it's absolutely ridiculous. >> reporter: one week after record-breaking cold and rain on memorial day, the first heat wave of the year is expected from washington, d.c., to boston. records were already shattered this weekend in newark, new jersey. and at dulles airport. at the beaches outside boston officials are warning swimmers beating the heat after a half dozen people have ground there in the past two weeks. on sunday a 19-year-old died after being pulled from the water in quincy. >> go in sometimes. they don't know how to swim. they go in because they think it's a shallow area. also this time of year, the weather is really warm. but the water is very, very cold. >> reporter: it's not just the east coast. heat advisory extended for the twin cities and the fire danger remains high today from arizona to oregon because of hot and dry conditions. a wildfire 60 miles east of phoenix is one of two in the state right now, burning a combined 60,000 acres.

and in california, the drought emergency is only getting worse, the state's 1500 reservoirs are 50% lower than they should be at this time of year. abc's zohreen shah is at folsom lake. if this was a normal time, this lake was full, how far under water would be? >> 70 feet. >> a closer look at the weather. breaking news from california, a young couple is under arrest in connection with the high-profile road rage. the reward in the case climbed to half a million a dollars. overnight, police in california announcing two arrests in the deadly road rage death of 6-year-old aiden leos. authorities say a man and woman in their 20s were taken into custody at their home in nearby costa mesa.

>> he was beautiful, and he was kind, and he was precious. and you killed him. >> reporter: last month, she was taking her son aiden to kindergarten when a car attempted to cut her off a single shot was fired, piercing the trunk, striking aiden in his car seat, the reward in the case ballooned to $500,000. >> the community just pouring funds into the reward and pouring in tips and information about the suspects. >> reporter: officials haven't said if anyone will get the reward money. according to investigators, the arrests stemmed from tips they received after releasing this image of a white volkswagen wanted in the shooting. authorities say they believe wynn was driving. the arrests come one day after aiden's funeral where his sister gave a powerful eulogy. >> i don't get to play mario

can to meet that july 4th goal. however, the numbers right now don't look promising. this morning, more than 63% of u.s. adults have received one dose of the covid vaccine. reality threatening the president's goal of pushing that number to 70% by july 4th. four weeks out, 60 million people still need to get a shot to close the gap. it's an uphill battle as the u.s. vaccination rate continues to drop significantly, down 70% since the peak in april. >> it's a hesitancy by misinformation, particularly on the internet. >> what a shame and a tragedy that we don't make use of something that is for our benefit. where others throughout thwothgv what we have. >> reporter: dr. anthony fauci and first lady jill biden inside an historic church in harlem sunday trying to encourage more people to roll up their sleeves. >> come and get vaccinate. >> we'll end this outbreak,

has arrived in guatemala, where she's meeting with the president to discuss the surge of migration to the u.s. and mexico tomorrow. her trip was delayed by a landing gear problem on air force two, forcing them to turn around after takeoff. democratic senator joe manchin is vowing to block the voting rights bill backed by his party. killing the chances of being passed. it would counter the restrictions recently approved by republicans. manchin says the bill is too partisan, and he also wants to preserve the filibuster, which requires 60 votes to pass most bills. telling fox news he's confident that bipartisanship will prevail. >> question, aren't you being naive about this continuing talk about about bipartisan cooperation? >> i'm not being naive. i think he's 100% wrong in trying to block the good things for america. it would be a lot better if we have participation. i disagree with minority leader
