clearly not getting better. officials have less than a year of water supply and that could lead to the reinstallation of a pipe that once ran across the richmond bridge to ensure delivery. abc 7 news reporter wayne has a look at that proposal. >> as summer approaches, marin county is on the cusp of a record droughts. you can see it in the dusty reservoirs and the livestock that no longer graze on the absentee grass. then there was marin general water manager been in a meeting last night. >> we currently have less than a year of water supply and that is a perilous position for a water agency to be a. >> which is where the bridge could conceivably enter play as a last resort with the rebuilding of a lifeline pipeline using water to the east bay. >> 10 million gallons of water a day coming through the pipeline rescued a county that would otherwise run out in

three months. >> back then east bay mud deliver the water which came as part of emergency grants from the state. unlikely state assembly member mark did address the option at a meeting recently. >> we will see wherll see wherl december. >> east bay mud did come from discussions with a new pipeline last april. >> it really depends on what a planning study would show us. it would really be up to marin to make that decision. >> marin what it describes those talks as being no more than preliminary due diligence. >> is there a plan for a study here? >> not to my awareness but the critical thing is right now the opportunity to address the drought is all about conservation. >> by reducing outside consumption, it offers residence three dollars per square foot if they convert lawns to drought resistant landscapes. that is easier and more cost- effective they say than

rebuilding a pipeline. >> if there is no water -- >> there will be water next year. >> the year is still young with no relief in sight. for marin county, abc 7 news the crippling drought is dropping water levels at the hoover dam to their lowest in decades. hoover dam and lake mead straddled the arizona nevada state line along the colorado river. experts predict water levels will drop to just under 1072 feet. it is the lowest level on record since the 1930s when the dam was being felt. it is mostly a western us affected by the drought it could impact other parts of the country especially when it comes to food prices.food pricei california produces nearly half of all us grown fruits, vegetables and nuts. farmers estimate losses caused by the drought could be in the millions. let's check in with meteorologist drew with a closer look at the problem. >> we just got those latest numbers earlier this morning and it doesn't show the drought

is getting worse across the state. again, almost 85% of the state is in either either either eith exceptional drought. those are the two worst categories. a third of the state is and that worst exceptional drought category that does include much of the bay area. the entire north bay is now in exceptional drought category and parts of san francisco and parts of the east bay as well. we do anticipate these numbers will just continue to get worse as we had to the dryer months of the summer. where to our reservoirs stand? nowhere across our state are the reservoirs where their historical averages are of 100% anywhere from 44 to about 88% of their historical average. unfortunately over the next seven days, we will find warmer weather moving in. we will show you those numbers in a few minutes. it is so dry in the east bay right now that fire officials are saying the moisture levels right now rival what they usually see in

early fall. leslie brinkley says one big worry is that people will set off a legal fireworks and trigger fires in the next few weeks. >> in this simulation, and illegal fountain firework could accidentally land on a a a a a the 1200 degrees parks could ignite a fire. it only took three minutes for the flames to engulf what would have been an attic. contra costa fire protection district is more worried than ever with moisture levels low and an unprecedented proliferation of illegal fireworks in the community. >> 100% of our resources committed at one point last fourth of july, it is a very uneasy feeling to call our neighbors for help and they saya we cannot help you, we are committed with our own fires. >> on june 8, the contra costa county board of supervisors passed a new fireworks ordinance that now holds property owners and vessel

owners responsible if fireworks are found on the property. >> fines start at $100 and then go up. those fines add up. a discovery a homeowner was just nailed with a $26,000 fine for possessing a huge cash of professional grade fireworks last july 4. >> my office will work with our law enforcement partners to deter the use of illegal fireworks and to prosecute those who endanger our community. >> just two weeks ago, someone lighting fireworks in a field in antioch ignited a fire that damaged several apartment buildings and displaced 40 people. if there were 100 fires last june and july attributed to fireworks, this year could be worse. contra costa fireworks even so-called safe and sane ones are illegal. the city of richmond is even experimenting with paint thousands in reward money to people who report on their

neighbors who are playing with fireworks. i am leslie ie ie ie ie ie ie i news. >> we are learning new details about the vta worker who killed nine of his coworkers before then taking his own life. the transit agency released some records related to the shooter sam cassidy's personnel history. i team reporter melanie has story. >> as investigators look for a motive in the vta deadly shootings, there is new information about the gun and. 20 year employee samuel shot and killed nine of his coworkers before taking his own life. the santa clara county sheriff's office previously released photos of molotov cocktails, ammunition and firearms cassidy had in his home including a pot of ammunition on his stove which started a fire there. vta has been examining cassidy's personnel file file f including his disciplinary history. the transit agency says it found no records of formal discipline for threatening

