hotter day on monday. monday, the heat advisory, heat warnings that will go into effect for some of the hottest temperatures you've seen this year. several other parts of california will also be experiencing this heat wave in the coming days. the state power grid operator said it's not anticipating energy supply outrageouses. officials say there is enough electricity to handle the expected spike in demand. but they will be watching the grid closely. just in case they need to call on the public to conserve. local beaches and tourist attractions could be packed this warm holiday weekend. there was a decent-sized crowd at the beach in santa cruz today. aaa predicts more than 37 million people will travel for the memorial day weekend. four million will be hitting the road. and that includes about 4.5 million californians. and you can always check the weather conditions where you live on our abc 7 news app. it is free to download in the app store.

turning now to the coronavirus, over 17.2 million californians are fully vaccinated against covid-19. another 4.3 million are partially vaccinated. vietnam reported a new variant today that it says is a hybrid of the ones found in india and the united kingdom. as we get close to reopening on june 15th, the bay area counties like marin and san francisco are deploying mobile vaccine squads to lower barriers and get more of the population vaccinated. a look at the leaders are looking to get people shots in their own home. >> reporter: 65% of san francisco residents are fully vaccinated. to reach herd immunity, we need at least 75%

of the population to be protected. >> those remaining pockets of people who do not have the time to get a vaccination, didn't know how to do it. didn't have the logistics. >> reporter: the department of public health is deploying mobile vaccine units. targeting those who kane leave their home or kane don't have access to vaccination sites. >> reporter: among with community groups and the task force, they anticipate the group will go even further. >> we're creating a campaign, vaccinating people at home, and

doing a lot more popup popups. >> reporter: the volunteers go door to door at least six times a week, hoping to make contact with at least 500 people a day. their goal is to continue making those vaccine appointments. in two weeks, they'll be giving those shots at home. >> it's pockets of people that are unprotected. it can allow the virus to have a reservoir. a place to go from person to person. >> if a san francisco residents wants to get vaccinated at home, what should they do? >> reporter: california's want it of health is also building their own outreach.

husband peña, abc 7 news. over in the east bay, it was a beautiful day to get vaccinated. kaiser permanente set up a mobile health fair in oakland this afternoon. appointments were not necessary. the festival brought out community members of all ages. including 12-year-old brentwood residents who told abc seven he was nervous. >> my leg was shaking like the first time i went on a roller coaster. >> this is the different of commune. we together need to come and get vaccinated because we all live together. >> kaiser partnered with true vine ministry to organize today's health fair.

these nine employees were shot and killed by their own coworker. cornell bernard is in san jose with new details. >> i don't know. i just feel like i want to be here. be part of this. >> reporter: sylvia brought flowers and her own silent prayers to the growing memorial outside san jose city hall for nine employees who's lives were cut short. >> this is our town and we have to support each other and we have to support all these families. they're hurting right now. >> we just want to be able to enter into a person's life who have been impacted, and provide some emotional and spiritual support for them. >> reporter: the home of the suspected gunman is now boarded

up. police have left this neighborhood. on friday police detonated what was thought to be a suspicious dis. the alleged gunman had an arsenal of weapons. it's evidence that remains even after the mass shooter simultaneously set his home on fire while he shot and killed nine of his cowork wednesday. >> there was a pot on the stove. the stove was likely turned on. inside the pot, they located ammunition. around the pot there was accelerant. >> reporter: investigators covered an estimated 25,000 rounds of ammunition. at the rail yard 11 miles away, cassidy first killed several coworkers in one building then was seen on this surveillance video calmly walking over to a second

building where he murdered several more. investigators still processing the crime scene here at the vta rail yard. still no clear motive to this crime. cassidy telling our media partners that he saw his son last week and there was no hint that anything was wrong. a vigil was held in san jose for the victims of the vta shooting. a few dozen people attended the event. you can help support the families of victims in this tragedy.

investigators are trying to identify the remains of a boy found in las vegas after he was misidentified. police say a mother had identified the body as her eight-year-old son. but that child was later found camping with his father in utah. now police are once again trying to identify the body. the remains of children have been found buried in a school in canada. all of this part of a program to asim lat them into canadian society. many were beaten and even verbally abused. and up to 6,000 are said to have died. officials say they are still search little ground and could possibly find more bodies.

the veteran tv actor who steered the love boat has died. the family of gavin macleod confirmed he died earlier today. he starred in the mary tyler moore show. he later moved on to the love boat. family members say his health had been declining. grammy-award winning singer bj thomas has also died. he passed away from complications related to lung cancer. he was 78 years old. thomas was a country and pop success, known for hits like "hooked on my feeling." his signature recording was "raindrops keep falling on my head."

a warning tonight from a mother after her teenaged daughter was severely burned trying to imitate a video she saw on tiktok. kimberly crane of portland, oregon, says on may 13th, she heard 13-year-old destiny screaming. she found her daughter in the bathroom on fire. she believes destiny was copying a tiktok video where someone draws a face using flammable liquid on a mirror and then lights it on fire. the seventh grader suffered third degree burns and will be in the hospital for at least two months. >> people say it all the time
