tornadoes and flash flooding from louisiana to washington, d.c. the same storms produced at least 19 tornadoes including this one in blum, texas, damaging several homes. the south already facing two kardashian outbreaks this month and it's only may 5th. forecasters say more damaging storms likely because may is when severe weather rapidly escalating especially across the plains. 3,000 power outages were reported. a closer look at today's forecast in a few minutes. anger and anguish are growing after the train disaster which left 24 people dead. a subway overpass collapsed. the mayor promising a thorough and independent investigation. protesters are demanding someone take the blame amid accusations of poor construction. abc's marcus moore is there. >> reporter: now they've managed

more targeted approach. zeroing in on areas with high demand and low access and communities reluctant to get the shot. >> we'll have to bring the vaccine to those less eager. >> reporter: right now about 32% of americans are fully vaccinated but demand for the shot is falling. vaccinations dropping to 2.28 million doses a day from a peak of 3 million. dr. anthony fauci telling cnn -- >> as the pool of people who gets unvaccinated is smaller, it gets more difficult. that's the reason why you want to do a modification of strategy. >> reporter: that includes offering incentives to people who get the shot, a chance for a new car in memphis, free beer in new jersey. >> our new shot and a beer program to encourage eligible new jerseyans ages 21 and over to get vaccinated. >> reporter: meantime, more americans could be eligible for the vaccine any day now. the fda expected to soon authorize the pfizer shots for children 12 to 15 years old. >> we need at least 70% of the

population immunized to achieve herd immunity and children in that age group will be an important factor in making sure that they are protected as well as those around them. >> reporter: the drugmaker also hoping to get enough data from its clinical trials by september to request kids as young as 2 to be vaccinated. nathan and his 3-year-old brother are part of a trial in texas. >> i'm very proud of him. >> reporter: 14-year-old aaralyn and her sister ariana will join a different trial excited about doing their part to help fight the pandemic. >> i don't really like shots. they scare me so better to be able to go through it with someone else. >> reporter: dr. anthony fauci said if this is a baseball game we would be at the bottom of the sixth. meaning more than a year later we're two-thirds of the way through the pandemic. mona. >> faith, thank you. former president trump

she's voted out. the electoral board had this warning, quote, purging cheney for honesty would diminish the party. derek chauvin has requested a new trial. as expected the defense listed multiple reasons for throwing out the verdict citing the failure to move the trial and sequestered jury. brandon mitchell is seen wearing a t-shirt with a get your knees off our necks. >> the question now is whether the juror committed misconduct and what we think about here, did the juror lie. did he lie on his written questionnaire or did he lie in conversations with the lawyers when he was questioned in court. >> mitchell insists his decision to convict was based only on the evidence. a big announcement from the nation's largest school system. wl longer

>> is this the -- this like that, was it. >> reporter: anela rezentes' mom was recording her playing in the shallow water at a beach in kailua at oahu when anela saw something slapping in the water hit her. she yelled shark and ran onto the beach. the shark thrashing behind her. >> i did see its fins. >> reporter: anela's mom didn't notice the shark when recording. >> when i was watched the video back i seen the fins. oh, my goodness. she wasn't kidding. it was a shark. >> reporter: appears to be a black tip which feeds on fish in shallow water. it was unlike it was going after anela. they're considered relatively harmless but can mistake people for food. a surfer bitten in new smyrna beach. >> he grabbed my foot and

driver in an armored truck that came under fierce attack. the would-be robbers with ak-47s. they tried to hijack it but it pulled off a daring escape. this morning new details about a brazen attempt to pull off a heist on the highway. the target, this armored truck in south africa. dash camera video shows leo and his partner lou prinsloo transporting high value cargo when they come under attack. prinsloo, a former task force member, reacted immediately by speeding away setting off a violent and wild chase. bullets rained down on the vehicle. the reinforced windows shattered but the rounds did not pierce the interior. at one point prinsloo is seen ramming into the would-be robber's vehicle eventually going on the offensive getting out of the vehicle with a rifle. the suspects took off. the armored truck's door full of bullet holds. but the two guards escaped
