california. hundreds of 12 to 15-year-olds lined up in marin county for a vaccine clinic. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard was there and says the county hopes to meet an ambitious vaccine goal in just one week. >> i'm really impressed with the number of families and kids that are out here getting vaccinated. >> one of them was 14-year-old demsy boon. she just got her first vaccination, along with her 15- year-old brother, elijah. >> excited but nervous. i don't like shots in general. >> for this family, the vaccine means protection and freedom. >> we can do more things. probably travel. i'm not sure if we're ready for that. but we can travel. we can go more places and it'll be easier. >> it'll be great to have the kids back in school with less social distancing in the fall. hopefully they don't have to wear masks all the time in the fall. >> hundreds of kids and parents showed up for this vaccine clinic at middle creek middle school. days after the cdc and the

state gave the okay for 12 to 15-year-olds to get the shot. jake was rolling up his sleeve. but some of his friends are pushing back. >> i mean a lot of my friends are saying how they don't want to get the vaccine because of whatever reason. but i feel fine. yeah. >> i'm really happy. i believe in vaccination. and i think it's good for the whole community. and jake was eager to get it. >> there are roughly 14,012 to 15-year-olds in marin. and the county says the goal is to get at least half of them vaccinated by next week. >> the quicker we can get shot into the arms of all those that are eligible, the faster we can achieve widespread community immunity. >> we're about to have summer break. students will scatter for summer camps, sports camps, all activities. and i think they can do so confidently knowing they're safer. >> online and walk-in appointments were offered here. more school site vaccination

clinics are planned next week. abc 7 news. a vaccination clinic on the peninsula is providing a safe space the children with special needs. today, sequoyah hospital in redwood city set up a sensory- friendly environment for children living with conditions like autism. the clinic allowed them to receive their shots in a calm and private setting. there were no lines or crowds which can be overwhelming. >> can they handle the crowd? can they handle the wait line? is she able to handle the transition. it took that anxiety away so we can focus on getting her vaccinated. >> really nice to see. sequoyah hospital partnered with hope technology school and the bay area christian church to put the clinic on. organizers say they wanted to help parents avoided crowded vaccination sites. now, the state says 15.3 million people are fully vaccinated. and another 4.8 million are partially vaccinated. getting shots into arms, that's

not going to be a problem. california has over a month's supply on doses on hand. a single day case count dropped back under 2000 with 1800 new cases reported today. the seven-day positivity rate remains at 1.1%. and we're waiting for california to release its guidance for masks after the governor said changes were imminent. yesterday he suggested we could see them soon as he presented his budget proposal. but friday came and went with not a word from the state. those changes are in response to the cdc's relaxing requirements for people who are fully vaccinated. the governor said it's a complex issue and the state needs to sort it out. the cdc's new guidance on masks for those who are fully vaccinated is getting mixed reaction. abc news reporter zurin shaw tells us businesses are split on how they'll move forward.gui masks is liberating news for

work on upgrades, including under ground wifi. and the cables are also coming back for those who want to like up half dome at yosemite national park. they officially return this wednesday but permits are required. keep in mind, a limited number are available. and people need to request them two days in advance. the cables allow for hikers to get up the final stretch to the summit without using rock climbing equipment. now to a major turning point in applying for college. the university of california system is dropping sat and act scores from its admissions. the chronicle reports all of it is part of an agreement in a legal settlement with students. those test scores also will no longer impact scholarship decisions. a lawsuit argued low income students of color and those with disabilities were disadvantaged without heavy test prep and tutors. just ahead, taking a stand. multiple rallies held in the bay area as the aapi community

took part. labor groups also held an aapi heritage celebration at frankatk ogawa plaza. congress woman jackie spear spoke to the crowd there. today is unity against hate day. national event organized bicultural and political organizations to speak up against acts of hate on aapi and all communities. on monday, the white house and the walt disney company are cohosting a panel discussion on diversity in hollywood. and aapi representation behind the scenes. i'll be moderating that panel which includes author kevin kwan and the writer director jessica yu jeremy guthrie to name a couple. watch it live on abc news apps wherever you stream. developing news, the white house sent a diplomat to the middle east in an attempt to broker a ceasefire between the israelis and the palestinians. the region is seeing its worst violence in seven years, one

israeli air strike destroyed a building today, it houses the offices of the associated press. israel claims it contained hamas military assets while mean time, hamas continued to fire rockets from gaza. with israel's iron dome intercepting most of them. and in san francisco, activists led a huge march to oppose the israeli attacks in jerusalem and gaza. 3000 to 4000 people marched through the mission district this afternoon. they say they want israeli authorities to stop the forced removal of palestinian residents from their homes. and as you heard, they're calling for a free palestine. >> we are one people. we need to >> the march wound through the mission district and while it was loud. it was also peaceful. from the bay area to the big stage, we'll introduce you

in the north bay they missed out on a graduation ceremony last year but today the class of 2020 got to experience all the pomp and circumstance. sonoma state university graduates walked across stage at an outdoor ceremony to receive their diplomas. their perseverance paid off. last year's ceremony was postponed because of the pandemic and next weekend, the class of 2021 will have their ceremony. congratulations. two young developers in san

francisco are getting some attention on the world stage. college seniors are finalists in microsoft's imagine cup. they moved on after winning the education category for developing remote laboratories that enable students to control lab equipment online. >> we were excited to solve some of the challenges facing education during the time of covid. >> we're just constantly very excited. and we're constantly in this mode of we need to do more. we need to be better and better everyday. >> what great attitudes. microsoft says students from 160 countries registered for the competition. developers from 16 countries made it to the finals. >> it's really about giving everybody across the globe, any student, empowering them to do more with technology. >> microsoft's imagine cup pairs students with mentors from the company. the winner will be announced on may 25th. good luck. all right, turning now to the

weather, drew tuma joining us live from home. and things getting chilly out there. and a little drizzly. >> yeah, you need the layers and the umbrella earlier this morning. that drizzle across the bay shoreline left a couple hundredths of an inch in our buckets. and we'll see that marine layer come back tonight. it's a cloudy start to the day tomorrow again. live doppler right now, we have a couple showers we're tracking in parts of north bay. we're going to zoom on in. this cell that is emitting numerous strikes of lightning. about 27 in the passed 15 minutes. and even a history of a little bit of hail, thankfully, even though it does have lightning with it. it's dropping rainfall as well. this is not a dry lightning threat. and this cell. as we move it into motion over the last 45 minutes, it will move offshore, and that's it when it comes to any sort of wet weather over the next 24 hours. tracking some high elevation snow as well in the sierra. live doppler 7 showing you a
