11:00 live here on abc7, hulu live and wherever you stream. several big changes will happen on june 15th. the state will do away with mask requirements for those who are fully vaccinated. capacity limits and other social distancing requirements for all businesses will be lifted, but for mega events you'll need to be fully vaccinated or have a negative covid test. >> abc7 news reporter kate larson spoke with some bay area residents who are still nervous. >> reporter: june 15th is when there's no more distancing, no more capacity limits and no more masks in most places. >> we're at a place with this pandemic where those requirements of the past are no longer needed for the foreseeable future. >> i think i'm looking forward to sitting inside of a coffee shop in the morning and drinking a coffee without a mask near me. >> reporter: but not everyone is so eager to reopen in 25 days. are you ready? >> no. >> we kind of take it slow. >> i'm not comfortable yet. >> reporter: katherine elman is concerned the reopening may

that this may only be a temporary thing. so it's been a long time that we've been inside and we've had some opportunities to go out and then taken back away from us. >> reporter: dr. galley also announced california is not considering or requiring a vaccine passport at this time. >> i would like to have the vaccine passport. >> reporter: peter and his 3- year-old son can't get vaccinated yet. so he says official proof would make his family feel safer. >> it's kind of risky. so you don't know who is vaccinated and who is not >>pocalifornia is recommending mega events with 10,000 people outside or 5,000 inside require vaccine or covid test verification. >> being in person and experiencing live music is just a really special thing. >> reporter: cliff eveland is executive director of the petaluma music festival which benefit public school music programs. they plan to host up to 4,000 people in august at the sonoma marin fairgrounds. as of now what are the safety

plans the festival has in place? >> right now we are doing something very similar to the san francisco giants where you either need to be fully vaccinated two weeks prior to the festival or you need to have a negative covid test within 72 hours of the festival. >> reporter: eveland says they will turn people away if they don't have proper documentation. >> fingers crossed that things are going to continue to get better and we can drop some of the restrictions. >> reporter: kate larson, abc7 news. in the south bay more attractions are starting to reopen after being shut down for more than a year. this includes california's great america fo it45th season tomorrow. park capacity will be limited to 35% at first to allow for proper spacing under state guidelines. now some rows will remain empty on most rides and face coverings will be required. >> being able to interact with the guests when they get on the rides and off the rides and

they're all yelling and screaming, happy to get back to that. >> the pandemic closure has allowed the park to make some progress on the new south bay shores water park. that will open june 5th. sister property gilroy gardens will also reopen this weekend. the san francisco 49ers will welcome back fans at full capacity this season. that means roughly 68,000 people inside levi stadium. two preseason games will be hosted at levi's in august followed by the 49ers home opener against the green bay packers september 26th. on the peninsula half moon bay is canceling its fourth of july parade and october's pumpkin festival. organizers say the logistics and finances this year are too difficult and restrictions. the pumpkin weighoff will still be held. uc berkeley will resume in apparently classes in the fall. cal had previously planned to start the semester with remote learning first to allow students and staff to be tested

for covid. they are encouraging all students and staff to be fully vaccinated before the fall semester begins august 25th. tonight nationwide daily covid cases have fallen to under 28,000, proof experts say that vaccines are crushing the virus. >> as more and more people roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated, the number of cases and level of community risk is decreasing. >> this map shows the dramatic change in cases and hospitalizations from january to may. according to the cdc, more than 160 million people in the u.s. have at least one dose of the covid-19 shot. the memphis grizzlies are in the playoffs. they eliminate the golden state warriors. >> oh, a heart breaking loss for the warriors tonight. their playoff hopes dashed. despite a surge from steph curry they fell to the grizzlies in overtime. >> we have live team coverage outside chase center. let's begin with abc7 news sports anchor chris alvarez. chris.

>> reporter: yeah. what can i say? it was a heartbreaker, a tough way to end the season. the dubs had two chances to make the playoffs in this new play-in tournament, tough loss lakers wednesday and a tough brutal loss in overtime tonight with the grizzlies. let's go to some of the highlights from tonight. stephen curry played it all on the floor, scored a game high 39 and played 47 minutes and fans chanting mvp. he was brilliant, but after struggling sunday ja scored big shots all night. here's steph on the game and the outlook moving forward. >> just didn't go our way. i don't know how many different ways to say it. it was a special year all things considered. a new experience for me, draymond alone tried to make the most of the it, come back, everybody make the right

