constructions. is shooting near sentences going to national airport is under investigation this morning. investigators say a woman was shot in the leg when someone carjacked her in front of the grand hyatt hotel. that is right at the entrance to the airport terminals. please say it happened just before 8:00 last night. the victim's injuries are described as non-life- threatening. some planes kept their passengers on board as this was all unfolding. this morning, people in san francisco waking up to new guidelines when it comes to mask wearing. the city is following cdc recommendations. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield joining us live on the embarcadero with what you need to know. hi, amy. >> reporter: good morning. we are hearing some relief in out out here among runners at the san francisco city officials have made it a fishbowl and cleared vaccinated people to take off their masks while they are outside getting nerve exercise. the city announcing this week after president biden announced outdoor mask mandate was being dropped. the city's acting health officer said she now welcomes

these commonsense guidelines from the cdc. the city says, vaccinated and nonvaccinated people can work out outdoors without their mask, but nonvaccinated people still need to stay six feet apart. one runner told us this morning, she is excited to finally get this clearance. >> i've tried to stay within local guidance. it's hard come as a runner. it's hard to run with a mouth on. but i've tried to, you know, follow guidance and, you know, provide space where it makes sense. >> now that the city made this announcement yesterday, where are you? >> probably take my mask off when i run. >> reporter: ficials nte masks la gaerings, of people. indoors, the unvaccinated need masks. the vaccinated can take off the masks in small gatherings, especially when they are with other vaccinated people. officials are hoping this will encourage everyone to get

vaccinated. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. 12 to 16-year-old getting vaccinated, once the fda approves it. >> fda extending emergency authorization for fiber pfizer's vaccine to include children as young as 12 years old. kate larsen spoke with bay area families and experts about what's next, when it comes to vaccinating kids. >> reporter: a source tells me, next week, the fda is affected to authorize the use of the pfizer vaccine in 12 to 15-year- olds. a step that brings hope for a safer summer, and school year. but, not everyone is so sure. >> i would lyit out, toe what other people have come unlike any reactions they've been getting. >> reporter: 14-year-old novato resident, nico, does not plan to be the first among his friends to get the vaccine, but he indicated one thing that could push them closer. >> is mask sometimes tend to get annoying.

>> if having the vaccine meant you did not wear your mask as much, would you be more inclined to get it? >> yeah. >> if i was 14, i would get it. >> reporter: nico's father, who is vaccinated himself, would like more information. >> i know at his age group, it's unlikely they even notice the symptoms of covid, so i would like to see what the studies show. >> reporter: david is a stanford project professor of pediatrics. >> do you anticipate there will be changes in the dosing regimen? >> of course. given children size and what we know about potential side effects, that there would be care taken in the clinical trials and dosing regimens, start at lower doses, to make sure that this is as safe as possible. >> reporter: david is also the director of stanford center for biomedical ethics. he says the u.s. should share more with other countries, before vaccinating children. >> even though it's understandable that parents want their kids to be vaccinated as soon as possible, and even though there are significant public health benefits to doing so, given the

crisis in south america, and given the crisis in india, both out of self-interest and humanitarian reasons, we really ought to be focusing more right now on international relief efforts. >> reporter: kate larsen, abc7 news. our report by kaiser health says cvs and walgreens are responsible for most of the wasted vaccine doses here in the u.s. combined, they account for at least 128,000 wasted doses. cvs says most of their doses can be attributed to the effort to vaccinate long-term care facilities. walgreens says the discarded vaccine accounts for less than half of a percent of the total doses it's administered. ac transit has resumed its vaccine shuttle this week, after temporarily deactivating it. the shuttle will run from coliseum bart to the coliseum vaccination site every 15 minutes, between and clock in the morning and 7:00 in the evening. the shuttle will be ceasing operations on sunday.

storms are threatening other parts of the south today. in fact, nearly 60 tornadoes have been reported in several states over the past few days. here is a look at where we expect severe weather today, which will be hail, larger than an inch, and tornadoes are possible from alexandria, louisiana, all the way over to about commas, georgia. so that is quite a population that needs to be repaired. back here at home, nothing that, quite the opposite. low to mid 50s through the tri- valley as you head from walnut creek, lafayette, northwood, mid to upper 50s. 4, northern contra costa county, mid to upper 60s. mid-50s to upper 50s around most of the bay on the 47 at pacifica and 61 in novato right now. another one of our warm spots. temperatures will warm rapidly it today inland and around the bay, 70 to 80 around noon, 77 to 85 at 4:00. when we leave the coast back in the 60s. good news, today all the way through friday, good to moderate air quality, which is healthy for all of us. we will take a look at the

the board of supervisors is set to approve an african-american reparations advisory committee. and over the next two years, this committee will be examining how slavery, segregation, redlining, predatory financial practices, and other issues contributed to the wealth gap and disparities affecting black people in the city. will also explore financial compensation for the descendents of enslaved people. today, that has any say cancel is going to vote on construction of a new landmark, here it is, the breeze renovation. recently won a contest to create a new landmark for the city. the structure will have 500 flexible rods standing 200 feet tall and each rod represents the hundreds of people and companies that make up silicon valley. there's going to be a viewing deck at the top. if this is approved, developers and the city will create a construction timeis california month. today, nonprofit, visit california, will be talking about new projections in data about the recovery of the travel industry. this comes as the tsa screened more than 1.6 million people across the country on sunday. it's not close to pre-pandemic levels, but it is still 10 times higher than travel compared with this time last

