horrific mass shooting at the vta rail yard. nine employees were shot and killed by their very own coworker. cornell bernard is live in san jose with the very latest. >> reporter: investigators are still processing this crime scene at the vta rail yard behind me. that's where the shooting massacre took place. the fbi part of this investigation. a memorial to the victims is growing at city hall. and we have learned that the suspect's father is now apologizing to the victims. sylvia brought flowers and her own prayers for the employees. >> this is a challenge. and we have to support each other.

>> reporter: the so many now boarded up. police have left his neighborhood. on friday police detonated what was initially thought to be a suspicious device found in cassidy's home. >> inside the pot they located ammunition. around the pot there was accelerant. >> reporter: investigators uncovered an estimated 25,000 rounds of ammunition, a dozen guns and 17 molotov cocktails. they say cassidy's guns weren't locked away, rather stashed in different doorways ready to use.

at the rail yard 11 miles away, cassidy first killed several coworkers in one building, then was seen on surveillance video calmly walking over to the second building where he murdered several more. his father apologizes to the victims' families for his son's unthinkable acts. >> reporter: no clear motive still in this crime. vta is planning a public memorial to the victims in the near future. >> many thanks. you too can help support the families of the victims in this tragedy. head to abc7news.com/takeaction.
