trump from posting following the january 6th capitol riot. >> the justice department says about 465 defendants have been arrested in connection with the siege while the fbi is still trying to identify 250 more people believed to have been involved. let's go back to abc's alex presha who's at the white house with the very latest. alex, good morning once again. >> reportet. yes, the fbi conducting that search as former president trump is set to speak to a group of trump republicans today. it's the first time he has spoken since february and, look, we know that both that facebook ban and these criminal investigations are on his mind. >> do you miss me yet? do you miss me yet? >> reporter: for the first time since february, former president trump's returning to the spotlight tonight speaking to republicans in north carolina. but while he's speaking today another of trump's biggest megaphones has been silenced. facebook announcing trump's ban from the platform will last at

least until january of 2023. the social media giant made the announcement friday insisting his words were kindling to the chaos on january 6th. the company pointed to videos like this posted on facebook to supporters while they were attacking the capitol. >> we love you. you're very special. >> reporter: in another post where trump called the insurrectionists great patriots and to remember this day forever. violations were worthy of the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols. trump's blasted the decision calling it an insult but trump's troubles haven't ended there. abc news learning the criminal investigations into the former president are revving up. sources tell abc news the trump organization controller jeff mcconney recently testified behind closed doors. to a special grand jury. that body impaneled by the manhattan district attorney will decide whether to bring criminal charges against trump, his company or any employees.

anyone 18 and up can get it. the j&j vaccine. it comes as the summer travel season is ramping up. you can see over at austin's airport yesterday it was jam packed with travelers as far as the eye could see. but the real focus in many places is not travelers, it's teens, the cdc has been warning adolescents about covid dangers based on a new cdc analysis, hospitalizations for that group now up and a third of those hospitalized in the icu. now, vaccinations overall nationwide have plunged nearly 70% since it peaked last month. dr. anthony fauci warning people that we could get another surge especially with variants floating around that could set us back to the time when we had to shut things down. now many states are trying to incentivize people with a cash lottery for vaccinated residents. right here in california governor gavin newsom announced yesterday that 15 vaccinateded californians got $50,000.

you've been promoting the book nine months. what are you learned from this experience? >> thanks so much for having me. you know, i've learned a lot in the few months the book out there, but mostly all these emails and letters i've been getting from the community and lgbtq community or their family, their friends, their neighbors, who see something in the book that makes them think, oh, that's me, you know, whether it's feeling seen as a young gay person in this country, or maybe a parent or a teacher who is trying to be a better ally. i have been overwhelmed with the response to it. it's really heart warming. >> and all of that is so important but especially for young readers. i mean, with your journey coming out, what do you hope that young readers in particular get out of your story? >> yeah, you know, i came out in conservative rural northern michigan. i didn't know anything about being gay. i thought i was the only one and i wanted to write a book that was very vulnerable and very candid because i wanted other young people who might be going through something similar to see themselves reflected in the page. i'm currently adapting it for much younger readers but wanted

folks to pick up that book and think that somebody understood their story and i think we have to share those vulnerable stories a little bit more so that people feel seen and feel like they belong. >> absolutely, and if a young chasten could see you now making history alongside your husband and sharing your story with the world, what would he think? >> if i could put a hand on his shoulder just tell him to breathe and it's going to get better. i know it sounds awful when you're younger and feels like it's never going to get better but my gosh, to be sitting here in d.c., part of a new wave of hope in washington, it's pretty incredible. >> yeah, and i'm sure very surreal too, so, before we let you go we have to ask about two of the stars in your family, your dogs. >> oh, my god. >> how are they liking being in d.c.? >> you know, they're used to a doggie door back in the midwest so they're adjusting to five walks a day but they get stopped a lot.
