abc's faith abubey is here with the latest. faith, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, andrew. for many americans memorial day was the first maskless holiday in more than a year and now even more covid restrictions are being lifted. this morning, more signs the u.s. is returning to normal. new york city's indoor dining curfew expanded allowing bars and restaurants to stay open past midnight. >> thank god is everybody is back. our whole staff is back and hired a number new team as well. >> reporter: beginning today in hard hit michigan restaurants can open indire dining at 50% capacity. in most of pennsylvania distancing requirements have been lifted for businesses although some restrictions remain in place for philadelphia. it comes as the country reports fewer than 20,000 new covid cases per day. the lowest number in more than a year but there is also a significant decline in the vaccinate rate now arranging just over 1.3 million doses per

theaters with a bunch of strangers and watch again. it's been a long time. >> reporter: casinos in las vegas can operate at 100% capacity. andrew. >> faith, thank you. hackers have targeted the world's largest meat suppliers. the cyberattack on jbs usa atexted some of its servers in canada, the u.s. and australia. so far there's no evidence that customers' data was compromised and says certain transactions may be delayed. it's unclear how or if consumers have been affected. the recent attack on the pipeline and ransom may embolden hackers to target more companies. major development in the search for three suspects wanted in miami. police recovered a stolen suv from a canal, the same vehicle seen on surveillance video early sunday when the suspects armed with rifles sprayed bullets into a crowd leaving a banquet hall. more than 20 injured. one victim's father demanded justice.

acknowledged what our ancestors went through. >> reporter: it burned down greenwood district, a thriving hub known as black wall street. all after unproven that a black man assaulted a white woman in an elevator. 300 black people killed. nearly 200 black owned businesses were destroyed. no one was ever held accountable. today president biden visits tulsa to meet with survivors like 107-year-old viola fletcher. she along with her parents and siblings fledded mob. >> i hear the screams and i have lived through the palace kerr every day. our country may forget this history but i cannot. >> reporter: fletcher was part of a lawsuit against the city and others seeking to be paid the estimated $1.8 million no to property loss claims back then. some worry the effort to teach children what happened could be detailed. it took until 2019 to require lessons to be included in history classes.

a new bill could be a setback. it bans the teaching of critical race theory in public schools. >> the bill we signed if you actually read it, it simply says that we are not going to say in our schools in oklahoma that one race is superior to another race and i'm not going to teach a first grader that just because the color of their skin, that they're an oppressor or somehow should feel guilty about something that happened 100 years ago. >> descendants vowed to keep fighting for justice. >> it's air terrible legacy, and think tulsa has an opportunity to be the crucible for the reckoning. >> while in tulsa today, president biden expected to announce plans to reinvest in disadvantaged communities. the governor of texas is threatening to withhold pay from state lawmakers after democrats staged a walkout to block a new voting bill from being passed.

governor greg abbott is vowing to hold a special session to pass the bill which would reduce polling hours sunday and restrict mail-in voting. supporters say the bill would restore election confidence. critics say it will make it harder for people of color to vote. lawmakers in nevada passed a bill to make their first in the nation to vote in the primary season hoping to jump ahead of iowa and new hampshire saying nevada's diversity looks more like america. it would still need approval from the national political parties. a candlelight vigil was oaklandle vigil was held for a missing iowa boy from. 70 miles east to support the family of xavier harrelson and hasn't been seen last last thursday morning. >> he is probably the happiest most joyous person i have ever met, adult, kid, everything. he's like my little nephew and it's heartbreaking. it's heartbreaking. it's hard to find words. >> volunteers have been searching near the boy's home.

. back now with terrifying moments for an asian american police officer in san francisco. she was responding to a call about a man threatening to kill asians when she was attacked by the suspect, who pinned her to the ground. that's when several bystanders jumped in to help free her. the suspect, who has a record of prior arrests, was taken into custody. nestle says it's working to update the nutrition of its products after a report revealed more than 60% of its food and drinks are not considered healthy. the assessment was included inside a company document obtained by the "financial times." executives also reportedly

acknowledged that some of their products will never be healthy no matter how much the company innovates. but the company still insists it will be making its products more nutritious. meanwhile, restaurants are facing big challenges after the holiday weekend, and their customers are paying the price. abc's megan tevrizian explains. >> reporter: this morning as restaurants nationwide ramp up to prepandemic levels, some customers may notice something new on the menu. higher prices. one reason? the cost of food. especially beef, pork, and chicken. is surging. >> we are seeing our chicken prices probably -- well, they're more than double what they normally are. >> reporter: the warehouse grill and drinkery near omaha says it had no choice but to add $2 to all chicken and beef dishes on the menu. and an extra $3 for steak. >> it's not even getting us close to where we need to be, but it will be helpful. >> reporter: the other reason for the price hikes, restaurants and their suppliers are facing a major shortage of workers. which is forcing them to pay
