e ng website thatknowledgin it's all about money. the fbi confirms based in russia known as darkside developed ransomware which crippled it for four days. >> we are preparing for multiple possible contingencies and considering what additional steps may be useful to mitigate any potential disrussians to supply. >> reporter: according to reuters, darkside posted a statement monday saying, it never meant to create havoc and our goal is to make money and not create problems for society. the hackers will not say how much they want. according to the pipeline's owner, some manually operated smaller terminals of the line are now up and running again, but the main pipeline is not expected to resume full operations for several more days. the economic consequences already being felt. >> it affects anyone that needs to drive a car to and from work, to and from school, to and from a store to get groceries.

>> reporter: experts say it could extend the recent jump to gas prices already up 6 cents a gallon. a handful like this one in north carolina have run out of fuel. and some drivers are now switching up the routines. >> i usually put in like half a tank just to get back and forth to work. but i'm going to go ahead and put in a full tank and we got our other car up here too. we're going to fill that up too. >> reporter: impacting the airline industry. overnight american airlines said some nonstop flights from charlotte, north carolina, will now make stops to pick up fuel where it is more abundantly available. in the meantime, president biden says he'll speak with russian president vladimir putin about the cyberattack given that the hackers are a russia based group. u.s. intelligence has not yet tied putin's kremlin to the attack, but some analysts say it's important not to rule anything out. kindngs are tied to said these russian intelligence so invean lk for the fingerprints of russian intelligence on this attack. >> the president did not say when he'll speak to putin. the two though will likely be

together at the g7 or nato summits next month. . now to the pandemic and the big news about vaccines for kids. the fda has authorized pfizer's shot for children as young as 12 but many parents are not making an appointment. alex presha is here with more. >> reporter: yes, this is a big step. children as young as 12 could begin getting the vaccine this week. a major relief for many families across the country. the fda has authorized the pfizer vaccine for children ages 12 to 15 after the the company reported it was 100% effective in adolescents and poses no safety concern. >> parents and guardians can rest assured in making our decision the agency undertook a rigorous and thorough review of all available scientific data as we have wtih all the covid-19 vaccine authorizations. >> reporter: kids will get the same two as adults and could get their first shots as soon as this thursday. >> all the vaccine manufacturers

are currently undergoing clinical trials for those as young as 2 years old. i fully expect given what we know about the vaccine in adults and now adolescents that in the coming months the vaccine will be approved for these young children. >> reporter: but there's growing concern about how many parents will get their kids the shot. a recent survey found only 29% of parents of children under age 18 plan to get them vaccinated as soon as the shots become available, and 32% say they would wait to see how the vaccine is working. >> i would tell those parents that are rest tant to talk to their pediatricians and recognize that the reason it took more than five months beyond when the vaccine was approved for adults is that the manufacturers, the scientists and the governmental agencies were really taking a close look and making sure that the vaccine was safe. >> reporter: now, as for adults at least 60% have received at least one dose of the vaccine and right now nationwide we're seeing the fewest number of new covid cases in seven months.

andrew. >> alex presha there in washington, thank you. history has been made in georgia. the state's citizen arrest law passed in 1863 to help capture enslaved people is now off the books. governor brian kemp signed the bill repealing the measure yesterday. he was joined by the mother of ahmaud arbery. three white men are on trial for shooting and killing arbery as he jogged through a neighborhood in georgia last year. a prosecutor initially cited the citizens arrest law to justify the men's actions. the governor says the arbery case forced the state to make this change. >> ahmaud was the victim of a vigilante style of violence that has no place in our country or in our state. today we are replacing a civil war era law ripe for abuse with language that balances the sacred right to self-defense of a person and property with our shared responsibility to root out injustice.arbery's mother s hopes people will now think

before taking matters into their own hands. overseas, tense moments in the strait of hormuz as iranian speedboats came close to several u.s. navy ships. the pentagon says a u.s. coast guard cutter fired 30 warning shots as iranian boats maneuvered at high speeds coming within 300 yards of the navy ships. a similar incident prompted a u.s. warship to fire warning shots in two weeks ago. the violence is not letting up after some of the worst clashes since 2014. israeli officials say at least six people were injured inside an apartment building in southern israel as hamas continued to fire rockets just hours earlier. israel launched air strikes that killed at least 20 palestinians including children. meanwhile, in one of many violent confrontations a car rammed into this crowd of palestinians who were throwing stones at the driver. abc's martha raddatz is monitoring the flare-up. >> reporter: the rocket attacks did continue throughout the

night, and there are fears that the violence will escalate further with prime minister benjamin netanyahu warning that the militants crossed a red line by trying to hit jerusalem and a heavy price will be paid. >> the clashes initially erupted as palestinians protested the eviction of people from their homes. back in this country, california's governor is expanding the state's drought emergency. governor gavin newsom traveled to a reservoir that's less than half full and placed 39 more counties under emergency declarations. despite extremely dry conditions newsom is not yet requiring residents to conserve water. the grim state of the world's coral reefs. researchers say the reefs could stop growing in 80 years if global warning continues at the current rate and calls for major cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. time now for a look at your tuesday weather. a lightning strike in the florida panhandle is blamed for the damage to this truck's windshield.

back now with body camera video of police officers allegedly drag racing in their patrol cars in washington, d.c. driving 50 in a 25 zone totaling a police car. they've now been charged with reckless driving and causing more than $1,000 in property damage. one is behind bars. a man behind bars since 1978 is getting justice 43 years later. prosecutors now say he's been serving time all these years for a crime he did not commit. here's abc's megan tevrizian. >> reporter: this morning, a stunning reversal in a triple murder case from the 1970s. >> yes, i am an innocent man, totally innocent and the state has known it all along. >> reporter: the missouri prosecutor's office that convicted kevin strickland who is now 61 years old is asking for his immediate release. >> today my job is to apologize. >> reporter: the jackson county prosecutor says strickland spent

the last 43 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. >> it is important to recognize when the system has made wrongs. and what we did in this case was wrong. >> reporter: the 1978 murder case in kansas city hinged heavily on testimony from one witness, who initially named strickland then 18 as a suspect. but she later changed her story denying strickland's involvement right up until her death in 2015. >> she was simply mistaken. she tried her best to allow as many people as she could to know about this mistake. >> reporter: that witness emailed the midwest innocence project back in 2009 writing, i was the only witness, and things were not clear back then, but now i know more, and i would like to help this person if i can. strickland is still trying to take it all in. >> to go from as he put it to go from crying out for your innocence for four decades and then final having people believe it is a lot. >> reporter: he told "the kansas city star" he told his daughter

awards again in 2023. we turn now to that tiger possibly on the loose in texas. a suspect is in custody this morning, but many questions remain unanswered. this morning police say the man seen in this video with a bengal tiger is now in custody. >> it's somebody's pet. >> reporter: the tiger was first spotted prowling this west houston neighborhood sunday. neighbors terrified at the sudden appearance of the big cat. >> it's a wild animal. you don't know how it's going to react. >> i thought my dog and i could have been the next snack. this is where we walk every day. this is where lots of children are out playing in the street. >> reporter: an off duty sheriff's deputy spotted the animal and approached with his gun drawn. that's when a man claimed the tiger was his. >> i will. >> i am. >> reporter: police say 26-year-old victor cuevas fled with the tiger as more police arrived. >> there's a brief pursuit and the man got away with the tiger and obviously you see the
