the community. >> another man was trying to use sand to try to blow it out. there were many people working together. >> reporter: this scene isn't news putting the blame on the unhoused homeless community in the area. >> it's not the first one here. >> reporter: about a mile away we found this burn scar on the 101 off ramp. sunday's afternoon fires burned simultaneously. >> the one down the road was actual little bigger and the firefighter actually went to that one first. >> reporter: dash cam video shows the moment san jose firefighters arrived on scene just minutes after many took matters into their own hands. >> we reached out to san jose fire about the incident however no one was immediately available. in san jose, i'm amanda del castillo. this is what has firefighters worried when it got as hot as it did today. this was in the boulder creek

area about three acres have burned. calfire says it's 80% burned today. we're waiting to hear if this was a flair up. a fast-moving grass fire has done extensive damage to two areas. the wind pushed the fire from one building to the other. several residents have been displaced and two had to go to the hospital for smoke inhalation. we don't yet know what started that fire. one look at our network of cameras and it's easy to see why this was the first spare the air day. last season the bay area recordeda record 52 spare the air days. officials are right now sounding the alarm. >> we don't know how this year will look as far as wildfires but the conditions are you know

very dry, and we're seeing high the temperatures already. >> on spare the air days it's recommended you avoid driving to try to reduce air pollution and limit outdoor activities because of that unhealthy air. now let's get to drew tuma. >> we're tracking very warm temperatures inland today it was record heat. some of the hottest temperatures we've seen in almost 6 months. we're certainly sizzling in some spots. 98 in concord. 100 if high in livermore. you get to the coast and you get that sea breeze so it pretty comfortable. 68 in the city. you can see 81 in brentwood. 83 in clear lake. but around the shoreline we're in the 50s and 60s. that fog is going to come back tomorrow and that's going to signal some cooler changes. by 7:00 a.m. we have offshore breeze.

returning. >> reporter: san helena major elsworth isn't celebrating yet. he knows that bringing the community back to prepandemic levels is going to take time. >> the loss was significant, it's going to take some time to come back. a lot of people hit the road on this memorial day. there was this sign of normal on highway 17 as drivers that bumper to bumper traffic. businesses are asking for a little patience especially as the region also deals with a labor shortage. >> the labor shortage has definitely affected us. it may mean we're out of things. again we'll have to ask people for their patients if we just couldn't get something in that day. >> reporter: santa cruz

boardwalk officials say they still have 800 positions to fill as they ramp up for summer. we're going to have more on tourism throughout the bay area. on our app. san francisco city hall lit up in red, white and blue commemorating memorial day. memorial day events were held all across the bay area honoring those who gave up their lives for our country and our freedom. the ceremonies were the first to be held in two years because of the pandemic. >> left, left, left right. >> reporter: for these people in this place memorial day is not about bar-be-que or discount sales but rather a day to remember and honor those who gave their lives in honor of their country. >> it seems like america has forgotten. we're celebrating when all of these soldiers, sailor, airmen, sacrificed their lives for

upper floor. one of the residents tells abc 7 news they heard a pop before the fire broke out. fortunately though nobody was hurt. a driver is in the hospital tonight after a bizarre accident. a lose tire ping-ponged across lanes of traffic on interstate 80 and then slammed right into her car. it happened this afternoon in pinol. the chp says the driver flew off a vehicle driving in the westbound lanes it bounced all the way to the eastbound side. hit a vehicle there then back westbound sitting a second car. the tire then landing on top of a third car injuries the woman inside. you can see a small plane making an emergency landing on a los angeles freeway. the single engine cessna appeared to be intact as firefighters wheeled it off an off ramp. the pilot had radioed an emergency landing might be needed but the reason wasn't clear. no reports of any injuries. wow. now to the bomb shell

no boats, no jet skis, it's kind of weird. >> surreal right. besides the lack of snowfall the ground has become so dry that as the snow pack melts it's absorbed into the ground instead of going into the reservoir. it's just so scary how things can turn on us without any rain. >> yeah, absolutely. drew when you can drive through the lake we have a problem here. >> yeah, and we now have the snow pack it's down to 0% of average statewide. so we're getting no more snow melt from the sierra. we're not going to see any natural recharge of our reservoirs the next couple of months we're tracking at least some cooler temperatures after the hot holiday today. outside we go tonight, a live look at camera. that's going to change we're going to get a little bit of fog which is an indication of the cooler air pushing in.
