powerful winds toppled a tree in sausalito today and came down on a house. look at this video into the abc7 newsroom. the tree took down power lines, forcing several people to shelter in place until pg&e could safely turn the lines off. crews are there now, working to restore power and clean up debris. it is closed until further notice. man, so much damage of the last few days with all of that went. >> we have seen a lot on there. the sizes that she does something else. that is a significant tree coming down. >> meteorologist eddie patella here with heloise wenzel last. >> i know people are tired of these winds. i think they will ease a bit as we head into tomorrow. and by sunday we are looking at

much lighter winds here in the bay area, typical of what we expect to see around this time of year. i want to show you what's bringing the winds into an area of low pressure that is producing thunderstorms, bringing snow to sierra nevada that even what weather down south. you will notice, as we show you the view right now the area of low pressure just spinning in this area, i'm going to get you in a little bit closer, because i want to show you how much this is a very active pattern in the mountains at this hour. and the snow showers will continue. if you have travel plans to tahoe, probably best to hold off until the snow showers are done, which will be a by tomorrow evening. i want to show you live doppler locally, it is quiet. but keeping an eye on what you are seeing here, little bit of moisture just around the upper lake county area. there is a possibility of an isolated shower or thunderstorm until the sun es down.

look at san mateo right now, 30 miles an hour, onshore winds, 39 at sfo, 29 in nevada. not nearly as strong as they were the last couple of days, but still gusty. 7:00 today, we will keep the winds going. into tomorrow morning it is just going to be such a difference, with much lighter winds. then into the afternoon the winds will pick up again. but this is really what you expect to see with about 30 to 35 mile an hour winds figure saturday afternoon and evening. we are looking towards lake merritt and here is a look at the temperatures. low to mid 70s from santa rosa to napa. fairfield, 75, 66 in livermore. it is milder away from the coast. and a beautiful view from the golden gate bridge. you will be seeing more of that son. 59 in the city, 68 in san jose, 62 degrees in oakland. if you're getting away this weekend local airports are sunny, milder, upper 60s to low 70s. breezy conditions expected and then honolulu, isolated showers, same thing for chicago, mid-80s.

unified, who is set to retire next week, after 57 years. she is often called the kid whisperer because her ability to really reach students. our education reporter paid a visit. >> i am a kindergarten teacher at martin luther king and i have been teaching with the oakland unified school district for 57 years. >> reporter: she moved from chickasha, oklahoma to oakland to teach, in 1964. kennedy had already been assassinated. martin luther king, jr. was the most prominent civil rights leader. there was beatlemania, the moon landing a few years later and america was involved in a war that was unpopular. >> everybody wogive respect fae6 parents were more engaged with their children.

an annual event has a new name this year because of the pandemic. today is like to wherever around the country and here in the bay area. organizers changed the name from the familiar bike to work day because so many people are working from home. they are encouraging people to get out and ride, even offering free tote bags at so-called energizer stations all around the bay area, like blitz one on the embarcadero in san francisco. whether you bike or walk, many of us are ready to get moving again, especially as we hit the weekend. a new study says that 7500 steps a day could add years to your life.
