expect our north, northwest winds, 25 miles per hour, gusting up to 50. that is why there could be potential damage. lock everything down. here's a look at the satellite. you can see a few clouds hanging along the peninsula coast. that's about it. in fact, it'll be pretty sunny everywhere, and the warmest temperatures get back closer to average. 60s around the bay, 70s inland. extreme is 56 and half moon bay, low 80s around antioch and fairfield. we will talk about those winds more coming up, reggie? mike, thank you. developing news in oakland after gunfire broke out on a party bus. jobina is tracking the investigation of the live desk. thank you, reggie. multiple people were shot on a party bus just after midnight. a reporter from our media partner, the spain times is reporting one of the people shot is now dead. the victim is reportedly a young woman from stock in. video shows the bus outside the oakland police eastmont substation, riddled with bullets, with shattered windows. there are reports this bus was transporting a group for a 21st birthday party when the shots t

california made this announcement. they were happy about it. of california will take four more weeks to get ready, before lifting the mask mandate. officials say, they want to gi more time to get ready for the change, and they want people who have not been vaccinated yet to take this time to get it done. we heard from health officials from marin to san francisco who said, this is a good idea. >> i'm relieved that the state has recognized that. we in marin county have some of the highest vaccination rates in the state. we, ourselves, don't feel ready. >> reporter: counties cannot ignore the states the guidelines, so the masks will stay in california indoors until june 15th. that is the date the governor has set for reopening the states, and that includes taking off the masks indoors. until then, county officials say they are going to use this time to change their strategy. they are going to do more outreach, to try and get people

vaccinated. live in the east bay, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. thank you, amy. california is more 23 states that still have some type of statewide mask rules. 18 states that had mask orders covering the general public have fully lifted them at 11 states didn't impose mask mandate at any point during the pandemic. vaccine clinics will begin opening at contra costa county schools today. this is an effort to increase vaccinations among students, now that ability has expanded. antioch middle school and concord high school will host free clinics starting this morning. they will be open from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm until saturday. next week, sites will open up an old valley hi, pittsburg high, ignacio valley hi, concord, edna hill middle and concord. they can go to the sites. selfie is taking a big step toward post pandemic normalcy. they are opening the san jose convention center in august for silicon. pandemic, pop culture and tech imagine would draw tens of thousands of people every year. this time though, it is going

we are really holding our breath, entering fire season once again this year. it's not just the record dry brush the fires are worried about, but now burn scar areas as well. depressed sites one democrat chief, one has enoughhas enoughh vegetation to burn again. we just saw one tree in the sequoia national park this month, still smoldering from last year's castle fire. in the past five years, there's been 1.5 million acres burned in sonoma county, more than double its entire land area. i've got to tell you, april, we had those record dry fuels, but the drizzle we have been talking about, i know it doesn't seem like it helps her add up to much, but it's actually raised the level just a little bit, of the

happening now, jury selection underway in the murder of an iowa college student. 20-year-old molly tibbetts was attacked while out for an evening dog in 2018. tibbetts started kena vernon east bay, in piedmont. the family moved to iowa when she was midway through elementary school. christian bahena rivera is charged with her murder, the prosecutor warned prospective jurors yesterday, some of the evidence to be presentedbe presd be hard to stomach. opening arguments will start tomorrow. a 42-year-old man accused of being unruly on a flight to san francisco has been arrested. passengers say he was snorting a white substance, has touched a female passenger and refused to wear a mask on the flight sunday. the plaintiff off from jfk in new york, where police say that's where the man is from. it had to be diverted to

minneapolis, where he was eventually removed from the flight. minneapolis airport police say the man has not yet been officially charged. if you've ever felt the stress of weighing your bag, your checked bag at the airport, imagine having to weigh yourself for you get on a flight. the faa is currently reviewing a new weight and balance program, to make sure that smaller planes are safely balanced. the concern is that americans are getting heavier. but the faa and the airlines have not updated their estimated weight attribution. so now they are considering asking passengers for their weight, or having a scale right there at the gate. offering information will be entirely voluntary. but if you decline, they could ask another passenger. new developments, city college of san francisco will no longer pay its interim chancellor a $20,000 bonus. proposal came out days after the faculty union agreed to take pay cuts to avoid layoffs. the chancellor, who has been in charge of fixing the school