mother's day is trending sunny and just a little bit warmer than what we thought yesterday. i will show you that a second. high pressure dominating the eastern pacific, and that's why we've got the warm sunny weather from 80 in sunnyvale, 84 in san jose, to about 80 in morgan hill. on the peninsula, 75 in san bruno, 84. about a 9 degrees bread there. on the coast side, mid to upper 60s and low to mid 70s for downtown south san francisco and sausalito. low to mid 60s north pecos with some of our fastest breezes. as you go into the valleys, about 85 to 89 degrees. so significantly warmer. mid to upper 70s and low 80s, we will say that, for the east bay. and as you head into the valleys, 87 in san ramon to a very warm 93 in brentwood. in fact, very warm to the central valley, low to mid 90s there. that's why we have the fire danger continuing. look at tonight. oh yes, the clouds are back, the temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s and the fire threat will be over. the biggest cooling tomorrow will be the day on the coast, then they will move inland for thursday and friday.

>> thisciate with summer can go forward. >> reporter: florida is a spending all covid related public health orders statewide, effective immediately. today, oklahoma following suit, as the governor is withdrawing the state of emergency, declaring it is time to return to normal. several florida mayors have come out against the governor's decision to spend covid restrictions. st. petersburg mayor telling abc news, he is frustrated, saying, quote, that is it governor doesn't always know what each individual community needs because they are not here, they don't live here. abc7 news, washington. you are more likely to get a rare blood clot from a covid- 19 infection, rather than the johnson & johnson vaccine. this is according to a new report from the american heart association and the american stroke association's stroke council leadership. this looked at symptoms and treatment for those rare blood clots, reported by some people who received the j&j vaccine. experts say the clots are rare in both cases, but the risk is 8 to 10 times higher if you

actually become infected with covid. use of the vaccine in the u.s. has resumed after a brief pause last month. in the south bay, santa clara county has a new approach to get people vaccinated. part of the parking lot at the santa teresa light rail station transformed into a covid-19 vaccination site. san jose city councilmember gimenez calls it a prime location. >> it's a microcosm of the city. it's about one third asian, one third light white, one third latino. so we have challenges, the city at large has been trying to get the word out. >> it was laid out correctly in the parking lot. everybody knew what they were doing. >> no residency requirements. you can walk up or drive through with or without an appointment, and that site is going to be open weekdays through the summer, as long as there is demand. in the east bay, contra costa county said it's vaccine supply is now so plentiful that it's opening up its clinics to

anybody, no matter where they live. officials there say anyone 16 and older can make an appointment or visit a walk-in clinic. you can keep track of california's vaccination progress on our website, abc7news.com/vaccine. it'll show you how we are doing statewide. at this point, more than 60% had at least one shot. you can also break it down by county, to see which percentages are vaccinated where you live. tensions in the republican party seem to be at the breaking point. they are at odds over former president trump's false claim that the election was rigged. in a tweet, wyoming congresswoman liz cheney says the election was not stolen. her vocal criticism of trunk has put many gop leaders in a bind. some of them don't want to fully embrace trumps claims, but they also don't want to publicly criticize him. some house republicans are pushing for another vote come in challenging cheney's leadership. she holds the third highest position among house republicans. trump could be back on facebook and instagram this week. facebook plans to announce its decision about his accounts tomorrow. an oversight board said, there were more than 9000 public

responses concerning trumps suspension from facebook and instagram. his accounts on both lifeforms were indefinitely logged off, the day after the insurrection of the capital. twitter and youtube also suspended his accounts. happening today, more drought restrictions could be announced in north bay. marin county water district is expected to take action after recently approving the first widespread restrictions on water customers, because of worsening drought conditions. officials with the marin municipal water district will be voting on, voting today on imposing more of those restrictions. they include limitingude limitig springer irrigation, to just two days a week. according to our media partner, the marin ij, the proposed new restrictions could take effect immediately. starting this month, two dozen fire stations in alameda county will be hoisting flags during dangerous fire weather conditions. the fire weather flags let people know when there's a red flag warning, so people can avoid activities that could inadvertently start fires, like

the man suspected of assaulting and yelling racial slurs at the president of oakland chinatown chamber of commerce has been charged with a crime. the attack on carl chen happened while he was walking near eighth and broadway last week. police arrested 25-year-old james lee ramsey, shortly after. he has been charged with assault, a hate crime, and a parole violation. in the east bay, hundreds of oakland tech high school students marched in the name of mario gonzalez. a comes two weeks after the man died, after being held down by alameda police. the group walk from the fruitvale bart station, to the alameda police department. he died after several officers pinned him to the ground for more than gonzalez in high school said, watching that body camera footage brought her to tears. >> so many people are affected by the loss of it's rippled throughout the community, and it also ripples
