filtering through the coastal valleys. as you can see here, that is starting to move across 280, 101, sfo. that is going to hang around for a couple of hours through the morning. a little bit slower sunshine means milder temperatures, especially in the north bay, 70s and 80s there. just a coupleal of days ago you were in the 90s. near 60 in san francisco, mid-60s in richmond, 81 in free mont. the possibility of upper 80s too near 90 in the valley. no red flag warning. some showers are possible. we will talk about that coming up. back to you. >> thank you, mike. we have breaking news right now, all northbound lanes on 680 in lapida just opened up after a crash. one person and a dog was killed. the dug was in a car and was hit

after escaping after the crash. the driver was taken to the hospital and arrested. it is not clear what caused the crash. we will keep tracking this and bring you updates. happening today, the cdc will vote on whether to recommend pfizer's vaccine for children 12 to 15 years old. it comes two days after the fda extended emergency use authorization. jobina has more from the live desk. >> the cdc advisory panel is meeting and they will see if we can get shots in younger kids. today a look at whether kids can get the vaccine at the same time other pediatricians g super cold freezing and preparing record keeping. childhood vaccinations plunged during the pandemic. doctors say getting kids up to date on all vaccinations including the covid-19 vaccine will be key to keeping americans

healthy. >> getting more of the population is critical in moving forward past the pandemic. >> this afternoon, the cdc will get an update on the rare mrood clotting cases tied to the johnson & johnson vaccine. if the cdc gives the green light to pfizer, 12 to 15-year-olds could start getting shots tomorrow. next month the fda will meet to discuss vaccinating kids under 12. santa clara officials are hoping to entice older teenagers to get vaccinated by giving away free boba tea. it runs from 2:00 to 4:30 this afternoon. levi stadium is a vaccine destination this week. high schoolers 16 and up can get their shots there in exchange for some 49ers swag and gift cards. that includes a bobblehead and $10 gift cards to starbucks and chipotle. >> it is smooth, no waiting

time. i think that it is very convenient, not much of a cost to come here for a few minutes to get the shot. >> the 49ers are also offering a free tour of the lockerroom. the vaccination event continues tonight and tomorrow night from 5:30 to 7:30 and you do not need an appointment. san mateo is now in the yellow tier, joining san francisco. nearly every other county is in the more restrictive orange tear and solano is still stuck in the red. santa clara county could move to yellow next week. this morning we are learning more about the plan to get san francisco high school seniors back in the classroom before the end of the school year. starting on friday, students who choose to return would have three days on campus. the planning and timing has students and parents disappointed. amy hollyfield is live with more

on this. >> reporter: according to the san francisco examiner, the plan was heavily criticized last night at the schoolboard meeting with one parent calling it disgusting and saying the district is obviously doing the least it can, the least amount that can be done. some saying this is an obvious money grab, and wondering if it really shows any care for the kids. the plan is to bring back seniors, starting on friday. that will mean they will be here at the school for about three days in total before the end of school on june 2nd. there will not be any teachers at the schools. the students will watch the teachers on zoom. the district could qualify for $12 million from a state law that was passed to encourage students to come back for in school learning. a sponsor of the bill says he is

shocked that this violates the spirit of the law. the plan was to reopen and stay open. some students who choose to come back, may not even be assignedd to their school. a lowell senior who decides to come back for a few days may be assigned to another school and may not get to come to lowell at all. amy hollyfield, abc7. >> that's really something, thank you. in months, california could end work place social distancing and mask requirements. it is part of newly pr posed work place safety rules the state is considering. this proposal would need to be approved by the occupational safety and standard board. workers will not have to physically distance themselves. facemasks will not be required indoors if everyone around them is fully vaccinated. if you are vaccinated and you are exposed to the virus, don't need to quarantine.

chuck schumer and for republicans, mitch mcconnell and kevin mccarthy. the white house is calling the meeting a chance to find common ground on the issues facing our country. the santa rosa fire department is preparing to declare the start of wildfire season on may 17th, significantly earlier than previous years. it is coming after days of red flag warning conditions in the north bay. the fire department says now is the time for families to make emergency plans. that is really a lot to think about starting so soon. >> it really is. our first red flag warning of the year lasted from friday evening through yesterday afternoon. that was pretty rare. it wasn't even an extreme event yet as far as the winds, humidity, and temperatures. if you think about it santa rosa is down nearly two feet of rain since october 1st when the rain season was supposed to start. we didn't have much of one.

