instead, they don't have the requirement that they have to serve food. you can just walk in and get a drink. but bars won't be the only ones having fun. family entertainment centers are now allowed to open up again, so that includes rollerskating rinks, so workers at church of a wheel san francisco told us, they are so excited. they say was starting to feel like the yellow tier would never get here. some bar owners got us and told us they felt the same way. >> we were never mentioned by the mayor, different, you know, entities. it was always about restaurants and anybody else. and maybe a little tougher, maybe. i feel like i'm ready to go and i want to make this work. i want to make this place work more than i ever have. >> reporter: his moment is finally here. some hotels are starting to notice a pickup in business. they said they aren't seeing business travelers coming back, but they are seeing some vacationers starting to come back. the visitors will not be able i come this summer. even though everything is

opening up, those will not open until maybe the fall and the mayor says they were struck down for so long, they have to recertify all of those operators. still a lot to celebrate, including bars opening for our visitors. in this yellow tier,yellow tier, is asking everyone to please get vaccinated, so the city can continue with this progress. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. thank you, amy pick up her newsom won an appeal to one of his challenges to an executive order the pandemic. are public and lawmakers that he acted illegally when laying out procedures or mail-in election. the appeals court ruled newsom's order complied with the law that gives him expanded powers in extreme circumstances. as of yesterday, california's seven day positivity rate increased just slightly to 1.2%, the number of people in the hospital went down. hospitalized patients for covid wind down, but the number of patients in intensive increase. cvs said they are now accepting walk-in patients for covid vaccinations at more than

8300 stores, which includes, more than 1100 locations here in california. no appointment is necessary.is . the mass vaccination site at the oakland coliseum will be closing in about two and half weeks, on may 23rd. appointment there are down from about 4000 a day to just 400 today. health officials plan to switch their focus now to more community-based options. this morning, there is reason to feel optimistic about the progress we are making during this pandemic. top health officials say, thanks to vaccines, california will reach herd immunity by june 15th. telephone your ranks 11th in the u.s. for the percentage of age 16 and older that has received at least one dose. vaccinated people are far less likely to spread covid-19, meaning the virus will struggle to find new hosts, and eventually infections will taper off. that is how herd immunity. ucsf dr. monica gandhi explained that should allow governor newsom the free green light to fully reopen. >> you will have to open up more without masks, and all of

moratorium on the but it is set to expire at the end of june. tenants rights advocates say we could see a massive wave of evictions. >> over 40,000 families here in santa clara county alone would be at high risk of not just facing an eviction, but the potential of homelessness.of hos >> the news, civil liberties alliance, praised the judge's initial decision against the moratorium, saying that housing providers are currently being forced to provide unlimited free housing to their tenants. new data released by mayor london breed's office says the number of house list homeless st people has dropped by 65% in the last year. the mayor's office credits this reduction in tents and encampments to a widespread effort to placements for homeless residents during the pandemic. there were 383 tent count in the city last month and that is a significant decrease in april of 2020, when more than 1100

in the east bay, investigators are working to figure out what sparked this brush fire. it burned 15 acres off yellowstone way in a vacant field. east contra costa fire is telling us that a group of kids was seen running from the area. fireworks were also found. wind did help to dry the flames and state officials are warning california's wildfire system could be extreme this year, mike? i agree with that come after a record-setting year last year, i hope we don't duplicate that. the winds are up again and they will be up for all of us, but this time, they are bringing in humidity. they are kind of of their negative nature by bringing a little bit of humidity. but still, we are in the heightened fire condition and weof the spring, summer, and probably even ramping up more so in the fall when we get those offshore wind events. for now, mostly cloudy conditions along these bay shore, 49 to about 53 is our spread there. most of us in the upper 40s to low 50s. we do have 43 in novato, near

developing news, san jose police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead. you can see bullet holes in the windshield of a car near east santa clara street and south 21st street. a second man was also shot. police say he is expected to survive. investigators have not released any information about a suspect or what led up to the shooting. more than 1.17 million californians have signed a petition to recall california governor gavin newsom. the secretary of state released its final count of verified signatures. people can still withdraw their names, up until june 8th. right now, this total far exceeds the almost 1.5 million signatures needed to put this recall on the ballot. caitlyn jenner gave her first formal interviews and financing her candidacy for the

for the first time, spacex has successfully landed a prototype of a spacecraft that hopes to one day send to the moon and mars. the company completed the test flight in texas yesterday. it was live streamed and the spacecraft went six miles above earth, before landing back upright. space x had previously attempted this with four starship prototypes, but those,