debt, would have received a 23.5% monthly bonus on top of his regular $340,000 salary. the proposal was met with outrage, causing trustees to cancel the bonus. a fremont man loves bo betty so much, he created the first boba card game.card game.. the story behind this though is somewhat of a miracle. five years ago, his friend fell asleep at the wheel. look at that, their car crashed into a tree. after emergency surgery, he crafted the idea for the game, while sitting in his hospital bed. the uc davis grad wanted the game to share a taste of the asian american culture, and a drink that has exploded into america's mainstream. >> this, in itself, give people a chance to sit down, grab a boba drink, play games with your friends, great laughter injured these memories. >> the game has players in a race to build drink sets of the traditional milk tea and toppings. will be shipping out next

something stinky is drawing visitors to a quarter of alameda. this line stretched half a block at times, all to see and smell a corpse flower. that is it. it gets the name from its rotting send. the plant stands several feet tall and blooming is a very rare event. this one belongs to a local gardener who want to share with the community. >> this is a treelike looking plant with a really wide canopy. that produces it over and over every year until the bulb has sort of enough energy for it to bloom. this can take 10 years, this can take 15, it can take 20. >> so the bloom though only last for about a day, then the plant dies, or the bloom, i should say. the bulb then rests for several months, for the whole process to start again. it could actually take years for it to form another flower. are you on board now? >> know. >> you are not on board at 5:30. >> to me it looks like a big cabbage.

live on hulu live, and wherever you stream. we are checking in with meteorologist mike nicco with a check at the tuesday forecast. hi, mike. >> tomasi, reggie, everybody. transfer joining us. what's a look at what's changed since yesterday. we have a wind advisory. potential for wind damage, starting at 5:00 tomorrow evening and goes to 5:00 thursday morning. during that 12 hour period, we are going to have northwest winds about 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts possibly up to 40 to 50 miles per hour. the result could be downed trees and power lines, in all areas, except the east valleys, and also the santa clara valley's, so you have plenty of time to get prepared for that. what we are watching right now, look at that from the exploratorium, doesn't that sunshine look gorgeous? we have breezes out there and a little bit of cloud cover right along the peninsula coast, but these dryer breezes are going to keep the sunshine in the forecast and temperatures are going to try to work their way back to average from 56 and half moon bay to mid 60s around the bay, to even mid to upper

foothill boulevard. at one time, chp had closed a stretch of eastbound 580 at mcarthur boulevard. those lanes are now back open and we have reached out to oakland pd on the chp, and we will let you know as soon as we learn more information. reggie? terrible. jobina, thank you. the president biden says by today, 60% of adults will have received at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine. it comes amid nationwide confusion over what we are doing with masks. the cdc now says you do not need one wall outside or inside in most cases, if you are fully vaccinated. some people say they are hesitant to take off those masks. this morning on gma, dr. anthony fauci says, don't worry. >> people who are vaccinated should feel safe, but even if you have a breakthrough infection, the chances of you transmitting it to someone else is extremely low. very, very low. >> target and home depot have joined chains like starbucks, walmart, trader joe's and costco in dropping mask rules. it only applies in states

without mask mandates, which means it'll be a few more weeks until we can get rid of our masks here in california. the state says it'll align with cdc guidance on june 15th. that timeline isn't sitting well for some people. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us in walnut creek this morning. amy? >> reporter: that's right, reggie. some people do want to take our masks off now, inside businesses. california officials say, they want us to wait a bit and they are doing this because they do think we need more time. they just want to give us a little bit more time. they want people who have been waiting to get vaccinated to go ahead and get it done in these next four weeks. they want to give businesses time to prepare for the change, and they want us all to have a little time mentally to prepare for the shift. here is some reaction we heard out here on the streets. >> i'm going to err on the side of caution, and i'm going to wear mine for a long time, until i feel comfortable not wearing it. >> i think, ideally, you know, if there were more in line with

