pretty cool other wise. you can see the humidity is around 20% to 30%. expect all of these conditions to deteriorate as we head throughout the day. look at the temperatures. we have low to mid-90s in the north bay and east bay. mid-to upper 80s in the south bay. low to mid-80s around the bay. 75 in san francisco. we will talk about the cooling trend in the seven-day forecast. we have breaking news on the peninsula now. a stretch of el camino realis closed following a deadly crashed that involved a pedestrian. this happened on el camino real overnight. red wood city police have blocked the road from maple street to roosevelt avenue. we are waiting for more details on what happened here and we will bring them to you. you herd mike mention the high fire danger is near the east bay hills. the heat and dry weather

making a dangerous combination. amy has more on the danger. >> reporter: fire stations like this one will be on high alert today, probably doing some patrolling, just getting out and making sure everything is okay, looking for any issues. the fire danger is high for the east bay hills, the east bay valleys and the north bay mountains. there was a fire over the weekend. it was in benicia, 45 acres burned there. the wind really whipped this one up. a resident said a lawn mower may have sparked it while he was trying to cut the grass and just like that 45 acres burned. firefighters say what is startling this year is how early it is happening. this looks like june. we are in early may. we are already is quite unique. >> reporter: the hope is that these guys and gals can help make a difference in fire prevention. they are working hard right now on bay area hill sides.

month low. here is what health experts are saying about easing restrictions. >> more than 117 million americans are fully vaccinated but the demand for doses has declined. the average daily doses administered as dropped from 3 million a month ago to under 2 million. dr. anthony fauci says as more people get vaccinated, it could be time to relax restrictions more on things like wearing masks indoors. >> the cdc will be updating recommendations and guidelines but yes, we need to start being more liberal as we get more people vaccinateded. >> cdc director rochell zelensky says she expeths to get authorization for teens as young as 12 as early as today. pfizer is planning to apply for full approval of the vaccine. right now they have emergency authorization. it will take months to review the data. education is one of the key pillars of building a better bay

area. now san francisco high school seniors will have the choice to go back to in person classes starting friday. the district will be revealing more details at the board meeting tomorrow. luz pena spoke with the leader of the teachers union to explain. >> reporter: there are less than four weeks left in this school year. starting friday, san francisco high school seniors will be able to go back to in person classes. >> i would hope that high schoolers are feeling valued and heard. we know that connection, social connections with incredibly important. >> reporter: after months of negotiations between the san francisco teachers union and the unified school district, what led to this sudden change for high school seniors? >> educators in san francisco realized there was an opportunity to bring seniors back to school before they graduate. >> why wasn't this decision made earlier? >> it wasn't made earlier it

seemed because we were busy getting all of the other miu's done. it wasn't certain whether it was possible to do it. >> reporter: according to the union, there are close to 4,000 high school seniors in the city. and as of friday 500 said they would be will to go back to classes. parents see this step as a positive one. seniors will only have two weeks left for graduating. the executive director for this parent group said money had to do with it. the return date for seniors is one day before the may 15th deadline needed for the school district to receive a portion of a $2 billion grant in funds for reopening classrooms. >> there are resources available on the table at the state level. given what we know, historic underfunding of public schools in california, we need to be able to make sure we get all of

the available resources. >> reporter: as to graduation, those ceremonies are scheduled outdoors from june 1st through the 3rd. luz pena, abc7. in the south bay, santa clara county officials are teaming up with the 49ers to host a three day vaccination clinic for teens at levi stadium, tomorrow for 16 to 19-year-olds. kids and their families will get to tour part of the stadium and get some 49ers swag. they will talk about the event today at noon at a news conference. governor news m will announce a recovery package today. horis part of the proposal to help working moms. >> for mother's day, we will be making investments to solve

reproblems. >> the governor's office is proposing 100,000 additional child slots, the largest in the state's history. there will be more funding for child care providers and an additional $200 million to support career pacts for home care workers. a news conference on the full economic recovery package is set for 10:00 this. santa rosa congressman jared huffman will lead a drought conference. they will explore solutions and proposals for the water shed. sonoma county declared a local emergency. mandatory water rationing has started in some parts of the county. officials are relying on voluntary conservation measures in other areas. i think you are going to find more and more of these meetings happening as we get deeper into the summer.

the man accused of stabbing two asian seniors in san francisco is expected to appear in court. 54-year-old patrick thompson didn't show for his first court aexperience on friday. he is accused of assault with deadly weapon. the two seniors are recovering in the hospital of serious injuries after being stabbed last week. the sonoma county board of supervisors is expected to pass a resolution tomorrow aimed at helping survivors of sexual harassment. it comes as another woman accuses windsor's mayor of

it is only early may. reporting in berkeley, amy hollyfield, abc7. filling up your car could be more expensive as a major gas pipe line is off line because of a cyberattack. the federal investigation now being led by the fbi's san francisco field office. this is just the most recent attack on a u.s. company. >> reporter: analysts say gas prices could hit a 3 year high today after a cyberattack on the country's largest fuel pipe line. >> it's crucial to have this pipe line in service. if it drags beyond four days, we could see challenges. >> reporter: the pipe line supplies 45% of the fuel to the east coast, 5500 network carries gas, diesel from texas to new jersey. they halted all operations on friday following the attack. smaller terminals of the pipe

officer who rescued a child who was shot in times square. alissa vogel ran to the child and carried her moments after the shooting on saturday. she was among three innocent bystanders who got hurt when a man opened fire during an argument. all of the victims are recovering. officer vogel spoke with abc news about her heroic actions. >> i'm very grateful that people are taking it in that aspect and calling me a hero but every officer on scene is a hero for that day. there were multiple victims andarve wn did a phenomenal job. >> police have identified a person of interest in the shooting and they are using surveillance footage to help track him down. now to an abc news exclusive, we are hearing from the parents of a bay area college student found guilty of murdering an italian police officer in rome. finnegan elder's mom and dad are speaking with gma in their first interview since last week's

verdict. elder and his friend, 20-year-old gabeeral hjorth received life in prison, italy's harshest sentence. they were on the street corner to meet someone associated with a drug dealer. two police officers in plain clothes approached. in a struggle, the officer pinned elder to the ground. elder stabbed the officer to death. >> i understand that a man's life was lost that night. i understand that finnegan should serve some time. i don't like the word punish because it feels too much like revenge which i kind of feel there is a lot of seeking of revenge. i would like finnegan to have some sort of sentence that is proportionate and something that helps at least acknowledges his mental health issues and that is not as punitive. >> an appeal of that verdict is in the works.
