is being done about it abc's faith abubey begins our coverage from washington. faith, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, mona. summer attacks are increasing across the country affecting just about everything from food to fuel and now public transportation. the list of cyrattacks threatening to impact american life is growing. in new york city the nation's largest mass transit agency says in april its computers were the target of an attack. officials say hackers linked to the chinese government tried to exploit security flaws within the transit system including the city's subways and buses. >> probing another country's infrastructure in case they wanted to at some point if they felt they needed to flip the switch to deactivate, to decommission our system, cause disruption. >> reporter: in massachusetts the ferry system that connects cape cod to martha's vineyard in nantucket also confirming it's the victim of a cyberattack.

the ferry operator says it's working with federal authorities to find the origin of the hack and now asking riders to use cash because its credit card systems are limited. >> the old system is what she had us use, you know, the old card readers, and that was it. >> reporter: this all coming as the fbi blames a cybercriminal group based in russia of hacking into the world's largest meat supplier. jbs says it's on schedule to resume production at all of its american plants today, but the days long shutdown could cause meat prices to climb similar to how another hack from a russian-based group affected u.s. gas supplies and prices last month. >> there is a lot of speculation as to what's the motivation behind this rash of hacks. clearly one of those motivations is to show the united states that their proxy groups are capable of doing these things. >> reporter: according to the cybersecurity firm black fog damages from it could hit $6 trillion this year alone doubling since 2015. abc's mary bruce asking president biden if he will take action against russia ahead of

his meeting with president putin later this month. >> mr. president, will you retaliate against russia for this latest ransomware attack? >> we're looking closely at that. >> do you think putin is testing you? >> no. >> reporter: the white house has not blamed the kremlin directly russia is harboring cybercriminals. mona. >> faith, thank you. prosecutors are seeking a 30-year prison sentence for ex-police officer derek chauvin for the murder of george floyd. they argue chauvin's actions were egregious and shocked the nation's conscience, but chauvin's lawyer is asking for zero prison time, only time already served arguing chauvin has no previous criminal record. his sentencing is june 25th. some republican lawmakers are demanding dr. anthony fauci be fired after the release of thousands of his emails. they're pointing out that fauci received messages early last year warning that the new coronavirus may have emerged from a lab in wuhan, china, even as he publicly dismissed the possibility. many trump supporters believe fauci was working against the

former president, but fauci says his emails show otherwise. >> and that's what i was trying to do was to always tell the truth on the basis of what the data is, and it was never deliberately something against the president. if you look at my emails, i never in the emails said anything derogatory about president trump. >> fauci also acknowledged that being left out of white house press conferences eroded public trust in him. the white house has unveiled new incentives to get more americans vaccinated against covid. they include free child care for parents getting shots and a free beer from anheuser-busch if we meet president biden's goal which is getting 70% of adults vaccinated with one dose or more by july 4th. as of now, 12 states have already met the president's goal. most of them in the northeast, but another six, mostly in the deep south, have yet to reach half of their adult population

with one shot. we have new details about the 14-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy involved in a shootout with police in florida. the kids had a shotgun and ak-47 after running away from afoster home. the sheriff saying the kids were full of hate. abc's andrea fujii has the video which some may find disturbing. >> get hard cover, hard cover. >> reporter: body camera video shows the moments florida's sheriff's deputies were shot at multiple times by two children, a 14-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy who were armed inside this house. >> stand by, shots fired at me again. >> reporter: the sheriff in volusia county northeast of orlando says the two kids ran away from a children's group home then broke into a house and stole the homeowner's guns including a shotgun and an ak-47. >> it appears the female has a long gun pointed toward me. the juvenile male looks like he has something in his hand as well. >> reporter: the sheriff saying his deputies did not fire back at first taking a barrage of bullets for at least 45 minutes. >> they did everything humanly possible not to engage them juni

methodist children's home under an emergency shelter program which has now been temporarily shut down. police say in the last year, they were called to that home 289 times. those who run the home saying, the situation is tragic and is the result of the system failing our children. these children are in desperate need of care in the appropriate setting, which is a higher level of care than we provide. the girl was listed in critical but stable condition. both children are charged with attempted murder and armed burglary. mona, andrew. >> andrea, thank you. and a big story developing overseas. a historic deal has been reached to unseat israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu after a record 12 years in office. an unlikely coalition including a far right leader and a leader of an arab party has agreed to form a new government. it is the first time an arab the for israeen
