mandate in place until june 15th. that's when the state plans to do away with the tier system and fully reopen the economy. good evening thank you for joining us i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. you're watching eyewitness news at 11:00, hulu and where are you stream your news. the mask guidelines can be confusing for people. >> just wear a mask. >> i think it would be refreshing and nice to see everybody's faces and smiles. >> reporter: yes the opinion of wearing a mask or not wearing a mask are extensive but monday the state of california announced they will follow the cdc by easing mask guidelines but not until june 15th. >> customer service you have to make sure that everybody is comfortable. >> reporter: restaurant owners like brian mitchell of san francisco's westwood bar and wilder restaurant say it's a challenge but as the rules change, you have to make sure your customers are okay

that. at sushi confidential, owner randy muster says guidelines could be a problem. >> the biggest concern tat moment is what the cdc said and now the states not following that. now trying to manage what a lot of our customers might be you know trying to follow cdc guidelines instead of the state and county guidelines. >> reporter: the biggest difference here is the cdc says vaccinated individuals don't have to wear a mask in most indoor situations and the state says they still do up until that june date. ucsf dr. monica gandhi says the cautious mask guidelines approached by california is warranted. >> you have a lot of concerns over the weekend from businesses i think they said let's give a little bit of time. we were going to open june 15th let's make it that day. >> reporter: ask californian what is they want and you will get all sorts of opinions. >> it has to start some where. i mean we can't just wear these

for the rest of our lives. >> covid is a real thing. it could still come back around. i think we should all stay safe and wear a mask. even if you're vaccinated it's still proven you can catch covid. >> reporter: they will spend two weeks to decide how to implement the new guide lightbulbs and guidelines and show that people still need to show proof of vaccination. dr. mark galley heads health and human services in california. he says using their masks. 23 states including california still have some type of statewide mask rules. 18 states that had mask ordering covering the general public have fully lifted them now. and 11 states did not impose

mask mandates at any point during the pandemic. >> the covid crisis has focused attention on medical care here in the bay area. it's also highlighted the need for mental health services. as we move through new phases of the crisis, abc 7 news reporter kate larson discovered those services could be just as important as ever. >> reporter: after a year of covid isolation, many american k-s be forgiven if they're feeling a sense of emotional whiplash, americans can be given if they're feeling a sense of emotional whiplash. the first was this will never end. clinical psychologists jonathan horowitz is the finder of san francisco stress and anxiety center. >> to be in this situation where people were required to step back from their social life and from employment and things like that. i mean people were really at risk for mental health illnesses. >> reporter: families and children also felt the stress of distance learning and

disruptive routines. referrals for residential treatment jumped significantly. >> kid who were really suffering are kids who were extremely isolated, no sports, no activities, no peers. >> but now the emotional pendulum may be swinging again. they're now facing a new and different kind of anxiety. >> they've missed a year of social connection so there's a lot of question about where do i fit in. who's my peer group. how do i connect with these kids i haven't seen in over a year. >> we're trying to navigate back, getting back into the office and it's like where are we with regards to the rules. >> reporter: they say therapists can help clients transition in a number of ways. it's important to reestablish a routine whether it's school or work and getting used to the familiar rhythm. it may also help to limit personal expectations for how quickly things will seem familiar again. >> this is something it's okay

to feel this way. you can feel a little unsettled. >> reporter: there were also increasing variety of therapy options. online and in person visits. many have affordable plans to help patients navigate a difficult thread. >> they want to come and go with therapy as needed. sometimes a few times a week is enough for them. it's a touch stone, it's a place to go and say gosh i don't know what to do. >> reporter: and perhaps gain critical health on back to post-covid normal. it's an abc 7 listens bay area conversation your mental health thursday at 8:00 p.m. the san jose convention center will soon open its door

temperatures mainly in the 30s and 40s. we do have a nice breeze blowing. some morning fog and drizzle. followed by sunshine and milder weather tomorrow and a warmer pattern is setting up for the upcoming weekend. how hour by hour we go. you're going to see spotty drizzle especially over some of the higher terrain as we head into 5:00 a.m. the fog and low clouds will really peel away quickly in the afternoon as the wind pick up. temperatures in the morning, 40s, 50s you will want to grab that extra layer as you go. watch out as some of those spots around the road will be slippery because of the drizzle. mid-50s to low 80s warmer than today. today temperatures were a good 4 to 8 degrees below average than they were. 56 half-moon bay. 71 san rafael. upper 70s from santa rosa to

vallejo to concord. 82 degrees in fairfield. i want to show you what's going to happen with those winds. tomorrow morning it's breezy near the coast. winds picking up as we head into the afternoon and evening 35, 40-miles-an-hour. we then go into wednesday. this is when the strongest winds are expected coast side we're looking at 45 possibly 50- mile an hour wind. i wouldn't be surprised if they issued a wind advisory for this time period. so stay tuned. temperatures are going down as the winds pick up on wednesday mid-50s to upper 70s. as we head inthursday. only in the mid-70s for our warmest spots. all in association with the low pressure system. yes that's going to bring snow to the sierra as we head into thursday, friday, saturday. for us unfortunately other than a little drizzle from time to time we're not expecting any rain. accu weather 7 day forecast. looking at a windy pattern the next several days. temperatures still below average. the gustiest period will be tomorrow through thursday. then we warm it up for the weekend as the winds relax.
