on a bridge leaves this suv teetering on the edge, sending an infant into the bay down below. how the baby was saved. and later, a date night like no other. why this couple's love story is a real home run. good monday morning, everyone. we begin with breaking news. severe storms slamming the south. >> and now a major nighttime tornado in mississippi. the city of tupelo apparently took a direct hit. the national weather service calling the situation especially dangerous and life-threatening. >> reporting extensive damage near the elvis presley museum. power lines are down across the roads. the full scale of the damage won't be known until daylight. >> earlier we saw peopleround b. another touchdown in mississippi sunday. we will take a closer look at today's weather in just a few

minutes. the other big story this morning, a tragedy at sea. at least four people have died and dozens are hospitalized after their boat capsized off california. the debris now washing onto the beach as authorities reveal who was behind this. >> reporter: the call came in sunday morning. a boat off the san diego coast appeared to be in trouble. >> a report of a 40-foot bound with multiple persons in the water. >> multiple people tossed into the water as their boat flipped over, then broke apart on the rocks. >> this was a mass rescue operation that turned into a mass casualty incident. we had about 30 rescues when the vessel broke up on the reef. >> reporter: nearly 100 first responders raced to the scene. >> plus, a couple of jet skisal people found, but officials say there was no manifest for the boat, so they don't know how many people were o

oxygen. helicopters rescued some victims from the water, wrapping them in blankets and bringing them to dry land. some think the boat may have come from mexico. >> this was a smuggling vessel, smuggling migrants into the united states illegally. >> we do have the boat captain in custody. he's a bit out of it, but he is -- he is speaking to -- to agents on scene. >> reporter: several of the injured were transported to hospitals for treatment. later some were seen leaving the hospital in the custody of border patrol. investigth of the wreckage that washed up on shore. this tragedy, the latest in a string of human smuggling investigations. the latest after 90 immigrants were found packed inside. some with covid-19 symptoms. no arrests were immediately reported, and this past march 13 people were killed in this horrific suv collision near the mexico border. police saying the back seats had

been removed, and5 migrants were packed inside. officials r coast, and they saw a 92% increase in maritime detensions in the last year. saying good-bye to andrew brown jr. reverend al sharpton will give the eulogy in elizabeth city where there has been protesting attracting people from as far as oregon. in a memorial on sunday, his family renewed their call for transparency. >> the family is heartbroken,n,, angry, distressed, hurt, in disbelief. >> so far, police have released 20 seconds of video of the shooting to brown's family. the d.a. says brown hit the sheriff's deputies with his car, but his family says brown was driving away. children as young as 12 could soon be able to get the

vaccine. how we have reached a critical moreha 20% in the last few n weeks. ike 'goch chi is here with more. >> reporter: there are novel attempts across the country to try to get people vaccinated. this morning, the united states reaching a critical point in the ongoing battle against covid-19. just over 103 million american adults are fully vaccinated. that's a little over 31% of the population. now the u.s. says they will grant emergency authorization to administer the pfizer vaccine to children between the ages of 12 and 15, a decision that could come this week. 12-year-old caleb chung is part of the trials and he says he's excited about what the decision could mean. >> i definitely hope we get back to whatever we would call normal eventually soon. >> reporter: dr. ayman ali be given that where it will be

hanging over a bridge after a crash sunday. the impact sending an infant flying into the water below, but officials say a good samaritan quickly jumped in and safely rescued that child. >> wow. back in this country, a california mother who became famous on social media faces criminal charges after claiming a latino couple tried to kidnap her children. police say she made the whole story up. >> reporter: this morning, a would-be influencer on social media is charged with lying to police after claiming a latino couple tried to kidnap her kids. >> my children were the targets of attempted kidnap. >> reporter: back in december, katie sorensen claimed she was shopping with her 4-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter at a michael's craft store when a man and a woman began following her. >> i heard them talking about the futures of my children, but i was totally paralyzed with fear. i just couldn't bring myself to say anything. >> reporter: she told tv station ktvu the couple waited behind her, followed her to the parking lot, then reached out to grab

her stroller. >> i just yelled for help. i saw these people. they didn't look necessarily clean-cut. i felt uncomfortable around them. >> reporter: police investigating sorensen's claims released the images of this man and woman she accused. that couple identified as say die and eddie martinez were cleared of wrongdoing, and speaking to "good morning america," they say it was clear they were profiled because of their skin. >> she took advantage of that and used it to profile us and used it to gain media followers for her clout, her business, her life. >> reporter: they say they're happy sorensen is being held accountable. >> we're glad justice has been served. >> reporter: she's due in court, and she faces up to a year behind bars if convicted. new details around a serious security breach to queen elizabeth.nce i windsor. the breach comes six days after another woman roamed the same
