on a bridge leaves this suv teetering on the edge, sending an infant into the bay down below. how the baby was saved. and later, a date night like no other. why this couple's love story is a real home run. good monday morning, everyone. we begin with breaking news. severe storms slamming the south. >> and now a major nighttime tornado in mississippi. the city of tupelo apparently took a direct hit. the national weather service calling the situation especially dangerous and life-threatening. >> reporting extensive damage near the elvis presley museum. power lines are down across the roads. the full scale of the damage won't be known until daylight. >> earlier we saw people packing into underground bunkers. another touchdown in mississippi sunday. we will take a closer look at today's weather in just a few

minutes. the other big story this morning, a tragedy at sea. at least four people have died and dozens are hospitalized after their boat capsized off california. the debris now washing onto the beach as authorities reveal who was behind this. >> reporter: the call came in sunday morning. a boat off the san diego coast appeared to be in trouble. >> a report of a 40-foot bound with multiple persons in the water. >> multiple people tossed into the water as their boat flipped over, then broke apart on the rocks. >> this was a mass rescue operation that turned into a mass casualty incident. we had about 30 rescues when the vessel broke up on the reef. >> reporter: nearly 100 first responderse scene. >> plus, a couple of jet skis on search and rescue. % >> reporter: a total of 29 people found, but officials say there was not fhe boat, so they don't know how many people were on board. along one pier, several people could be seen performing chest compressions and administering

oxygen. helicopters rescued some victims from the ppghe in blankets and bringing them to dry land. some think the boat may have come from mexico. >> this was a smuggling vessel, smuggling migrants into the united states illegally. >> we do have the boat captain in custody. he's a bit out of it, but he is -- he is speaking to -- to agents on scene. >> reporter: several of the injured were transported to hospitals for treatment. later some were seen leaving the hospital in the custody of border patrol. investigators are now collecting f e wrkage thash up onshe. latest after 90 immigrants were found packed inside. some with covid-19 symptoms. no arrests were immediately reported, and this past march t horrific suv collision near the mexico border. police saying the back seats had

vaccine. how we have reached a critical stage because demand is down more than 20% in the last few weeks. ike 'goch chi is here with more. >> reporter: there are novel attempts across the country to try to get people vaccinated. this morning, the united states reaching a critical point in the ongoing battle against covid-19. just over 103 million american adults are fully vaccinated. that's a little over 31% of the population. now the u.s. says they will grant emergency authorization to administer the pfizer vaccine to children between the ages of 12 and 15, a dec that could come this week. 12-year-old caleb chung is part of the trials and he says he's excited about what the decision could mean. >> i definitely hope we get back to whatever we would call normal eventually soon. >> reporter: dr. ayman ali telling abc those children will
