through the afternoon we're going to see partly cloudy skies with numbers from five it ten degrees warmer inland for some 80s and 70s around the bay. >> thank you lisa. a milestone for san francisco's tourism industry and the path to reopen california. the city's largest hotel is welcoming back guests today for the first time since the pandemic hit last year. amy is live outside of the hilton in union square. good morning. >> good morning. the first guests will be visiting from arizona. they are set to arrive here at 11:00 this morning a family from arizona. this hotel has been closed for more than a year. so this is a very exciting moment. the hilton's been closed since last march. they hope with this count down and this build up they are creating excitement and anticipation for city visitors and the attractions in the area

and believe the hotel industry will have a strong come back. >> i think we're a very resilient industry. the past year has been very, very tough but we will recovewio and people will come back. >> even though the hotel was closed its still sent out a message of hope to the city during the pandemic with a message of light saying i heart sf on the side of the building. the hotel has 2000 rooms. they plan to open one of their three towers to start. rates start at $200 a night and as part of their safety plan guests will have a contactless check in option. so they can check in, choose their room, even open their door with a digital key and also check out through the app but the hotel still promising even with a contactless experience it will still have warm hospitality. reporting live in san francisco, amy holyfield abc 7 news.

and a heart condition that's an inflammation of the heart muscle that decreases its ability to pump blood normally. >> the cdc issued this information and this notice out of an abundance of caution. they're trying to investigate to see if they're related at all to the vaccine. at this point there is no relationship proven. >> there are also on going questions about the origins of covid-19. the wall street journal reports three researchers at a lab got sick and needed hospital care back in november much 2019. the world health organization continues to investigate how the pandemic started. >> thank you. after delivering more than half a million vaccinations giving its last shot. yesterday was the final day to get vaccinated at the coliseum mass vaccination site. it took ten days to get it set- up in february at its peak 6000 people a day were getting the vaccine but recently demand fell to 400 people a day now

there were 23 at this point last year. about 50 people attended the vigil including members much the oakland police department. fremont's mayor is calling on the district attorney to prioritize getting justice for several women one of them a 67- year-old woman who was attacked in broad daylight. fremont residents met with council members and police chiefs sunday to address their concerns. police have linked 28-year-old alexander lomax to three attacks but there could be more victims. one council member says their partnership with the community is helping people heal. >> how we're going to collaborate with our police, our police patrol know who is helping us in our community. >> fremont police chief is encouraging residents to report any type of crime and remember if you see something say something sphvment california is preparing for a rough fire season this year. still ahead the battle plan governor newsom is expected to

well we haven't seen one or seen one over head in more than two years. the bay area is being treated to a rare super blood moon happening this week otherwise known as a total lunar eclipse but you will have to set your alarm extra early but it's worth it. sometime around 3:00 a.m. wednesday morning we'll be up with you. this is the best time to see the moon turn into that dark dusty red and appear much closer than normal. lisa are you going to get up with us wednesday? >> i was just thinking about that. you know, i'm not too sure about that but you know, when you are on this shift you always seem to wake up at that hour anyway even if you are not working. in the north bay looking at numbers in the low 80s. it's going to be a warmer day here with partly cloudy skies

came in ten. 100 people have been arrested for a massive party that started with a viral tiktok invite and exploded in size saturday night. [ yelling ] >> okay. the tiktok video was for an open invite birthday party and they had fireworks too. somebody called the police to breakup the party and they guessed that about 2500 people showed up. >> all right. this morning there are new questions about when the coronavirus was first detected in china. a u.s. intelligence report by the wall street journal shows researchers at the institute of technology got sick and were hospitalized in 2019 weeks before they first detected the disease in december of 2019. it's not clear if those researchers were actually sick with covid. chinese health officials are calling the report a complete lie. tomorrow will mark one year since the death of george floyd

at the hands much minneapolis police and on the eve of this h two events today continuing to fight for justice. >> the first event today will be a panel discussion with other families of people killed by police. then tonight there will be a rally for justice called called george floyd angelve rsa ry. over the weekend from brooklyn to minneapolis. last month derek chauvin seen on video with his knee on george floyd's neck for more than nine minutes was convicted. his actions sparked a movement calling for major changes in policing but floyd's sister says the work is far from over. >> i will stand and be the voice for him. i will stand and be the change for him. i will stand and continue to be the legacy for him. >> president biden has invited floyd's family to the white house tomorrow to mark the

anniversary of his death. the president has called on congress to pass police reform legislation named after george floyd before tomorrow's anniversary but it seems unlikely that law makers will make that deadline. >> thank you. congress is weighing in on that deadline with numbers saying that their work on geor real reform rather than meeting a deadline. it would ban choke-holds and no knock warrants and establish a national registry of police misconduct. more than 18,000 are reviewing procedures training and hiring and a behavioral health unit. >> when we tell them we're taking a person in for treatment or taking a person to the mental health facility rather than jail most often than not they're pretty happy with that. >> there are also calls for more racial diversity on police forces. abc news analysis of census data found that 99 of the

welcome back everyone. breaking news to share with you right now. pge just agreed to francisco headquarters for $800 million. the buyer is a delaware based partnership named heinz atlas u.s. the sale means that pge is on track for a move to the new headquarters in oakland slated to begin the first part of next year. today italian investigators will be at the site of a deadly cable car disaster. 14 people including a child all killed when the lead cable snapped and the emergency brake failed. we have more on this tragedy at the live desk. >> thank you. the incident happened sunday. the cable car plunging 50 feet to the ground in the northern italian alps. the lone survivor is boy with m broken bones. italian officials say the car was taking passengers to the

top of the mountain on what was supposed to be a 20 minute trip. hikeers heard a loud hiss just before the crash. when the cable snapped the car rolled down the mountain and slammed into trees. the cable car had been closed during the pandemic and only recently reopened. it was renovated five years ago. california is leading the way in building back jobs out of the pandemic but for many families it's not fast enough. california created more than a third of the nation's new jobs in april but that was actually fewer than what it created in march and the jobless rate remains at 8.3%. many of those unemployed still struggle with the state's agency. we received complaints about the website and the call center going down. we knew there was scheduled maintenance happening on saturday but we didn't realize that black out was going to last until sunday. more than 200 people reached out to abc 7 news. our calls and e-mails weren't

can give out and if people don't meet state or federal requirements the county can step in to provide help. >> we are seeing all kinds of people impacted from small business owners to low income renters and people who are working in the service industry. many people are people who work in the service industry and were really impacted by covid. >> so they registered 115 people for help at a similar event on wednesday and 150 people yesterday. now let's take a live look at the new york stock exchange trading up right now by about 120 points. a bay area restaurant that once championed the tip free movement is now bringing tips back. cammal went tip free seven years ago and put in a flat 20% service fee. at that time they only had one restaurant but now there are three eateries in berkeley and oakland and the concept no longer makes sense for them. the idea had been to create more pay equity between staff who interact with the public
