impact it has, the devastation it has for these families. >> reporter: the judge said the ban on illegal military style rifles violates the right to bear arms. he wrote like a swiss army knife, the popular ar 15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment. the governor blasted the comparison, releasing a statement saying the fact that this judge compared the ar 15, a weapon of war used on the battlefield, to a swiss army knife completely undermines the credibility of this decision and is a slap in the face to the families who have lost loved ones to this weapon. nancy pelosi demands a ruling be overturned. >> how do we face the families who have lost loved ones to gun violence? a judge saying that kind of an automatic weapon is the equivalent of a swiss army knife. something is very wrong. >> reporter: san jose mayor said less than two weeks after

the mass shooting at the vta railyard, putting more weapons on the street isn't the answer. >> it is hard to escape the conclusion that a nation with 300 million more guns, the solution is not more guns. >> reporter: not everyone is critical of it. the nra said the judge highlighted what all gun owners know, these types of restrictive gun laws don't make anyone safer, and infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens. >> an ar 15 is a military weapon, it is used to kill a lot of people in a short amount of time. who is coming to your house? the soviet army? >> the weapons ban was challenged by a company resident at the san diego county gun owners political action committee. the attorney general has promised an appeal. vaccine watch, the san mateo county fair kicked off today with carnival rides, food, and covid-19 vaccines.

april 12 and older lined up this afternoon at a vaccination clinic set up at the fairgrounds. the vaccine will be available for county residents tomorrow, sunday, and next weekend. there is a special deal for anyone who gets a shot. to receive free admission to the fair, a $20 food voucher, and four ride tickets. >> getting your vaccine is good by itself, i think it is great, it is just a good deal. >> san mateo county fair organizers say the health and safety of guests is their top priority. the fair runs through june 13th. on the east bay, the search is on for the driver of a brown toyota tundra who is accused of backing over a police motorcycle . livermore police say yesterday a motorcycle officer pulled over and pulled the driver over for a code violation.

the suspect put the truck in reverse and accelerated towards the officer. he was able to jump out of the way. the motorcycle was badly damaged. this happened on northbound isabel avenue near i-5. a family is remembering a young man's death at the hands of police, and at the same time, hoping to help others. we were at lancaster park in walnut creek as a memorial was dedicated to miles hall. he was shot and killed by police in 2019 as he went through a mental health crisis. his mother says they are looking for change. >> training has to happen, we probably have been pushing to change policies and procedures, make sure they have more training. there is more crisis intervention and trained officers. >> the memorial is not just for miles, but our families and friends who have lost someone who went through mental health challenges. we have already seen several

wildfires this year, and the season hasn't even hit its peak months. the north bay is making sure residents are ready. fitch mountain area in sonoma county held an evacuation drill this morning. some people were awoken as sheriff's deputies rolled through with sirens blaring to get people to leave their homes to make the county says it has learned a lot since the 2017 firestorm that wiped out thousands of homes and killed d6 people. >> we do not want to go back to those days when first responders, instead of protecting structures and stopping a fire or sitting there evacuating people and moving dogs around and doing things like that. we don't do chaos anymore. >> more evacuation drills are planned in the coming week. former president trump today returned to the political stage. alex presha tells us this comes in the midst of an ongoing criminal investigation in which some of his former employees are testifying. >> reporter: after being mostly

tonight about what happened on a delta airlines flight for a man apparently tried to break into the cockpit. >> my wife said, look, the flight attendant is fighting with someone. apparently he was trying to get into the cockpit, so, i dove out of my seat and helped wrestle the guy. >> frightening moment there, passengers and crew members worked together to hold the man down as he was shouting stop this plane over and over. this happened yesterday on a flight from l.a.x. to nashville, it was diverted to albuquerque. passengers are commending the flight attendant who took control. >> the flight attendant was a hero, he blocked the door, he

was making sure this guy didn't get in there. >> spectacular job. >> the fbi took the man into custody, the flight continued on to nashville and landed safely. it is 40 years today since the first cases of aids were officially reported in the united states. leaders of the aids movement gathered to mark the occasion, at the aids memorial grove and san francisco's golden gate park. they came to honor the lives lost as well as the survivors and heroes of the aids epidemic. house speaker nancy pelosi was among the speakers flanked by a 40 block outdoor display of the aids memorial quilt. the display was made up of more than 300 panels and stitched with almost 1200 names of those who did not survive. >> their lives were cut short, and it is good that we have come a long way.

asheboro. the student received a diploma holder, but returned to his seat without the actual diploma. school officials say he was denied because he violated dress code. you are working with him so he can receive the diploma another time. the student told a newspaper he wore the fight to represent his family. in the east bay, a group of activists gathered in oakland to nurture healing and demand change as the city struggles with a sharp increase in homicides. the black women collective is holding the event at different marie park in honor of black lives lost to violence. the group says the healing gathering will continue for 24 consecutive hours. oakland reports at least 54 homicides this year. that number was 24th last year at this time. word today that the san francisco's city hall will reopen monday. several city services will be available, as well as access to the general
