elevations quite gusty and looking at anywhere from 60 miles an hour 2500 feet and down below fair conditions. north bay hills, east bay and the valleys we have some clouds at the coast. 41 there half moon bay and looking at temperatures in the 50's and 60's. 15 degrees warmer by the delta this morning. while it's cooler at the coast. mount di ablo had a past hour wind gust of 54, throughout the day it sunny and it's warmer today. look at that by 4:90's inland. 80's round the bay. we will talk about a slightly cooler mother's day in a few minutes. >> thank you. as lisa just said the east bay hills and valleys are at extreme risk of fire danger and you can see why. bone dry brush everywhere. abc7 news reporter has a look at how fire crews are getting prepared. >> in 2020 the earliest red

residents passed a tax. this fire season. >> we will be using that money to create an emergency warning system. we are using that money to reduce fire fuels and vegetation management to reduce risk. >> the berkeley mayor reminding residents to have an emergency bag ready and for those in the hills to clear the way for fire engines. >> we have to get the community prepared. >> in oakland abc7 news. prima fire will have extra staffing this weekend. yesterday crews drove the access roads in the hills to make sure brush and debris were cleared out. they say residents should clear dry brush around the home but be sure not to mow it because that can spark a fire. >> we are starting fire season early and we have a lot of wind over the next couple days. very important to just bebe >> fremont firefighters also

recently gave th four wheel fire trucks tune ups and conducted refresher wildfire training. we sent this push alert on the abc7 news app just last night when the red flag warning went this to effect for parts of the bay area. if you want alerts like this on weather conditions throughout the weekend the app is free to download. meantime authorities are investigating after a san francisco police officer shot a burglary suspect near oracle park. this happened just before one yesterday afternoon near brannon and third. officers were investigating a car burglary when one of the officers shot a man in the wrist. two other suspects in the car drove away. investigator its have not said what provoked the shooting. and there is a new push this morning to get more americans vaccinated. this after the country's vaccination rate dropped to two million shots a day. that is a 20% decrease from last week. christine sloan has the latest. >> i have a challenge to dc

residents. >> officials resorting to different methods to encourage vaccinations. in dc free temporary tattoos that say vaxed for mom and dad. the director using the holiday to work for vaccines. >> i rest easy knowing my family will be safe and that is the best mother's day gift i could get. >> this vaccination clinic opening in maine. the hope to reach more unvaccinated people and in phoenix, city officials offering a $75 bonus to city workers who get vaccinated. a doctor saying she expects pfizer to get fda authorization for vaccinating 12 to 15-year-old's next week. they are now planning to seek full approval from the fda for its coronavirus vaccine. right now the vaccine is being distributed under an emergency use authorization which is a different regulatory status.

pandemic. officials say that insurance id's or proof of immigration status isn't required. its open from nine to four. appointments are also not needed. san francisco health officials brought their mobile efforts to the city's richmond district yesterday. they say some residents voiced concern over access to the vaccine. the area is home to a large number of seniors and people with disabilities. many of them rely on public transportation which seeing reduced service. >> for folk that want to go to mascony and especially city college it's not easy for them to take public transit. having it centrally located in richmond allows richmond residents to walk here, bike here. >> the clinic included staff who could speak several different languages including mandarin, and russian. bay area counties are gearing up for the

expected authorization next week of the pfizer vaccine for kids. marin officials hope to vaccinate half of the 12 to 15-year-old population with in a week of authorization. that is 7,000 kids. they plan to use evening and weekend hours at vaccine sites and send mobile units to some schools. in the south bay santa clara county officials teaming up with the 49ers to host a three day vaccination clinic at levi stadium for 16 to 19-year-old's. the dates and details there on the screen. families and kids and their family also get to tour part of the stadium and get 49ers swag. sounds like a nice activity. vaccine and swag. for the latest on appointment openings or if you have questions abhijit the process you can ask the abc7 news vaccine team by going to abc7 news.com/vaccine. it is hot this week.

up for his first court appearance. we spoke to the district attorney and also a man who saw this same suspect stab someone else in 2017. it's an interview you will only see here on abc7. >> i saw -- his face and i'm like this is the guy that stabd that other male in 2017. >> benjamin gonzalez recognized patrick thompson's face and body movements the moment he saw this video i on stained showing a man stabbing two senior asian women while they waited at this bus stop on market street. the weapon was so violently thrust into one 85-year-old grandmother that the handle broke off and punctured her lung. benjamin was a security guard at that homeless shelter in 2017 when he thompson after he randomly attacked another man. >> he was just laying on the bed and he came up and stabbed him in the chest. the look on his face was just

