out there. absolutely. especially in the higher elevations. will be the case for the next several mornings as the seabreeze is going to take any threat of summer heat and fire danger. hopefully that puts you at ease on this monday morning and you can see the gray out there. let me show it to you. you can see a solid set of clouds all the way into our inland east bay neighborhoods where temperatures are pushing into the double, winds are pushing into the double digits right now so that is what is going to keep us in the 60s for the most part around the bay and inland. we have a few 70s like san jose, fairfield, napa. look at these 50s along the coast and into san francisco. we will talk more about this cool weather and the drizzle coming up in just a bit. >> new this se sce of a church concord for the second time in less than a week. firefighters we after midnight. you can see some of the flames inside and the smoke coming from the building. there was a fire last week.

contra costa fire squatter started that when any crawlspace underneath the church. this latest fire was in a different section and there is no word yet on what may have caused its. growing confusion for people after the cdc issued the mask guidelines saying that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear them in most cases. some businesses now lifting mask requirements including costco, walmart, trader joe's but only in places that don't have another mask mandate already in place. in california, we are still waiting for the state to announce that they are going to match the cdc's guidance. now the director of the cdc and doctor anthony fauci are defending the cdc's position. both said people who haven't been fully vaccinated should get there shot asap and keep masks on until they do. >> we are asking people to take their health into their own hands to get vaccinated and if they don't, then they continue to be at risk.

>> if in fact this serves as an incentive for people to get vaccinated, all the better. i hope it does actually. >> more than 200 million americans are not yet fully vaccinated. everyone in california is still required to wear a mask indoors for now because of the state mandate. >> some groups are hoping the state will keep its mask mandate and reject the cdc's guidance. amy holly is live with why the california nurses association is so concerned about this even though those guidelines still require masks to be worn in hospitals. >> they are concerned. they say this is a huge blow to their efforts. many nurses say they remember what these clinics and hospitals looked like at the height of the pandemic and saying they do not want to go through all of that california has not made a decision yet on whether to accept the cdc's new mask guidelines. the nurses are asking the state to reject the cdc's new rule. doctors say the vaccine has the pootusout a mask on, but the nursesunion co

more than 50% of californians have received at least one dose of the vaccine. no word yet on what the state plans to do about the mask mandate and the cdc has not responded to these calls from the nurses union. reporting live in san amy, abc 7 news. starbucks has updated its mask policy. starting today, vaccinated people can visit the copy chain without a face covering but here in the bay area, not so fast. starbucks is saying that masks are still required at locations where local or state regulations require them. as businesses and other entities response to the cdc's mask guidance, we have been updating our website at abc7news.com . we will also update it governor newsom announces how the state is responding to the guidelines. firefighters suspect an arsonist may have ignited it wildfire in southern california. the palisades fire has been burning out of control since friday. at the live desk following the investigation into this fire. >> the los angeles fire

department says one person was detained and then rele yesterday and now a second person is being questioned. more than 1300 acres have burned since the fire started friday night. there is no containment yet. it is burning into panca canyon, two miles from the ocean. the fire is burning for an thick -- thicket but hasn't burned and more than 50 years. >> there is tremendous heat that is preheating due to the slope alignments. that fire is preheating fuel downrange. as a result, they are more receptive to sparks and embers and fire growth downrange. >> at least 1000 residents have been evacuated. the vegetation is dry because of the lack of rainfall and drought. the city of santa rosa will declare today the official start of wildfire wild season. the fire department says it comes earlier than normal because of severe drought conditions. next week fire crews will hold a series of virtual community

the minnesota police officer charged in the death of 20-year-old dante dante dante d to appear in court today. former brooklyn center officer kim potter has pretrial hearing in hennepin county district court. video shows potter shooting right during a traffic stop last month. she could be heard shouting taser before firing her gun multiple times. the former police chief called this an accidental discharge and potter resigned and was charged with second-degree manslaughter. >> in the east bay, a rallies celebrated the video while denouncing hate and violence. police say crimes against this

there are more promising numbers out on how california is doing in the fight against covid-19. the states 70 positive rate keeps falling now down to just 1% which is a new low. more than 34 million vaccine doses have been giving out and more than 15 million californians are now fully vaccinated. >> despite those numbers, some nurses are not happy about the new cdc and mask guidance. if they have it their way, the state won't match it. amy is live for us with arguments. >> good morning. nurses say this pandemic is not over. they believe this would put them and their patients here at clinics and hospitals, , put them at risk, put them in danger so the nurses union is now saying they don't think the cdc's decision to let the mask mandate for vaccinated people, they don't think it is based on science. there asking the state of california to keep the mask a rule in place. doctors say the vaccine is enough to protect us without a

mask with the nurses union is concerned about variance of the virus that not enough people are vaccinated and that people don't get tested after they have been vaccinated. nurses say this is a huge blow to their efforts, they do not want to go through all of this again. >> we are going to be there for our patients. we always have been but it was really a challenge caring for so many patients that were so sick with the covid virus and having zero capacity sometimes in our hospitals. we don't want to go through that again. >> we have a good idea now not just in a clinical trial but in the field what the protection is of this vaccine, and it is amazing, really 94%, even with healthcare workers getting exposed to this in >> the cdc says the vaccine is about 100% effective at preventing hospitalization and death. more than 50% of californians

have received at least one dose of the vaccine but the union says it is outraged that the cdc has relaxed of the mask mandate in the midst of this pandemic and they want california to keep it in place. the cdc has not yet responded to what the union is saying. reporting live in sin remain -- san ramon, amy. target has just announced it is no longer requiring customers or employees to wear masks if they are fully vaccinated. like all the other businesses that are adjusting their policies, this only applies in places where there aren't mask mandates. target says it is still strongly recommending masks a for everyone. this morning, the cdc says masks should stay on for kids at school at least for the rest of the school year. reasons that most younger children are most vaccinated and may not be eligible until fall. the cdc says children who get infected tend to have less severe cases of covid-19 but
