abc7 mornings on thursday, may 14. we have a blanket of clouds thanks to a seabreeze. 33 miles per hour in fairfield. if you look at pier 15, you can see how gray it is over san francisco. the breezes will get faster this afternoon, continuing our trend of cooler than average temperatures along the coast and san francisco. mid to upper 50s. average around the bay, to low 50s. we have a chance for drizzle and even a shower with a potential for thunderstorms across the state and heightened fire danger. the major milestone the return to normalcy from the virus, the president biden and the cdc announcing new mask guidance for vaccinated americans. >> the new guidance says fully vaccinated people can forget about social distancing and ditch their masks in most

indoor and outdoor situations. there are situations where masks are required on buses, plane, trains and hospitals, but in businesses people could take off their masks if local health departments adopt the cdc guidance. the morning on "gma" their doctor says the new guidance is based on science that shows the vaccines are working, but this is just the first step. >> this country is not uniform. there are areas in this country that still have more disease than others. there are areas in the country that have low vaccination rates. we can't treat it necessarily as uniform. a lot of those decisions have to happen as the jurisdictional level. >> you can watch george stephanopoulos' full interview with the doctor on "gma". the number of patients in hospitals nationwide drops to the lowest level since october and the daily average death count is below 600, the lowest

backyard. now more. >> reporter: the 250 to 300- pound black bear perched high in a tree in a backyard that drew a crowd. the central morin police and humane society called in a state wildlife expert. >> we want to make sure the public is safe and care for the bear. >> reporter: after discussion of tranquilizing the bear threw decided to wait it out. they cleared the neighborhood and suggested residents evacuate. i was in one home's backyard when the bear decided to come down, made its way past the police and down the street. the bear made its way from that tree. a few tense minutes here. you can see the police here, the morin humane society. the bear went through this yard and the homeowner says he heard the bear climb his back fence and the police are now saying the bear made its way to the base of the mountain.

bay and the 50s at the coast. for the most part temperatures are below average at the coast to nearly average inland and you can see the clouds will be pretty stubborn along the coast. look at the clouds all the way into walnut creek. that is when you know it will be a cool day when the marine layer makings it into the inland, east bay neighborhoods. a small craft advisory north of the bay bridge to the delta. moderate to high pollen forecasts through the weekend. here is a chance or thunderstorms tomorrow and sunday, to the north and east of us. it is dangerous enough today with thunderstorms way up in the north around mount shasta that a red flag warning has been issued for that area.

in the east bay a man is under arrest after police him s assaulting a 67-year-old asian woman in fremont. this was one of two attacks reported yesterday in that area about a mile apart. the man has been identified as 28-year-old alexander lomax, a homeless man from hayward. fremont police say when officers first got to the home

the woman was still being assaulted. after his arrest police say he was also identified in an incident earlier that morning near fremont boulevard and auto mall parkway. a 57-year-old woman was walking in the area and told investigators she was thrown to the ground while a man attempted to sexual assault her but he was scared off by a bystander. because of this police believe there could be even more victims. >> sexual assaults don't always get reported. we want the public to understand we want to hear from you. we want to make sure this person is held accountable for everything he has done. >> lomax faces elder abuse and sexual assault charges. fbi agents are ramping up efforts to combat hate crimes against the aapi community. eya to come forward, although they know that is easier said than done. they have a social media campaign encouraging people to

east bay shore mid-60s to near 70 degrees in. the east bay valley as few 80s hanging on around fairfield, pittsburg, antioch and brentwood. everybody else in the mid to upper 70s. check out all the green on the map. that is the areas of drizzle possible, especially in our higher elevations. temperatures upper 40s to mid- 50s. along the coast it will remain cloudy and misty. as we head through tomorrow morning there you can see a good amount of drizzle, but watch up to our north. as these areas of showers will be pinwheeling back toward us, that is why we have a stray chance of a shower in the north bay, and possibly east bay and south bay sunday morning and then it is out of here. if we get anything it will be the measurable drizzle that is less than 0.05-inch of rain but it will be nice to have. today temperatures in the 50s, 60s and 70s through wednesday. have a good day. here is reggie.

the mayor of antioch is pushing for gun control legislation after a 12-year-old girl was shot and killed in her home. mayor lamar thorpe discussed the details on abc7 news at 4:00. he says antioch saw a nearly 50% increase in gun homicides between april and december of last year. >> it concerns me while we have been focused on this pandemic related to covid-19, we have ignored the gun pandemic here in california and throughout the country. congress has to act now. >> police have yet to arrest a suspect in the girl's murder on wednesday night. investigators are looking into reports that a man was seen leaving the house after the shooting. in san francisco the police chief bill scott made a rare public apology for a police shooting. police released surveillance video showing what happened last week. it shows officers arrested 23- year-old javier pitman during
