not 6:00. san francisco released the same person is suspected into unprovoked assaults within two days and is now charged with both. we told you about one attack last friday. a father was waiting to cross the street in mission bay with his one-year-old child when he was knocked to the ground and punched several times. police arrested sidney hammond.

now, they tell us there is evidence hammond attacked a 61- year-old man in the tenderloin the day before running up to him, hitting him in the head and knocking him to the ground. today, he was charged with aggravated assault and with force for that incident. we have developing news now on another crime.ancisco prosec multiple felony accounts included including attempted murders. today we obtained surveillance video of the attack which took place at a bus stop near fourth and market street. the vic's age is 63 and 85 can be seen with their backs to the suspect. he strikes quickly. it is disturbing. i want to warn you. it is infuriating. it walks up to the women, takes out a large knife. he stabs one. then the other and walks away as bystanders step in to help. both victims went to the hospital but fully they are expected to survive. police arrested the suspect patrick thompson an hour later. >> we do, based on our investigation, we believe this attack was totally random.

we have evidence. we have interviewed the person who has been arrested. >> abc 7 news has learned thompson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon in 2017. he faced a 25 year prison term but instead entered a mental health diversion program and the charge was later dismissed. out to an update from the abc7 news i team about two college students from the bay area who received life in prison sentences for the stabbing death of an italian police officer. >> it is bewildering. they gave him and they gave gave a sentence that is befitting a mafia boss who wantonly kills innocent people. how could these two boys possibly be in that same league? >> that is the lawyer for the family of 21-year-old finnegan elder reacting to the verdict . finnegan elder and his friend

both received the harshest sentence for their crimes. on a july night in rome in 2019 they were on a street corner to meet someone associated with a drug dealer. two police officers plainclothes approach. in a struggle, officer mario cerciello rega pinned finnegan elder to the ground and finnegan elder stabbed the officer to death. an appeal is in the works and the finnegan elder attorney is pointing out how different the process is. >> in america the end of the first trial is most of the time the end of the road. in italy it is very different. we are trying to remind him there is a whole another child essentially that will happen at the appellate level. hopefully we will have more sophisticated, more experienced, more reasonable and rational bull judges who will actually do the hard work of trying to make sense of all of this and then fairly apportioned justice. >> today, we received a statement from gabriel from gabe's parents. >> that is on your screen.

accomplish by speaking out. >> outside the high school, a former track star returns to confront her past. >> this is me holding the school accountable in hopes that other kids are not going to have to be put through what i was put through. >> heather hennessy, a 2001 graduate and national track champion who transferred from archbishop midian in san jose her sophomore year claims she was sexually abused by her assistant coach. the former fox sports personality told abc 7 news that the w scolhennessy sd told coach at the time about the alleged abuse but he failed to take action. earlier today, hennessy filed a lawsuit against about schools saying they didn't do enough to protect her. following the announcement a handful of current students who cofounded a sexual assault providers group on campus showed up to lend support. >> it is validating to know that other people saw the issue

stocks closed higher todayhy thanks to things like banks and technology companies. they had a new record high closing at nasdaq up 50 points. the snp added 34 breaking a seven-day losing streak. investors are eagerly anticipating tomorrow's jobs report hoping it shows good news about the pandemic recovery. many office workers were fortunate and kept their jobs and paychecks during the pandemic. that doesn't mean they are happy. many are complaining they are stuck in their jobs. david louis looks into the reasons why workers are unhappy and what they can do about it. >> the past year has left some workers unhappy. they question 5600 employees and executives nationwide.

or a lot of dry chlorine in general. it is very tough right now. >> the reason for the shortage? a plant in louisiana that manufactures more than half of the chlorine tablets in the u.s. was destroyed last summer by a massive fire caused by hurricane. the alternative, using liquid chlorine. even that is in short supply. >> we are going to have to see. they aren't giving us any indication that there is going to be anymore tablets coming in. it is hard to predict. >> keeping polls looking good as this one will likely be more expensive. a cost of a bucket of chlorine tablets can be as much as $90- $100. that is nearly double the cost of last summer. don't be surprised if pool cleaners raise their rates