behavior or violence during cassidy's lengthy career. however it is releasing information about four incidents on the last two years that resulted in disciplinary actions. in july 2019, cassidy was sent home without pay for two days because of insubordination. he refused to sign out a two- way radio. there was a verbal altercation between cassidy and a coworker in january of last year. at the time a coworker made a chilling report that another unnamed employee said about cassidy quote he scares me. if someone was to go postal, it would be him. in october of last year, cassidy refused to attend a mandatory cpr recertification siding covid concerns. vta said it made a number of reasonable accommodations with no resolution. last november, cassidy used a vta two-way radio for personal use and then left work without permission. cassidy's dissatisfaction with his employer may have extended farther back than 2019. customs and border protection stopped him in

told abc news he was carrying books about terrorism as well is a no but that detailed hatred for his workplace. vta says there are still thousands of documents to review. so far vta says there is no documentation or history of complaints of cassidy making racist or threatening remarks to his colleagues. for the i team, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. >> the state of california appeal last week's ruling by a federal judge overturning the states three decades-old ban on assault weapons. attorney general rob announced the decision in san francisco alongside governor newsom, health officials, local leaders and gun-control advocates. in his 94 page ruling, judge roger spoke favorably of weapons saying they were overwhelmingly used for legal reasons. >> san francisco supervisor aaron said today he is entering alcohol treatment. this news comes after questions about the longtime politicians conduct at city hall. the 56-year-old has been a force for years in san

aaron is probably one of the most powerful people and long- standing people in san francisco politics. he has been both a thorn in the side and an ally to everybody from willie brown to gavin newsom to edley and most recently london. he also has a history of being abusive to staff and department heads and a history of drinking. you might recall in 2018 there was a fire in north beach from the area that he represents and there were allegations that he had been drinking and trying to tell the fire department how to handle the fire. >> we have a clip from that day. actually, it is video only from that day but this is a situation. >> chief joanne was upset saying he had been belligerent. i texted erin and he said he actually is going into treatment but he is going to continue working and plans to continue on at the board of supervisors. the mayor has said his conduct was not acceptable, so far only one of his colleagues has questioned it.

we have seen this in san francisco and in oakland where politicians can get abusive to staff. it has always been an issue of this sort of a realm of silence around them where their fellow members on the board where the state assembly or the state senate ought not to say anything rather than to call people out for inappropriate behavior. >> it can be awkward in any work situation that is going on. in terms of legacy, what does this mean? >> remains to be seen. it is not the first person to take a break or to get alcohol rehab. gavin newsom, the mayor of san francisco after it became known that he was having an affair with one of his staffers went in for alcohol help. he stayed on the job and then went on to become lieutenant governor and now governor. erin, he is probably in the final term of his time on the board of supervisors. i don't think there is another office out there for him to run for. he might be experiencing burnout but the combination of alcohol and the abuse that we

will be responsible for that warmer weather coming our way especially next week. hour by hour, we will find some high clouds moving into the northbay and those high clouds will stick with us throughout much of the day on our friday. little bit sunnier as you had to the south bay but there is the rain just to the north of us. it is so close with that high- pressure. parts of eureka and even reading could pick up a quarter to a half of an inch of rain. anywhere across the state of california, we can get ring this time of year. for us tomorrow, it is cloudier and a little bit warmer and that breeze is still staying with us. tomorrow afternoon by 3 pm, we can see those wins onshore anywhere from about 20-30 miles per hour. overnight we will find those high clouds moving into the northbay, clear skies as you had towards the south bay. numbers overnight in the mid- 40s to lower 50s. tomorrow a little bit more in the way of cloud cover compared to today and a few degrees

pharmaceutical giant bayer presented plans to the chamber of commerce for massive expansion forts berkeley campus that could create 1000 new jobs. the plan calls for the construction of 900,000 square feet of new buildings over the next 30 years and they plan on doing this without expanding their current footprints. some buildings will be modernized and others completely eliminated with six acres of green space added. >> 7 on your side michael is here with a look at today's consumer headlines. >> let's start with the car recall first. mercedes-benz is recalling more than 375,000 vehicles for a software problem that can cause

the backup cameras screen two t failed. 2019 through 2021 and includes some cars, suvs and vans because faulty software can prevent the video feed from being display. vehicle owners who have mercedes me subscription can update their system by over the air system connection. those without will need to take their cars to a dealer for a fix. the company will contact you. the federal trade commission has agreed to a $61 million settlement against amazon for failing to give its flex drivers the full amount of their tips. the federal trade commission claims that back in 2016 despite saying 100% of tips went to drivers, the company pocketed about a third of the tips and use them to offset the guaranteed minimum payment to the drivers. the settlement represents the full amount of the tips that were withheld and they will be sent to the drivers by the

heights. there are five musicals called in the heights and one made into broadway. >> you only need one. that is what i always tell the kids. i found it super relatable as a chinese-american immigrant, finding a home in america, relying on your community and most of all the nina character, not wanting to fill your family. so right now america is so complicated. to hope this will be a universal story that unites us? >> i hope so. again, i am so glad that nina resonated with you because nina is the character that was closest to me. i'm first generation -- and michael writer is first- generation. we both know what that familial expectation is. we know the burden of family sacrifice and navigating their sacrifices but also wanting to find your own way in the world. i think john understood that. he is also first-generation and his dad started a small business, a restaurant that he