the national mandate, might be a little easier to, you know. i will tell you, it's confusing when you go into a restaurant, i mean, do you wear your mask for three steps and take it off? i mean, it causes a lot of confusion and i'm hoping it's not hurting our local businesses. >> reporter: well, that confusion will be behind us on june 15th. that is the big day, the governor has set that day as the day the state will reopen and that will also be the day that the mask mandate will be dropped. so vaccinated people, they are clear to take our masks off outside right now, but indoors, inside businesses, we all need to keep our masks on the 15th. we did hear some relief from local health officials, from san francisco to marin. we checked in and they said, this is a good idea. they don't feel quite ready yet. live in the east bay, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. all right, amy, thank you. while the governors june 15th

full reopening target may give businesses the go-ahead they need, one industry is calling for a little more guidance to clear things up. bay area wedding and event planners say they are stuck in limbo. since they are considered live ticket concerts or sporting events, there's gray area on their specific safety guidelines. >> when you are looking at social events, where there is mingling and eating and drinking, it's much different. that's why we really need our guidelines to be very referral. i've been telling my clients, let's wait until 2022. dings will be so much more clear at that point. >> in a statement to abc7 news, the state department of public health said, as we get closer to the identified reopening date, we will continue to provide additional guidance in details related to specific sectors. the covid-19 crisis has focused the attention on all types of our medical care in the bay area, but particularly mental health. cdc study last year found that 1 and 3 u.s. adults reported some kind of symptoms related to anxiety or depression.

community church of the nazarene on ashbury drive started just after midnight yesterday. it was in an office. investigators say it was intentionally set. they are not sure if the suspect in custody is responsible for the first fire last week. last thursday, the fire destroyed another building belonging to the church. investigators believe it happened and is where someone was sleeping. no one was there in either fire. developing news, extreme weather is being felt from coast-to-coast. while we are seeing drought conditions here, other people are experiencing major flooding. in dallas, texas, people faced two tornadoes and flash flooding. in louisiana, rescuers in boats and trucks had to pull people from about 80 homes. video shows parents carrying their kids on their backs and waste deep water, while pushing them up, picking them up from school. more than foot of rain fell, one of the wettest days on record. >> obviously i will do anything to get to her come make sure i can get her home. i have two other kids that are stuck. in southern california, a suspect has been arrested for

es opened fire. alameda's next police chief is coming from right next door in oakland. the city announced that he has landed the job and he is currently a deputy chief with oakland. he's been with the department for more than 20 years. he comes to alameda as the department is facing an investigation protest and criticism over the death of mario gonzalez. who died after police pinned him to the ground la in the east bay, oakland has a new fire chief who said he is ready to lead the department into the future of firefighting. reginald freeman, just sworn in, comes from hartford, connecticut, where he was fired five years. he talked about the oakland hills firestorm and that he understands the challenges of our wildfire season. >> the threat of wildfire in this city is a myth. i know this department takes out response ability extremely seriously, as i do. >> he also wants to improve diversity within the department. in north bay today, we could see a final decision on a

bitter neighborhood battle over marijuana. residents of liberty valley near petaluma held a rally outside the sonoma county board offices yesterday. they are upset over proposed changes to cannabis growing roles. it would allow a 50 acre grove right in the middle of a neighborhood. >> in this county, there are places where you can grow cannabis. we just need to define where those are and point people in that direction. >> if it was grapes, if it was anything else, i wouldn't want to hear. i wouldn't want it in my neighborhood. it's all about the impact it's going to have. >> the board of supervisors meeting starts this morning at 8:30. now to your morning money report, majority of american families with kids will soon get a monthly tax credit, about 88% of families will automatically receive up to $300 a month, starting july 15th. the irs says a family who qualified for the child tax credit will receive monthly payments. payments will come via direct deposit, checks, or debit cards, and eligibility will be based on 2019 or 2020

listen. now this has been going on since last year. experts say the noise comes from wind passing through new railings and when fairings on the western side of the bridge. they were in called as part of the retrofit project. according to the chronicle, engineers in canada are nattering to figure out how to silence the bridge. although there are few details on when or how they will do that. they will have more to say this summer. you might not be familiar with san francisco's most ironic sculpture, but a huge sundial is one of the cities, it is in one of the city's foggiest neighborhoods, could become a landmark. let's check it out. this is the ingleside sundial. it is on intro to court in the ingleside terrace's neighborhood. a real estate developer was behind the project in 1913. the 28 foot sundial was supposed to attract house hunters to what was then san francisco's newest neighborhood. now, supervisors are considering designating the sundial as a landmark.
