eager to get the vaccine but they are not really hesitant eager -- either. there just putting it off until they get around to it. the poll also found that millennial's are more resistant to getting the covid vaccine than other generations. women are more likely to refuse than men. black americans are more reluctant than whites. rural residents are more opposed than urban and suburban dwellers to get vaccinated. santa clara county is trying to boost its numbers. today it opened the doors to a new vaccination site at the santa teresa light rail station. chris has the story now from the bay area's largest city. >> in south san jose, a new approach to bring vaccines to the people. >> i like that there was different spots like to stop and do each step versus all doing it i want so it doesn't get is backed up. >> the valley transportation authority has teamed up with a area community health to convert this part of the parking lot, the light rail station into a covid-19

>> the concern just as california entered its worst fire season ever with six of the most destructive events in state history. cal fire is stepping up early bringing in hundreds of additional firefighters along with 5 new helicopters. officials are urging the public to be vigilant. our meteorologist joins us now life with more on the scope of this red flag >> let's take a look at what it looks like right now from our east bay hills camera. the concern is those gusty winds and those gusty winds are downsloping wins which drought the atmosphere even more. red flag warning until 5 pm tomorrow for solano county. wind gusts 35-40 miles per hour combined with the humidity which is so low in the ongoing drought. any fires that develop will quickly spread. here is a look at the wind gusts. 27 on mount diablo as you take a look at gusts to 21, 12 miles per hour in fairfield. the humidity is really low. we are talking about 10% in places like vacaville and

and effort is underway to keep city college of san francisco from slashing programs and classes d classes s faculty, students and community leaders held a virtual event today. the cuts would devastate the school especially communities of color which they say make up the majority of the student body. organizers want the board of supervisors to pass a funding bill that would provide ccsf with a short-term support he needs to stop these cuts. any parents are coming to terms with the fact that their children may need extra help this summer and next year to make up for learning loss. it will take money, lots of it and time. news reporter liam gives us an update on what san francisco is doing to get students back

track. >> she has two children in san francisco public schools. wanted well with distance learning and the other who is in third grade struggled. >> we have noticed a significant loss when it comes to her reading comprehension. >> enter rise which stands for the recovery with inclusive and successful enrichment, addressing the covid learning loss is just part of what the newly appointed 11 member working group intends to do. in fact -- is one of them. >> all of them have education expertise at 10 of the 11 have particular expertise in remediation, in how you useyou e outside school supplement what is happening in the classroom. >> the working group will meet for the first time on thursday. >> we get to figure out, map out essentially how we are going to be working together. >> they have three months to come up with a plan. parts of it will begin to be implemented on day one of the

abc 7 news. it is a very big week in the bay area for job fairs as we are seeing more and more people start shopping again. retailers are scrambling to hire folks to work. some employers are having a hard time finding applicants which is certainly could be a big challenge for the recovery economy which is part of building a better bay area. news reporter david talked with a recruiter today about how they will fill hundreds of jobs in the bay area. >> the home improvement chain lowe's is searching to fill 350 full and part-time jobs in the bay area and 50,000 across the country. so it is holding an all day job fair tuesday at all of its stores. >> you don't need to fill out an application before hand. you don't need to bring a resume. you don't need to wear suits. just come in. >> rob is hopeful for a good turnout but it is a tight labor markets. restaurants have resorted to offering $500 signing bonuses just to attract dishwashers. applicant sometimes don't even show up up up up

interview. the great mall is holding a job fair all week to fill positions at many of its retail stores and restaurants. however mall management turned down an interview request. retailers are competing for a limited pool of workers, many of them snapped up by amazon which had a half-million employees last year as online shopping group. >> companies have to figure out what are those things that make them different and as that talent pool has shrunk, how do i compete in that talent pool to make sure they're getting the best people that we can. >> the strategy focuses on finding friendly service oriented people first even if they don't have firsthand knowledge about hardware. >> we have a really strong training and develop into program. i can teach youteach youteach ye business and about different screws or different types of tools. >> that approach might appeal to a wider range of potential candidates, maybe even some from the restaurant sector. the promise of higher pay, more hours, benefits and profit- sharing could also be an attraction. david lui, abc 7 news.
