>> love it. we will be back. >> reporter: back to you. >> good times out there for sure. we will have highlights of today's race coming up in a few minutes on abc 7 sports. well, abc 7 news is committed to helping build a better bay area. that effort including the focus on issues of race and social justice with san francisco police today releasing the crime numbers. data through june 4th shows the most targeted group in the city is asian americans, the victim of 39% or 11 hate crimes this year. that is up from a total of 9 crimes for all of last year when hate crime against the black community were the most prevalent. 18%, a total of 5 targeted black community followed by 4 anti-jewish crimes. the city reports a total of 28 hate crimes as of last friday. that number was 48 for all of last year.

a group gathered in san francisco today to rally for justice in memory of shawn montarosa. he was killed a year ago by the police outside of a walgreens where there was looting following a george floyd protest. california attorney general office is conducting a review to determine if charges should be filed against officers. the family says they hope new protocols will be established for police shootings. >> there are hundreds of families like ours whos loved ones were taken and accountability went unanswered. we hope that struggle and sacrifice will build a bridge between impacted families and legislatures and elected officials to have the power to bring justice to our loved ones. >> he was kneeling when he was shot from the back of an unmarked police vehicle. the police say the officer thought he had a gun in his pocket but it was
