law enforcement is expected to give an update into that vta railyard shooting. today immemorial in downtown san jose continues to grow as the community grieves. flowers, photos and signs of support are a part of the memorial outside city hall. nine 1011 employees were killed last wednesday by one of their coworkers, before killing himself. >> my heart goes out to the entire family and to the community and the vta family . it's a very sad. >> the investigators have yet to determine a motive in the shooting. it will take them several days to collect evidence. happening right now, the vta family is receiving support from across the bay area. you are taking a live look at a vigil that started about an hour ago in union city's kennedy park. the family of one of the victims organized this event.

step this memorial day weekend and hitting the road and getting away. some for the very first time since the pandemic began. in the north by one country seeing some of its biggest crowds and while, which is been great for small businesses. abc7 reporter cornell bernard is live for us in healdsburg, where we can see lots of folks on the river enjoying the day. >> reporter: big crowds today here at memorial beach. a lot of those folks have headed home, but it was pretty crowded. in fact, the parking lot at memorial beach was closed for most of the day because it was just jammed. sonoma county a definite hotspot this holiday weekend, with vaccination rates increasing. people are feeling safe to have fun again. it's a great weekend to make a splash on the russian river. water levels are low, but there is enough to cool off. >> we are just able to relax and

advantage of the sunshine. she folks playing volleyball on the sand and others making their way to the surf with their boards. others needed a family day. the beach is the hotspot in santa cruz as well. lots of folks hitting the sand and water. kind of a similar scene from yesterday, but definitely more crowded today. keep in mind there are no watches for fire or warnings of fire this weekend, but there is a higher risk. the healdsburg fire department performed a controlled burn to help prevent the spread of a potential wildfire. firefighters monitored the flames and allowed it to burn right up to the backyards of some homes. santa rosa's assistant fire marshal says with the warmer weather and people getting outdoors, the danger is already here. >> knowing that there is that potential this weekend we are again, asking communities to be mindful. whether it is adhering to the heat advisory and making sure you are staying hydrated, are

gunmen armed with high- powered rifles opened fire into a crowd just outside of miami. two people were killed and at least 20 hurt. that attack happened just after midnight at a banquet hall that had been rented out for a rap concert. investigators say three suspects got out of in an suv and began to shoot into the crowd before driving away. they say the shooting was targeted. this was the second best shooting in the miami area over the holiday weekend and police are preparing for what could be

san francisco's asian- american and pacific islander community is looking ahead with its annual arts festival. this year the event is called foraging futures and featured theater performances, educational workshops and art displays. organizers wanted to confront hate against the aapi community bring healing. >> that's one of the reasons we wanted to do this event in chinatown, to shine the light on chinatown. this is a way to have the arts bring hope and joy back to san francisco and its out party from the pandemic stick the festival runs until june 27th. the asian-pacific islander culture center has been showcasing music, dance, film and visual art from aapi artists throughout san francisco since 1996. once again getting a check of the weather, things could get downright dangerous for some folks. >> inland tomorrow we will see some of the hottest temperatures so far this year, as a heat advisory will go into effect for the north bay and

inland east bay. we felt the warmer temperatures today. a lot of sunshine out there. wall-to-wall blue out th not a cloud to be seen. tomorrow we will finally see a decrease in their quality. there is a spare the air day in effect tomorrow. across the bay area air quality anywhere from moderate to poor. you will notice hayes in the atmosphere thanks to that ridge of high pressure putting a cap on our atmosphere and trapping the pollutants near the surface. right now a bit of a breeze along the coast, gusting to near 30 at sfo, 20 in oakland. the priest is having a huge impact on our temperatures. right along the coast and parts of the east day temperatures are cool but comfortable in the 50s and 60s. away from that influence, they are hot. 92 in concord, 96 in cloverdale, 95 in brentwood. 91 the current temperature in fairfield. tonight will keep some of the warm weather with us, especially away from the coast.
