will gather outside city hall for a vigil to honor the victims. we have a look at that growing memorial. >> reporter: there are no words to comfort the families who had a loved one snatched away from them in this latest mass shooting. tonight the city of san jose will be coming together with those families to help them grieve and mourn. let's get to the growing memorial outside of the san jose city hall. you can see the flowers, candles, and flowers surrounding the names of the victims that we now know. the vigil will be happening at 6:00 p.m. tonight. families are heartbroken this morning the family of 36-year- old taptejdeep singh a light rail operator who was one of the nine people killed. he believes, leaves behind a

wife and two young children. an employee told his brother that he saved the lives. >> one lady he put in the control room to hide over here. he could go there too, but after that he went towards downstairs. >> reporter: coworkers telling the family he left a secure room where people were hunkered down so he could get others to safety. his own life is on the line and he risked it to save others. that vigil is at 6:00 p.m. tonight at san jose city hall. 200 east santa clara street. for folks a familiar, we know that the mayor along with city councilmembers and many meere v largwillbe p.m. to rememb ves cunews .

the daughter of a 25-year- old employee spoke to good morning america. she says her father was working at the railyard and said that he ran outside and hid behind the train car. >> he was praying the whole time and he wasn't sure he would come home to's. >> you can help support victims by going to https://abc7news.com/ take action. investigators are still at the vta railyard where this happened. we are live with an update . >> reporter: good morning. for the first time we are hearing about the guns that investigators found. the sheriff told us they found two automatic pistols and 11 magazines full of ammunition.

she thinks that her deputies arrival saved lives. when the gunman sought the deputies entered the building he stopped killing people and turned the weapon on himself. another person died late last night to get the death toll to nine shooting victims. there are no victims with injuries. everyone who was shot has died. there is no obvious motive at this point. the shooter did not leave behind a note. she says that they are looking. >> we will be doing search warrants on emails and telephones. we will be able to see the texts and things like that. i do not know if there have been any written documents found so far. >> reporter: in a very ironic twist, the sheriff revealed these vta rken trained for this. the sheriff's office

a training exercise right here at this location within the past year. yesterday morning and 6:30 it happened for real. we asked the chair of how her deputies are holding up your she says that they are struggling after seeing so many dead that they could not help. investigators will be here for at least one more day searching the scene for evidence. abc7 news . >> as a rampage unfolded at the vta service yard, firefighters were responding to a fire at the suspects home. that home is an active crime scene. >> reporter: investigators have not said what caused the fire. we have a live look from sky 7 so we can get an idea of the scene there. the road is back open. we saw investigators yesterday in the backyard looking to see police vehicles there.

we do not know when officers will clear the area. a number of things for found inside this home. a surveillance camera shows the suspect dressed in the vta uniform, calmly loading up his truck to go to work. moments after the suspect left, the house burst into flames with heavy smoke billowing from the windows. those flames were so intense that firefighters could not initially go inside with the mass shooting just 11 miles away and then the arrival of the bomb squad followed by the atf and the f vi, it became clear that this crime have become a major crime scene. >> i had no two that those two were correlated. he went over there and went crazy. it is shocking. i had no idea that that would happen across the street to my house.

last night. there is a vigil planted city hall at 6:00. at 10:00 this morning we expect an update from vta. at the railyard and at the shooter's home. we are live at the railyard with the latest information coming directly from the santa clara county sheriff. >> reporter: good morning. the sheriff gave us enough date on the weapons and explosives found here in the search for emotive. you can see behind me that this area is roped off with crime tape. they are here gathering evidence, and they expect to be here at least all of today. for the first time we have heard about the guns that were found. two semi automatic pistols and 11 magazines ammunition. they don't appear to have been modified. she thinks he plan to keep shooting people, but he stopped and killed himself when deputies arrived. we asked her about explosives.

yesterday bomb sniffing dogs detected evidence of bomb making materials. here is what she had to say. >> our canines alerted on explosives in a locker which was his locker. there were the precursor things too. there were no explosive devices. the san jose police department is handling the fire and that crime scene and i know that they found explosive material there. one thing we are releasing is that the suspect had on him at the place where he died two semi automatic handguns. there were 11 magazines that had ammunition in them. >> reporter: another person died late last night bringing the death toll to nine shooting victims. the sheriff told us this morning there are no victims

we now know all nine of the victims. we are learning some of their stories. as we heard from the sheriff's office is morning, no word on the motive. we are learning from a vta employed that the killer was targeting his victims. we are learning of acts of selflessness that saved the lives of others. taptejdeep singh, one of the victims like be saved at least one coworkers life by hiding her in a room before he was shot and killed. a family member reminds him, reminded of how nice he was. >> he is family. he has too many >> reporter: we are taking another life look at this

man. she said she was married to him for 10 years. they split up 16 years ago and have not had much contact since then. >> to me he was a sweet guy. a nice guy. he had a temper. i am still in shock as to why he did this. i just don't get it. >> cassidy's former girlfriend who did not want to be identified said she had a court case against him claiming that he threatened and sexually assaulted her. she says he was unhappy at work. >> i feel so sorry for the people who get killed. i feel bad about the people that died. >> reporter: but you feel fortunate for yourself. >> yes, i feel lucky. we are hearing from a san jose man that knew that shooting suspect. he said he is shocked this has