morning. >> good morning, everyone. it is thursday, may 6th. we are starting our 6:30 half hour with a check of the forecast with mike. hi, mike. >> good morning, kumasi, reggie, hi, everybody. let's start talking about how different today is going to be. look at the breeze out there. dirty one miles per hour in fairfield, so the sea breeze is back. and it is going to spread throughout all of our neighborhoods, starting at 11:00. this morning, all the way through about 9:00, and especially fast over bodies of water, and near those bodies of water as we could have gus up to 25 to 30 miles per hour. you can see andrew and it dragged and kicking and screaming, cloud cover all the way over to oakland at 880. look what it does to the temperatures inland. 80s and 90s, mainly 70 today. 60s around the bay and 50s up the coast. we will have the accuweather warm seven-day forecast coming up. first, we did an update on the morning commute. here is francis. mike, it's been this morning, couple of big rig fires and both on fire now. i will get to all of that as well. the biggest problem was less than 580 in the dublin

north beach with the changes. hi, amy. >> reporter: hi, kumasi. ye to celebrate reaching the yellow tier, bars will be reopened. you can head inside. you can raise a glass and toast the city. the mayor says this is worth celebrating. she is calling this an amazing milestone for the city of san francisco, just incredible. it's not just bars that will be celebrating indoor family entertainment centers, like rollerskating rink's canal reopened in the yellow tier. workers at the church of eight wheeled in san francisco said it was starting to feel like the yellow tier would never here. we also checked in with the california academy of sciences to see what this means for them. they said they plan to bring back their weekly event called nightlife. and includes a dj they say it's going to start next week. >> we just felt like it was kind of a perfect time to bring back nightlife. it is a big well ventilated space, and we are taking as many precautions as wewewewe

new data reveals the bay area is amongst the most vaccinated part of california. they've tracked vaccination rates across 1700 zip codes. one of the highest rates is in santa clara county's 94304 zip code, which includes palo alto and los altos. 98.9% of residents there have gotten at least one shot. it's hard to beat that. in the east bay zips code 94707 has a 90.7% vaccination rate. that area extends across two bounties to include north berkeley hills, kensington, allington and richmond. salesforce email mark phineas says employees will start return to the office in less than two weeks, on may 17th. google says, it now expects 20% of its employees will be working from home, after its offices reopen later this year. the other 80% will either be working on site for a few days or weeks, or work from new office locations. google is getting sued for secretly collecting and selling users personal information. the suit is set to be filed today in san jose.

a burlingame based law firm has been tracking the alleged violations for months. a claims google is collecting data and selling it in auctions for advertisements. that's despite google's promise to never sell personal information to third parties. abc seven news has reached out to google for comment. the man accused of stabbing two women in san francisco is expected to be charged as soon as today. one of the victims is 63 years old, the other, 85-year-old chu fong. a gofundme account for her surpassed its $50,000 goal. her grandson did not want to be on camera, but says she was just waiting for a bus on tuesday, when someone stabbed her. >> i was in shock and disbelief. i can't believe this happened to my grandma, right? you don't think this could ever happen to you until it does. that's why it's so important to stay aware that all these things and be vigilant. >> officers arrested 54-year- old patrick thompson. they haven't yet said if there's any evidence that this

our abc7 bay area connected tv app , available wherever you stream. the documentary is a featured video. a bar owner just outside lodi is now under arrest, accused of making and selling fake vaccine cards. undercover agents with the california department of alcoholic beverage control set up a sting operation at the old corner saloon in san joaquin county. for $20, undercover agents bought four counterfeit cards and they seized dozens more. they see the cards look identical to the real thing. they even have the cdc logo, but they found evidence of a secret operation. >> we located 30 blank cards, laminating machines, laminate cutters, things to manufacture the cards. >> bar owner todd anderson faces several felony charges, including identify identity theft and falsifying a medical record. the bartender is being investigated for her alleged role. stayed in there trying to figure out how me fake vaccine cards were made and sold.

to your morning money report, about an hour ago, the u.s. labor department released the latest weekly jobless claims report. now 498,000 new claims were filed last week. this is actually the first time claims have dropped below 500,000 since the pandemic started in march of 2020. it is lower than economists forecast of 538,000. of there are nearly 2.7 million continuing claims, which is a slight increase from the previous week. tomorrow, the labor department will be releasing the latest unemployment rate with the april jobs report. uber thought record demand in the first quarter of 2021. the san frd company says it's food delivery service is continuing to grow, and by march, right hailing demand had reached its highest level in a year. they say demand is increasing faster though than the number of drivers. let's take a live look at the new york stock exchange of trading gets underway this morning. you can see we are up right now yesterday, we told you about