unbelievable at that time. it was very calm but very violent. he tried to push him out the window, broke the chain to the window. >> thompson has a long criminal history including multiple assault was a deadly weapon from 2017 and 2019. he was released on mental health diversion in 2020. >> if something could have been done in 2017, maybe he wouldn't be back on the street causing harm to innocent people. >> thompson was scheduled to appear in court but didn't show. i pressed the district attorney on why he didn't do more to keep thompson off the streets. you have blamed the judge for the mental health diversion of mr. thompson in 2020. as the da you and members of your office have every right to object. why did you not object >> he that prevention clearly did not

people on thursday as travel ramps up some pilot who have been furloughed or laid off need to get trained before getting back in the cockpit. south bay flight instructor said that airlines may be forced to stagger bringing pilots back. >> right now we have kind of a glut of pilots who need to come back in and go through the training and you can't bring them back at once because there's not enough simulator time. >> he stressed that flying same he said the number of error that happen is relatively small and there are back in place. changes are coming to the dmv's driver's license test. it plans on eliminating the test in 25 languages and getting it down to seven. the test will be available in english, spanish, chinese, vietnamese and armenian. a memo called it part of an effort to modernize the

process but doesn't go into specifics. it'll increase the number of questions from 18 to 25. it's not clear when all the changes will take effect. eyes will be on the sky this weekend as a piece of space debris comes barreling toward earth. scientist around the world are tracking an out of control chinese rocket that was sent to space last week. space track which is working with the united states space force on tracking the rocket is estimating a reentry between 2:00 p.m. pacific time today and 2:00 a.m. tomorrow. nobody is exactly sure where on earth it'll end up. experts say not to panic. >> so much of what is land is not inhabited. so much of central china and the pacific -- the southwest and canada and the out back of australia. it is true that the chances of getting hit are >> scitistaren the rocket

malfunctioned. the government of china hasn't commented. you may have spotted a strange of lights parading across the sky last night and no, they aren't ufo's. they are starling satellite that were launched by space x this week. our photographer caught a look over san jose. it's a little hard to see but you can see the lights there. the satellite train was visible for just a few minutes as it traveled to the southeast. space x developed to provide high speed internet across the world. nothing to worry about. just a giant space debris barreling toward earth. >> man, nobody knows where but don't worry about it. all right. yeah, ready for hot weather again we certainly have had that -- a piece of that any way. over the past few weeks and right on time for the weekend. we are looking at numbers coming up above average and big dome of high pressure building in. allowithofshore winds. here look at live whe that as it builds in

allowing for the off shore winds and that warming with the dryer air in place. mixing down to the surface eventually. it's other degrees right now in oakland and look at the delta. 64 degrees. we have looking at about 15 degrees of warming there while it's cooler at the coast. half moon bay, 39 degrees. 52 in santa rosa and the wind gusts, 48 miles an hour out of the north. you can see mount saint hele na and mount saint tam. the northerly wind's have been gusting all night long. that warmer air in the delta and the dryer air, 26% relative humidity. for 5:00 in the morning that's very dry as we go through the day. that will drop to about 10% and that's why we have this red flag warning over the hills of the north and east bay and the valleys of our east bay. here say look outside where we are looking at the clear conditions, dry, gusty winds with elevated fire danger through early monday. sunny and warmer for mother's

day weekend. a few degrees cooler for tomorrow and then the real cool pattern arrives the middle of next week into next weekend. here is a look at those winds. they will continue to build through midmorning, after sunrise and as we get toward about 1:00 you can see the wind gust from the delta, napa, livermore, 26 to 37 miles an hour. at the coast it'll be quite gusty. sunny and looking at temperatures for your sunday. 60's, 70's, 80's. just a few 90's but look what happens after mother's day. the heat builds back again into your monday. mid-90s inland. a little warmer around the bay into tuesday, still well above average. remember we should see low 70's in san jose this time of year. upper 80's into tuesday, then looks like we will start to cool off. despite the 60's here it'll feel cooler. the winds will be gusting throughout the afternoon out of the north northwest. about 15 but then we will gust

solutions. this is abc7 news. good morning. thank you again for joining us. a red flag warning is in effect for most ofe bay area. we are going to start this half hour with another look at the weather. >> yes. are you right. remember last weekend it was the sacramento valley in the delta. now today we are talking about the upper elevations of the north bay. the east bay hills and the valleys. highlighted here in red. already, looking at gusty upper elevation winds and we will see them at the surface or feel them later on today. right now it's above a thousand feet. looking at relative humidity at 25% in the hills now to about 10% later on today. here are the affected areas from pleasant on, look at the gusty winds and the wind advisory this is for the delta for vallejo and fairfield. this is all the way through today. that red flag warning goes through monday. these winds will be gusting to
