businesses. the equal opportunity commission says employers can require employees to get covid- 19 vaccines. bay area health officials are weighing in on whether schools should reopen full time in the fall. there are also more new rules when it comes to mask wearing when it comes to summer camps. >> when school resumes it should be for in person learning five days a week. the counties released a letter today detailing the support of the guidance. if the campers and staffers are fully vaccinated they do not have to wear masks

you saw what gas prices are doing. get this. the price of stamps is going up this summer as part o of a plan to help the u.s. postal service. first class stamps will go up and some other services will also increase. this all goes into effect august 29th. the usps says mail volume has gone down impacting of course the agency's revenue. in the east bay today, alameda firefighters came to the rescue of a stuck sea gull. look at it. in a tweet they said it appears the sea gull was tangled in

♪ 350 mild that was over 80 hours and 44 minutes. ♪ i've also run across the u.s. so i've run from los angeles to new york city, and that was 3,000 miles. that was 75 days, though, so that is the longest 75 days i've spent running. you know, people say, "during a race, have you ever had the desire to stop?" and i would say, "almost every single race." you know, if you don't have the desire to stop, then you're not pushing yourself hard enough. it's kind of having the mental fortitude to override what your body's saying, which is, "stop." so having the self-discipline and the sheer grunt work of just continuing to go is something you sometimes force yourself to do. ♪

this is a photo finishing the western states 100-mile endurance run, my 10th time, and you can see i have alexandria and nicholas next to me. so that was a pretty special moment. i have an espy award from espn, which is pretty nice. this is from the 2013 boston marathon, and that was the year of the bombing. and i had finished the race, but i had to go back in 2014, as well, and show my support. i have a couple sets of bronze shoes from "regis and kelly" from running across america. so, kelly ripa gave me my shoes bronzed. >> those are the shoes you ran in. >> those are the shoes i ran in, yep, all the way across the country. people don't realize that a human can run 100 miles nonstop, so they ask the same questions i asked when i heard about it, like, "how many days does it take? where are the hotels? where are the campgrounds?" and when i tell them, "no, you just start running, and you stop when you get to the finish line, or you pull yourself out of the race," they're as amazed as i was when i first heard about it. so, i grew up in a little seaside town called

san clemente, in southern california. my earliest childhood recollections are actually running home from kindergarten when i was 6 years old. i used to sit in class. i remember i'd just wait for that bell to ring so i could bust out and go running home. sitting in a classroom and being told to pay attention and sit still was -- it was counterintuitive to my nature. i wanted to get outside and run. ♪ at 15, i hung up my running shoes, and i got really into surfing. surfing, to me, was life. i moved to australia when i was 15. i was an exchange student who lived in australia right on the beach, and the waves were perfect, and i just got very, very involved in surfing. and then college came along and then graduate school, and i just completely forgot about running. ♪ i had a very comfortable job in san francisco, but i was very dissatisfied. and on the night of my 30th birthday, i was in a bar in san francisco, doing what most people do on their 30th birthday -- i was drinking with my buddies.

and at midnight, i told them i was leaving, and they said, "where are you going? it's your 30th birthday, it's midnight. let's have another round of tequila," and i said, "no, instead of having another round of tequila to celebrate my 30th birthday, i'm gonna run 30 miles." [ laughs ] so, i walked out of the bar -- it was in the marina district of san francisco -- and i didn't even own running gear, but thankfully, i had these comfortable silk boxer shorts on, these boxer underwear shorts, so i peeled off my pants and said, "i know if i make it to half moon bay, that's 30 miles," and i just started stumbling into the night. [ chuckles ] [ telephone rings ] >> so, i got a telephone call from him, and he said, "can you come pick me up?" and i said, "well, sure. where do you want me to come get you?" and he said, "well, i'm at 7-eleven," and i said, "oh, okay, yeah -- geary street. i gotcha." he goes, "no, no. i'm in half moon bay." and i was like, "okay. well, can i say you don't sound very good? how about i come pick
