slightly humid on-shore breeze. double-digits in many areas that will keep us cool again today with free air conditioning out there, our last refreshing afternoon before the hotter winds kick this tomorrow. 50s along the coast. mid to upper 60s around most of the bay and 70s inland. we will talk more about the heat coming up. back to you. a san jose police officer is hurt after getting hit by a car. this happened around 2:00 this morning near peery lane and southcrest avenue. the officer was on duty and standing outside his marked patrol car at the time. it is said the officer will be okay and suspect is in custody. it is not clear what led up to the crash. the man accused of stabbing two women at a san francisco

bus stop is expected to be in court today and the district attorney has vowed to be at the arraignment to represent the prosecution. amy hollyfield is live outside the hall of justice on the charges that will be filed. the case is really getting lot of national attention. >> reporter: . we have video here to shyou. you may want to look away it is brutal. you can see the randomness. they don't even see him before he attacks. this is on tuesday in san francisco. there are no questions on whether this could have been prevented. the man accused of the crime, patrick thompson, had been charged with assault with a deadly weapon in a separate

case. many are asking why he is out on the streets. >> he just walked up to him but he should not have been out in the first place. the violent criminal did an unprovoked attack and he is free to walk around to do again. guess what he did. >> san francisco district attorney said he will appear at today's arraignment of thompson and he plans to handle the case for the prosecution. the two victims, one woman in her 60s and one in her 80s, are recovering in the hospital. he said he visited their bedsides and their strength and encourage is inspiring. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you, amy. the fbi's increasing effort and resources to combat hate crimes in northern californ ca includes increasing investigative activity,

more cautious as we get into the younger age groups, but the one thing i can say sitting here tonight is that it would be very, very thorough. >> reporter: as for boosters, kessler is collecting data and is expecting decisions to come within months. >> at six months-plus we are seeing some waning of the immune response as you would predict with those over 70, others who are at high risk may need to be boosted first. >> reporter: kessler, dean of ucsf's medical school, said he is proud of all his colleagues and health officials in the bay area who he says have done a remarkable job. i am kate larson, abc7 news. grocery workers in san francisco could be paid an extra $5 an hour in hazard pay for another month. the board of directors is looking into whether to extend the law until june 15.

it would include grocery stores with at least 500 employees to be paid the hazard pay. some have argued against it since san francisco moved into the yellow tier and there is no longer justification for hazard pay. the law went into effect in march and is set to expire on may 19. a 4.7 magnitude quake hit around 9:35 last night a in truckee, a 3.2 quake before that and a 3.1 quake after that. >> my whole house shook. i didn't know what it was at first. i got up, walked into my living room. everyone came into my living room and i said i think it is an earthquake. it came out of nowhere. >> many in the bay area received a my shake app alert. so far no reports of injuries or damage. we get about 10,000 of those a year. light and noticeable shaking.

the energy equivalent is pretty impressive, about 33,000-pounds of explosives. there can be minor damage depending on how strong the ground is around it. if it was on lighter ground like in the bay area it may do a little more damage. here you can see it was felt pretty well. hundreds of miles around from the epicenter. that is probably a pretty big jolt. when was the last time we have had an earthquake in that area? it has been a long, long time. here at mostly cloudy mostly clear conditions. 47 to 50 degrees. a little windchill this morning and temperatures hanging in the mid-40s to mid-50s in just about all our neighborhoods. as far as mt. tam you can see it bouncing there, but these aren't twinds we are worrying about. these are the refreshing, clean air winds with little higher humidity with 50s at the coast, 60s everywhere else. low to mid-70s by 4:00 but grab a coat this evening. we are back in the mid-60s by

was disgruntled about a prior transaction with the bank. a short time later we received a panic alarm indicating that a bank robbery was in process. >> reporter: after more than four hours one hostage was seen leaving the bank with her hands up. bystanders clapped as another hostage walked out, followed by two more. then the dramatic conclusion nine hours after it started. the suspect seen holding the hostage near the bank's entrance. the hostage then leaping out of the door, allowing law enforcement to rush storm the bank. the suspect taken into custody as two fbi agents are seen hugging. there were five hostages, no one was injured. kenneth moton, abc news, new york. an army train' in rain' in

trainee in south carolina is now charged with dozens of crimes after this armed school bus jacking. so, police say this is 23-year- old jovan colaso that held an army-issued rifle to the driver's head. he was only in the army for three weeks and told the driver he wanted to get home. this student on the bus said -- >> i called my dad. i told him i was being held hostage and my mom and dad started freaking out. >> several soldiers over the course of the official stages had that desire, anxiety, and due to separation from their families to get home. we think that was truly his intent. >> a suspect let the driver and the kids off after six minutes. he was taken into custody after abandoning the bus.

the gun was not loaded because new recruits are not allowed to have bullets. in the east bay five people in a senior care facility were able to escape a fire. the contra costa fire department said it started just before 4:00 yesterday afternoon at castle hill wall near 680 and walnut creek. people nearby said they heard explosions. some thought it was an earthquake and others said it sounded like a tree falling on a home. >> i went outside to look and i could hear a woman screaming. >> it sounded like an explosion. we went out and all the people said it sounded like the same thing. >> i live right here. the minute the two big explosions went off, i looked out the window and everything was black. >> flames spread to nearby homes and wind-blown embers made it to a balcony across i- 680. crews were able to quickly put out the small fires. a popular san francisco

council of windsor formally requested grand jury proceedings against mayor domonic foppoli. they are proceedings for willful misconduct of office. he has denied allegations and refused to resign. he did issue a statement about the recall effort against him. it reads in part: this recall effort is being run by a small group of destructive individuals that have wanted to push me out of office since i was first in these unfounded allegations as a means to accomplishing their goal. the u.s. labor department released the jobs report for april, the unemployment rate went up increasing to 6.1% from
