out today, especially those who are not working or those who work early in the morning, maybe joining the afternoon hours. you can see the orange areas. that is a heat advisory. that is were temperatures will reach the 80s, 90s, and even someone hundreds. the excessive heat warning means 100 to 105 in solano county. these all start at noon and end around 9:00. where are we going to end up? 60s at the coast. 70s around in san francisco oakland and richmond, mid to upper 80s. you can see the 90s to 100s inland. if you are out, heat exhaustion means you are still sweating when you have heat stroke means you stop sweating. that is where you need to go inside or find some medical attention quickly. clearly everybody had the same idea to beat the heat this weekend. bay area beaches were packed. on the left you can see san francisco's ocean beach on sunday and on the right is the

beach in the santa cruz. we should expect to see those ckg aches today. more peop, for others, many are having to get creative to beat the holiday heat close to home. abc 7 reporter amy hollyfield is live in livermore with one of the hottest spots in the bay area. >> reporter: it will be a day for hopping into this downtown fountain here in livermore. it is not on right now but it will be needed later today. it is expected to get hot. yesterday was a good warm-up for today. it was in the 90s and some sty get sweaty wiseby the heat. >> i drink the water so i stay hydrated and not dehydrated what they really want to do is go home and put the fan on. i was literally sweating. i hope you guys are wearing sandals because it is hot.

mass shooting. law enforcement is expected to update us on the investigation sometime this week. the memorial for the nine employees, growing by the date in the community is still grieving over there lost families, friends, neighbors. vigils for the nine coworkers continue throughout the weekend. abc 7 reporter loose piña was out last night with the victims being hailed as heroes. >> reporter: emotionally distraught, taptejdeep singh 's father spoke about his son. father spoke about his son. the 36-year-old vta operator say goodbye to his best friend. >> to honor my brother in his memory, to help as many people as i can in my life.

potential for asking our communities to be mindful, making sure that you are reducing and/or limiting the activities that could start another wildfire. >> reporter: firefighters are urging people to be careful while clearing brush and grass on their own property. gas powered lawnmowers can start fires in dry conditions. firefighters suggest doing that work earlier in the morning. just because some of those trees and brushes look green, does not mean they are not stressed from the drought and they are lacking moisture. they look like they are vibrant and healthy. here is a look at what is going on with your temperatures. you are looking at very cool weather this morning. if you feel comfortable, you can open the windows and let all the cooler air in. you can see 50s through the tri- valley. a little bit harder outdoors on northern contra costa county.

friday. the suspect allegedly heard threatening to kill asians. one of the witnesses who jumped in is now speaking with abc 7 anchor in a store you will only see here on abc 7 news. we want to warn you that this video is hard to watch. >> reporter: this video shows the terrifying moments friday evening when an asian sf pd officer response to a call about a man attempting to assault women in chinatown and is assaulted herself. >> it was a big i. he was not letting go. he had a death grip on her. he was not letting go. >> reporter: a witness called 911 the day before saying the man, identified by documents obtained as 33-year-old gerardo contreras, saying he lize lling people. according to those same documents, the witness called police once again friday this is what happens. >> stop right there. >> reporter: with the officer wearing a beanbag gun slung across her back engages, asks him to turn around, put his

hands on his head and asks if he has a weapon, contreras turns around and attacks the officer, knocking her to the ground. bystanders quickly jump into action. michael waldorf, in the printed shirt, had just finished eating dinner at a nearby restaurant. >> i felt like it was an emergency. i felt like he could really do damage if we don't get him off of her right away. he could really do some damage. >> reporter: sfpd backup quickly arrived on the scene and the man is arrested. according to the documents i obtained, this is not contreras' first run-in with the law. he has been arrested for assault, elder abuse, and for assaulting police officers and other parts of california. it is unclear if he was ever convicted. >> some people are not safe for society. clearly he should not be let out. >> reporter: the responding officer sustained minor injuries and is expected to be okay. >> we are glad she is okay. i appreciate her service.