new details about the fire that burned dangerously close to a tv station. one person was arrested suspected of starting the fire deliberately. 23-year-old victor hernandez is also being investigated for other recent fires in the area. the fire has burned nine acres and damaged two homes. so far it's 80% contained. evacuation orders were lifted this morning. hayward police have released body camera footage of an incident involving two officers who shot and killed a man. we want to warn you this video may be difficult to watch. the shooting happened in march in the parking lot of a motel 6 on industrial parkway near whipple road. that's where officers found a car believed to be connected to a recent string of robberies. hayward's police chief spoke

today about what happened next. >> as officers approached the car, the driver accelerated striking police vehicles multiple times. this is when the officer- involved shooting occurred. unfortunately the driver, a resident from oakland, 22-year- old caleb smith, was killed. >> two passengers in the car were not hurt and were later arrested. investigators also found a gun in the car. they are now working to determine the group's possible connection to at least a dozen robberies in hayward dating back to december. new developments, the mayor of windsor resigned today after six weeks at the center of a sex scandal. multiple women have accused dominic foppoli of sexual assault, the latest according to the san francisco chronicle former teen mom reality tv star farrah abraham. she's the ninth possible victim. abraham filed charges against foppoli on april 2nd in palm beach, florida. her attorney says she has proof on video. it seems her accusation s e ppg step down despite fighting a

>> the longest i've run nonstop is 350 miles, and that was over 80 hours of running -- 80 hours and 44 minutes. ♪ i've also run across the u.s. so i've run from los angeles to new york city, and that was 3,000 miles. that was 75 days, though, so that is the longest 75 days i've spent running. you know, people say, "during a race, have you ever had the desire to stop?" and i would say, "almost every single race." you know, if you don't have the desire to stop, then you're not pushing yourself hard enough. it's kind of having the mental fortitude to override what your body's saying, which is, "stop." so having the self-discipline and the sheer grunt work of just continuing to go is something you sometimes force yourself to do. ♪ this is a photo finishing the

western states 100-mile endurance run, my 10th time, and you can see i have alexandria and nicholas next to me. so that was a pretty special moment. i have an espy award from espn, which is pretty nice. this is from the 2013 boston marathon, and that was the year of the bombing. and i had finished the race, but i had to go back in 2014, as well, and show my support. i have a couple sets of bronze shoes from "regis and kelly" from running across america. so, kelly ripa gave me my shoes bronzed. >> those are the shoes you ran in. >> those are the shoes i ran in, yep, all the way across the country. people don't realize that a human can run 100 miles nonstop, so they ask the same questions i asked when i heard about it, like, "how many days does it take? where are the hotels? where are the campgrounds?" and when i tell them, "no, you just start running, and you stop when you get to the finish line, or you pull yourself out of the race," they're as amazed as i was when i first heard about it. so, i grew up in a little seaside town called san clemente, in southern california.

my earliest childhood recollections are actually running home from kindergarten when i was 6 years old. i used to sit in class. i remember i'd just wait for that bell to ring so i could bust out and go running home. sitting in a classroom and being told to pay attention and sit still was -- it was counterintuitive to my nature. i wanted to get outside and run. ♪ at 15, i hung up my running shoes, and i got really into surfing. surfing, to me, was life. i moved to australia when i was 15. i was an exchange student who lived in australia right on the beach, and the waves were perfect, and i just got very, very involved in surfing. and then college came along and then graduate school, and i just completely forgot about running. ♪ i had a very comfortable job in san francisco, but i was very dissatisfied. and on the night of my 30th birthday, i was in a bar in san francisco, doing what most people do on their 30th birthday -- i was drinking with my buddies. and at midnight, i told them i was leaving, and they said,

"where are you going? it's your 30th birthday, it's midnight. let's have another round of tequila," and i said, "no, instead of having another round of tequila to celebrate my 30th birthday, i'm gonna run 30 miles." [ laughs ] so, i walked out of the bar -- it was in the marina district of san francisco -- and i didn't even own running gear, but thankfully, i had these comfortable silk boxer shorts on, these boxer underwear shorts, so i peeled off my pants and said, "i know if i make it to half moon bay, that's 30 miles," and i just started stumbling into the night. [ chuckles ] [ telephone rings ] >> so, i got a telephone call from him, and he said, "can you come pick me up?" and i said, "well, sure. where do you want me to come get you?" and he said, "well, i'm at 7-eleven," and i said, "oh, okay, yeah -- geary street. i gotcha." he goes, "no, no. i'm in half moon bay." and i was like, "okay. well, can i say you don't sound very good? how about i come pick you up sooner than later? can you just stay put?" he goes, "i can't get up."
