confirming former president trump justice department seized the communications data of at least two democratic members of congress and members of their family. sources say prosecutors subpoenaed apple for the data in 2018. according to the "new york times," prosecutors were investigating who were leaking information about contacts they had with russian officials. >> very troubling about the lengths this justice department went under then president donald trump. >> congressman schiff is those whose information was seized. overnight, congressman swawell confirmed he was the other targeted. >> i'm not above the law but this feels like a donald trump-driven investigation. i don't have a lot of faith in

his ability to fairly interpret the law. >> sources tell abc news prosecutors subpoenaed communication from aids and family members one of whom was a minor. the data being seized resulted in no evidence connecting them to the leaks but the times reports former attorney general bill barr revived the investigation when he took over the justice department. >> i view bill barr as the second most dangerous person in the country behind donald trump. >> barr did not comment but this morning, schiff, swawell and pelosi are demanding information. >> the committee chairman from the justice department getting to the bottom of how this happened in the first place. >> why this is coming out now, apple was under a gag order until recently. a potential deal to rebuild

the nation's road and bridges. the plan would spend nearly $1 trillion and also lead to higher gas prices. in the nation's capital with more. >> reporter: a group of 10 senators, five republicans and five democrats say they've reached a bipartisan deal. at issue is how to pay for nearly $1 trillion in spending on rail and roads. republicans are fiercely op oesed tax increases but the new plan does include tying the price to gas prices and that would violate the promise not to raise taxes on americans making less than $400,000. working on this proposal. last night, we heard that senate minority leader is open to this but the process is just now getting started. >> thank you.

that potential increase in the gas tax would come on top of already rising prices. drivers are paying 56% more at the pump than last year and only one item fuelling concern. consumers are also paying more for groceries, from meat to cereal to produce. likely to impact prices much longer. let's turn overseas to president biden at the g7 summit. he's set to make an announcement about the taxes corporations pay and set to meet the royal family today. >> reporter: good morning, president biden are focused on economic recovery. the president and g7 leaders are endorsing a global minimum tax rate for corporations of 15%.

a key step toward getting these large companies from seeking out tax havens and getting them to pay more to governments. also focusing on climate change and vesting in infrastructure around the world. we've heard a lot from the white house about how this trip is really about turning the page from the trump administration. the president says he's here to shore up relationships with key allies. yesterday, he met with the british prime minister boris johnson. he certainly sounds like he likes what he's hearing from president biden. >> we've covered a huge range of subjects. it is wonderful to listen to the biden.hb administration and joe- there is so much they want to do together with us from security, nato to climate change. it is fantastic. it is a breath of fresh air.

grandson who died at the scene. the gunman died by self-inflicted. a football coach at michigan accused of lookling the other way. the man making the accusation is the coax's own son. >> one of the most successful coaches in college football history. new allegations clouding his history. two former players and his sown son claim they were sexually abused by a team doctor and claim the coach knew about the abuse and did nothing to stop it. >> he looked at me and said, toughen up. >> claiming he was abused by dr. robert anderson when he was 10. >> i know the truth, anderson abused me and countless others for three deck i had as. he worked at the university to 2003. more than 800 former patients claim he assaulted them.

heart-stopping moment on lake in texas. a boat dangling over the edge of a dam. we're now hearing how difficult it was the save the people on board. a dramatic close call. police say this electric boat with four women on board got stuck on the edge of this dam on a lake in austin, texas. >> a boat with four people in it. it's right up against the dam. it's about a third of the boat is hanging over. >> the front of the boat hanging over the edge. the company that rented the boat to the women sent another electric boat to try to tow them free, but no luck. >> that boat was not powerful enough to move it away from the dam. it was basically keeping it from falling over. >> officials worry both boats could go over. >> they're tied to a second boat. if they go over, they would likely pull the second boat over. >> they shut down traffic on the dam and lowered life vests. but the real concern was what was on the other side. >> basically, after you go over

years is still in prison for a crime prosecutors acknowledge he did not commit. >> i think i've been destroyed. >> reporter: kevin strickland told abc's linsey davis he has always maintained his innocence in a triple murder he was convicted of in 1979. two other men who pleaded guilty also insisted strickland was not involved, and a lone witness recanted her story. so last month, the state prosecutors office affirmed strickland's innocence and is fighting for his immediate release, a process now plagued with frustration. >> this is wrong. the right thing is getting mr. strickland out. >> missouri's governor just last week announced the names of 36 people in the state being granted pardons, but strickland wasn't on the list. >> we look at those case, but i don't know that necessarily makes a priority to jump in front of the line. >> the state supreme court has denied a petition to free strickland without giving a reason. so now that we've gotten to this point, i'm just curious why mr.

strickland is still behind bars? >> that's a hard reality. the only thing i can tell you about that slightly in defense of the system is that it believes in finality. >> reporter: more than a dozen state lawmakers are now calling on the governor to pardon strickland. >> you only want to be pardoned or exonerated. a commutation of your sentence would not be enough. why is that? >> oh, no, no, no, no. i'm not -- that's kind of saying i did it but you feel like i've served enough time. no. i didn't do it. no. wipe it off. >> reporter: if exonerated, strickland will be one of the longest wrongful imprisonments in u.s. history, but he won't be eligible for compensation. missouri compensates for inmates exonerated through dna evidence. coming up, what airline passengers will no longer see when they take their seats. the rankings are out. the rankings are out. the best sugary breaks cereal in the body you are randomly assigned at birth
