how dry it is this early in the year. >> just nerve wracking experience of having to evacuate. >> reporter: he remembers last summer's complex fire which pre when these hills catch on fire. you know, hopefully we don't see it this year. but i think it might come. >> reporter: in the south bay, this fire was spotted sunday in the santa cruz mountains. cal fire quickly stopped the fire's progress. fire officials are still searching for a cause r this grass fire. in vacaville, abc 7 news. >> so hard to watch. checking in with drew tuma now. what are the areas under the greatest threat? >> we're already seeing fires develop this year. it's coming on the heels of

what was such a lacks luster winter creating some very dry vegetation across much of california. and now you have these wind events that are drying out the vegetation even more. any fires that do start potentially spread really quickly. you look at the winds, they're gusting 20, if not 35 miles per hour. that on shore flow is keeping relative humidity levels pretty decent close to the the coast. those humidity levels drop to very dry numbers. we still have a red flag warning in effect for celano county where cornell was earlier this evening. this is lasting until 5:00 p.m. not only do winds continue tomorrow, even warmer r moves in. >> certainly not helping, but many thanks. to the east bay where wild fire prevention work in oakland will shut down one lane and verse on and off ramps between

high 24 and interstate 580. that work is set to run through friday. crews will be clearing weeds and brush, trimming trees, and picking up litter. we first alerted people about the elevated fire danger with a push alert early this afternoon. you can be among the first to know with the abc 7 bay area app. just enable push alerts to get immediate notifications. a suspected smuggling boat broke apart on a reef sending 30 people into the water. three people drowned and more than two dozen went to the hospital. you're looking at video showing the boat just after it capsized. moments later, it was in shambles. >> there were people in the water drowning, getting sucked out the rip current there. there were people on shore. reports were cpr in progress down below with multiple people injured. >> the conditions were cold and windy at the time with 5-6-foot seas. border patrol doesn't know where that boat had come from,

but it was likely smuggling people into the u.s. illegally. officials say this is the worst tragedy they have responded to in more than 25 years. new developments now in the covid-19 pandemic. the fda may decide to include 12-15 year olds for the pfizer vaccine this week. abc news reporter alex has more on the effort to vaccinate younger americans. >> reporter: according to the cdc, more than 100 million americans are now fully vaccinated. more than 55% of the adult population has had at least one dose of the vaccine. the number of shots going into arms every day is declining. down about 25% from the peak of more than 3.3 million shots a day in mid-april. >> that's your best layer of defense, not only to protect yourself but to protect yourself loved ones, the other household members, and people you're around. >> reporter: for the first time since the pandemic began, patients between 18-64 make up the largest group hospitalized with the virus.

on bringing vaccines to the communities that need them the most. abc 7 news was at the pop-up clinic today at st. john missionary baptist church in richmond. this is the final day this mobile clinic will be at that location. it will be moving on to bay point next. organizers say they have been seeing about 60 people a day. >> we encourage everybody to come down and it's really easy process. there's not even any lines, and you can come in, and people can answer all the questions that you have about the vaccines that they're offering that day and set you up for a second appointment. >> with this mobile clinic, you can choose whether you get vaccinated with pfizer or the single shot from johnson and johnson. in the south bay, a new permanent vaccination site will open tomorrow in south san jose at vta's santa theresa light rail station. it's scheduled for tomorrow morning. the site will have capacity to provide hundreds of covid vaccines a day. we have assembled a vaccine

look at her moving around. the golden gate autobahn society launched a live stream of the birds who made their nest 75 feet aboveground in a an ommissioned world war the ausays number of osprey was dwindling a couple of decades ago, but thanks to environmental protections, they are making a come back. this chick's siblings are expected to hatch within the next couple of days. pandemic experiences have turned into a youth art exhibition in the north bay called rising stars. it features more than 90 different works. since it's based on the pandemic, the show is virtual and has been turned into an online 3d experience. you can take a free walk through the virtual gallery to look at all of the pieces. participants are nominated by art teachers from moren county high schools. that exhibit runs through may 14th. once again, a check of the weather with drew tuma. really, this wind problematic

the last several days. the winds back off as the sun goes down tomorrow morning. it's breezy, but we do expect those winds once again to ramp afternoon. gusting over 30 if not close to 40 miles per hour along the immediate coastline. the wind direction right now, it's pretty key. those winds are coming off the ocean water. what that does, it tends to keep our relative humidity levels higher than opposed to a dry northerly wind. that's why the bay area, much of it is not under a red flag warning. it's a much different story in the central valley. that continues until 5:00 p.m. on tuesday because the winds are coming out of a more northerly direction riding down the mountainside drying out the air, warming up the temperatures in the valley, and really drying out that vegetation a lot quicker than we're seeing in the bay xt coua a. ds wh the rmures takho ross back atemperatures on the mild side for this time of