definitely can understand why they are worried up there. temperatures on the east bay show in the upper 40s to low 50s with increasing clouds until 9:00. you can see the fog is spreading across the north bay valleys and on the coast, mid-to upper 40s. mid-50s in the south bay and also in the east bay valley. antioch is 62. here's a look from camera, looking back, that gives you an idea how much cloud cover is out there. temperatures wil be cooler around the coast. i wouldn't call mid-to upper 80s cooler but it will not be as hot, how about that? you have to watch out for the fog. it will be around for the entire commute. it will cover most of the bay, from the bay bridge northward during the commute on the water. if you are worried about the

in stockton, officer jenny inn was responding to a domestic disturbance call and he was shot approaching the front door. another officer nearby shot and killed the suspect. the 30-year-old officer leaves behind a wife and three children. the governor has ordered flags to be flown at half staff. >> and luka ben dety is being called a hero. he was serving a search warrant when they burst apartment door. edward juron opened fired inside. he was found dead with a self inflicted gun wound. >> he will need to help each other through the shock, sadness, and immeasurable grief we are going through at this time. >> the detective leaves behind a wife and two children. a san francisco supervisor has introduced legislation to ban so-called ghost guns.

they are unregistered weapons that can be built at home using parts. they don't have serial numbers so they cannot be traced. police say there has been a big rise in shootings because the weapons are being used more on the streets. the proposal would ban the sale of ghost guns kits and parts, a first of its kind in the state. >> people with mental illness, people who have committed acts of domestic violence, people who are convicted of felonies, they are prohibited from owning firearms. when people make and manufacture their own firearms and they sell them to whoever they want to, these regulations mean nothing. >> chief scott says there is a 27 fold increase in the number of ghost guns police are confiscating in san francisco. california attorney general rob monta is launching a racial justice bureau to tackle social justice issues. this includes recent hate crimes targeting the asian american community. >> it is a top priority. we see the urgency in having a

on espn and on espn plus. this is an interesting situation between oakland a's and major league baseball. they are playing hard ball with the city of oakland. mlb is encouraging the team to move if it can't get a new water front stadium in oakland. the a's say there is no future in the current home. they want a ballpark built downtown at power terminal but they are frustrated over delays. >> because of the timing and the delay and the road blocks, it is just prudent to start looking at other options. we are running out of time. that's the direction of the league. >> it is clearly a tactic to try to pressure people into making decisions before they are ready to make decisions. >> they have asked oakland to vote on the mixed use development of the stadium before their late summer recess. the mayor spokesperson said we share a sense of urgency, the is clear, the only viable path to keeping the a's rooted in

oakland is a ballpark on the water front. we will talk to the mayor today on midday live. the trainer of kentucky derby winner, medina spirit, the horse that failed a drug test is now changing his story. bob baffert says that medina spirit was treated with an antifungal ointment once a day up until the kentucky derby. he found out monday that one of the substances in the ointment is a banned substance that turned up in the drug test. medina spirit will be allowed to race in the preakness along with two other horses that baffert trains. officials insist the horses will be facing more scrutiny. >> additional testing, additional monitoring, a watch list to ensure the integrity of the sport leading up to the race. >> baffert will not be attending preakness because he says he doesn't want to be a

says we already have months of data on how adolescents are reacting to the vaccine. he says there is nothing to worry about. >> naturally, parents will be a little more protective over their kids but this is the exact same vaccine that has been administered to millions of people throughout the world. so yes, the specific age group was small but the sample size related to everyone else is huge. >> dr. patell says the most serious side effects from the vaccine have been six weeks post injection and we are past that with the data. there is a new terminal for sfo as they anticipate busier travel. a rapid test is open in addition to a drive through testing site set up at the longterm parking lot. businesses in san mateo county are reopening in the yellow tier today. it joins san francisco in the

$1.5 billion to clean up roads and public spaces. governor newsom rolled up his sleeves to announce a clean california initiative to create 15,000 new jobs. the goal is to remove 2100 tons of trash over three years. that is three times the size of the rose bowl. the governor has proposed an additional million dollars to hire artists to paint in public places. republicans will vote to remove liz cheney from her spot as on a compete chair. she has been critical of former president trump. she is not going down without a fight. >> she voted to impeach the former president and now just months after the january 6th insurrection, she is likely to be voted out of her leadership spot. she has voted with trump more

than 90% of the time. she faces replacement for continuing to call out trump and says he risks inciting further violence. she addressed republicans in a fiery speech last night. >> i will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president's crusade to under mine our democracy. >> gop leadership has backed a trump endorsed replacement, new york congresswoman elise stefanik. she objected to certifying the presidential results. her confirmation could be delayed by some who think she is not conservative enough. the way we live our lives has changed a lot during the pandemic, the habits that seems to stick around coming up.

but first, checking in with mike. >> thank you. we will start in the north bay with the fog and temperatures in the 40s to around 50. we have temperatures pretty much in the upper 40s to mid-50s everywhere else. 56 in san jose, alameda is 52. brentwood is 56. here is one of the big changes. you can see more clouds and low fog as the sea breeze try to see take over more of the neighborhood's weather. it is not dangerously fast of a cross wind for the bay bridge -- i should say the golden gate bridge commuters. 50s at the coast today with a cloud cover very stubborn, 68 around the bay. it is cooler there at noon but warm inland, 81 and then 87 at 4:00. the bay is in the mid-70s. and back to the 50s and 60s by 7:00. looking at walnut creek, they