in the east bay, the uc berkeley botanical garden is searching for the thief behind danskin usual crime. the garden's director says the tu sunday morning. when the director arrived, the door was smashed about no plans had been stolen. instead, the burglar took electronics from the office on the garden grounds. >> the greenhouse had cacti and succulents and it. cacti and succulents are very popular these days so we were really concerned. unfortunately, the plans were not damage. there were none that were taken as far as we can tell. the things that were lost, we can replace. >> inventory to figure out how much was stolen but he says this is the first time the botanical garden has ever been broken into. right now, one man from marin is embarking on a jaw- dropping challenge. that is him in the big white kayak from yesterday. he was gearing up, just minutes

ago and 5:00 a.m. , attempting a 2400 mile solo journey to honolulu, it does have a sleeping space that is just behind him and that capsule and an emergency locator beacon just in case. to give you some perspective, this is how long the journey will be. this kayak moves by paddling of course so he will be doing that for the next 60 to 70 days. 64 would be a world record. i have talked to this man. he does seem of sane mind. he's got it together. he has done this before but with a group. this is a big challenge, obviously, keeping yourself occupied and keeping yourself mentally well during the journey. >> are the waters going to be, like, save? >> yeah. i asked him about sharks.

part of his journey. here at home, you can see from the east bay hills, where is the fog? gone. for most of us. that is why it will be our hottest day with a heightened fire danger but no red flag warnings. still pretty easy to start a fire but thankfully with light breezes for most of us, it would not spread rather rapidly. heat risk is moderate to high. east tomorrow and then it will pick up a little bit this coming week. i will show you that coming up. 87 in milpitas. very hot in the south bay. 80 to 88 on the peninsula. i would not be surprised if some neighborhoods around redwood city easily hit 90. h the coast. look at this, low to upper 70s for downtown. we jumped from 70 in sausalito to low to mid 90s there most of the northbay valleys. calistoga north, upper 90s to 100.

good morning on this monday, may 31. we are glad you're with us on this memorial day. you are watching abc 7 mornings live on abc 7, hulu live, and wherever you stream. >> we want to start k ouolnicco are you sure you want to start with me? >> look at all of that red and pink. >> the hottest and the most widespread temperatures will be in the central valley but they will creep into parts of the bay especially inland east bay like livermore and antioch, well over 100. lakeport, even hotter, 103, 105. outside of that we will have 90s in the east bay. up in the north bay, 70s and 80s around the bay. would not be surprised if around redwood city we reach at least 90. look at this. half moonbay, 64. the hottest times, the most dangerous times when the heat advisory is out, the oranges from noon to 8:00.

that gives you an idea of how long the heat won't hang around. remember the difference. if you will be out with heat exhaustion, you get overheated but at least you are sweating. we just need to move in and drink some cold water. heatstroke means you stop sweating in your temperature will soar. as you just heard, the inland bay neighborhoods will be feeling the high temperatures. one of them is like livermore. >> reporter: some people told us they were surprised by yesterday's heat. today to 6-pack it to be even hotter. we want everyone to be prepared, have a heads up that this is going to happen. this is expected to hit at least 100 degrees in livermore today. officials have issued a heat advisory. it was in the 90s yesterday. some family get-togethers were a bit uncomfortable because of the heat.

shot himself. developing news this morning. the mayor of miami is expected to give an of a today. a mass shooting and that city over the weekend. two people were killed. at least 20 other people shot early sunday morning. investigators say three suspects pull up to a banquet hall that was being used for a birthday concert in the suspect started shooting into the crowd in what is believed to be a targeted attack. >> it is disheartening but it is a trend you are seeing around the country. we are expecting a violent summer and unfortunately, miami- dade county is not immune to that. >> this was the sendss shooting in the miami area over the holiday weekend. there is now a $100,000 reward for any information leading to the killers. president biden and vice president harris and their families will mark memorial day with a traditional wreathlaying ceremony at the tomb of the

most people hit the roads as we can. an estimated 34 million people drove to their destination. this afternoon will be the busiest time to drive in most cities. look at this. thunderstorms, record cold temperatures really put a damper on holiday weekend for some people in texas. flash flooding is expected in the southern plains today. this was the scene in amarillo, texas last night. pouring rain caused those roads to flood and then a tornado was also seen in that area. a giant cone tornado is spotted. most of the country has not been dealing with such nice weather like we have been. what we are dealing with now, as you can see, are pretty comfortable temperatures. look what is going on across the peninsula. we have temperatures from 49 in

in texas this morning, democrats pulled a dramatic last-ditch walkout at the state capital to block one of the most restrictive voting laws in the us from passing. jobina with more on why this might not be the end of the bill. >> reporter: the measure known as senate bill 7 is one of the most restricting voting bills in the country. it would make mail-in voting harder with time limits on early voting during the week and bar early voting on sundays before one:00 m. which limits what is is is is to as the soul to the polls or after church get out and vote efforts which are popular among black churches. the bill alber seemed guaranteed to reach governor greg abbott's desk. the texas senate had approved the measure in the morning but after about two hours before
