>> that's okay, friend. we've got you for right now. it is monday, may 24 we want to start with checking on the forecast. >> good morning, everyone looking at clouds clinging to i the coastline and the push of ram a little bit less this morning with high-pressure building in so we have a warmer day on tap. 52 in pleasanton, closer to the bay the low 40s and there is a look outside for partly cloudy day today, upper 60s and mid-70s by noon time and by the afternoon, 80s and the inland valley. keeping it cool at the coast and we will talk about the last week of may in detail in a few minutes. this is a milestone for the tourism industry. the largest hotel is to to welcome back guests today for the very first time since the pandemic hit last year.

amy hollyfield is live outside of union square. >> reporter: the guests are from arizona and will be pulling them here at 11:00 this morning and they are the first guests in more than one year. the hotel has been closed during the entire pandemic. the management said they hope with the big countdown to reopening that they create some excitement and anticipation for the entire city for visitors and for the attractions in the area and they believe the hotel industry will have to come back. >> we are a very resilient industry. the past year has been very tough but we will recover and people will come back. >> even though the hotel was closed, it still stands out a message of hope with a message of light saying i heart san francisco on the side of the

building. the hotel has 2000 rooms and is the largest hotel in the city and they plan to slowly reopen. they will open one of the three towers to start and rates start at $200 a night and as part of their safety protocols they are offering a contactless experience. check in, choose your room and open it with the digital he and check out through the app so you never have to touch or come in contact with anyone although they will still make sure that you still experience warm hospitality while you're here. another reopening milestone, the church bells ringing again took for indoor and in person masgrace cathedral. for the first time since last march, 200 people were allowed inside, sitting on the pews in a cathedral that consistently sees 2000 people.

relationship. >> there are also ongoing questions about the origins of covid-19. the wall street journal reports three sick and needed hospital care back in november of 2019 and the world health organization continues to investigate. after delivery more than a 500,000 vaccinations, the team at the coliseum has given their last shot. it took only 10 days to set up back in mid february and at its peak, 6000 people every day were getting the vaccine but recently demand fell to 400 people a day. >> it is a little sad to see it closing down kind of like the last day of school and saying goodbye to the team members. there is no doubt that the people who worked here saved many hundreds of lives.

have a few high clouds, 5:00 tomorrow morning, another push of low clouds and this guys clear and we will be breezier for tuesday. the winds have been a factor with westerly winds throughout the afternoon today. at 6:00, 30 to 35 mile an hour winds and the colors indicate the gusty spots as we get into tuesday, a week system arrives allowing for more breezy winds and along the coast even stronger maybe 40 miles an hour. as for today, a few clouds around, partly cloudy, 57, mid- 70s in san jose in the 80s return to the inland valleys with 80 in livermore and napa. the numbers today are probably the warmest we will see, one of the warmer days out of the week but a nice afternoon in store and hopefully monday morning tap traffic will be cooperating.

today italian investigators will be at the site of a deadly cable car disaster. 14 people including the child were killed when the cable snapped in the emergency brake failed. >> the incident happened sunday with the cable car clenching 50 feet to the ground in the northern italian alps. the lone survivor is a five-year-old boy who remains hospitalized this morning with multiple broken bones. officials say the car was taking passengers to the top of the mountain on what was supposed to be a 20 minute trip and nearby hikers say they heard a loud hiss just before the crash when the cable snapped and the car rolled down the mountain and slammed into trees.

the alpine rescue team said the cable car had been closed during the pandemic and only recently reopened and was renovated five years ago. the chp searching for the person responsible for killing this six-year-old boy in southern california. he was shot during a road rage incident. his mother said she was driving in orange on friday when the boy was hit in the back seat in the suspects are a man and woman in a newer white car. in oakland, faith leaders let up prayer vigil for those who have lost loved ones to violence. >> we have to stop killing each other. >> benefit organization put together the vigil and so far this year th53 homicides in the city. east bay times reporting there were 23 at this time last year and about 50 people came out to the vigil. including members of the oakland police department. >> prioritizing getting justice for several women who were

minutes. california continues to record the lowest case rates in all of the u.s. and now the state is home to four of the 10 metro areas with the lowest rates. according to the data website, at a 400 cities, the salinas area has the lowest rate at 0.6 per 100,000 people. in a close second is santa cruz with 0.7 cases per 100,000 people. san jose eight and then los angeles metro area was 10th. there are questions about when the coronavirus was first attacked it in china. report shows researchers at the wuhan institute got sick and were hospitalized in november 2019 and that is weeks before the country said they first detected the disease in december 2019 and it's not clear if the researchers were sick with covid. chinese health officials call the report a complete lie.
