i am julian glover. you are watching abc7 news live here on abc7, hulu, and where ever you stream. officials say a fire is at the california waste solutions recycling center near 10th andh pine street. two buildings caught fire. a third structure has been threatened. officials say piles of debris at the yard also caught on fire. viewers, telling us they could smell the smoke as far east in the city as lake merritt. preparing for the worst in the north bay, as residents deal with the real possibility of a wildfire in their neighborhood. today, firefighters are holding volume with terry evacuation drills to get people just encase. abc7 cornell barnard is live with the story, and a big response by the neighbors there, cornell. >> reporter: for sure. lots of neighbors who have seen how dry our hills and valleys are here in the bay area. many say the wildfire was to

start evacuate would be a good idea. >> first aid kit, masks, water bottles . >> reporter: paula lockhart shows as her emergency go bad chock full of everything she would need to evacuate her home in sausalito. there's even a solar charger. >> it will charge your cell phone, tablet. >> reporter: barbara grabbed her bag and hundreds of her neighbors got this message their smartphones. >> this is only a drill. >> reporter: this evacuation drill was voluntary, but many took part . neighbors were instructed to meet up in the staging area in southview park, learning what to do and where to go if a wildfire was to force them at. >> the message is you should always try to go by car. that is the safest way to get everyone out. >> reporter: the drill off a fast-moving grass fire in marin. >> we want to measure the

community is aware of how to evacuate, how important it is to practice ahead of time. >> it's important. no reason not to be prepared. >> reporter: last year, there was no drill for sonoma and napa county residents. thousands were chased out by the monster glass fire which destroyed hundreds of homes. >> this is something we think about all the time, reading the news about the drought and fire season that's coming. we constantly wonder which is the best way to go and who's looking out for us. >> reporter: hours later, there is another go for residents in the neighborhood in mill valley. people got fire safety information and a free solar powered emergency radio. >> we want to make sure we do what's right just in case the sign comes one day to evacuate, which we hope never does, but the firemen will tell you it's not a matter of if. it's a matter of one, so we're prepared. >> reporter: firefighters will tell you being prepared is so important. for more drills are scheduled in other parts of southern marin

later this month. we're live in mill valley, cornell barnard, abc7 news. >> do you know what to do if there's a wildfire? go to our website, abc7news.com. we have a resource guide that will take you through what you need to do to prepare and what you should do if you are being asked to evacuate. in the east bay, a 12-year- old has been arrested following several small grass fire stood yesterday in berkeley hills . one resident mac told abc7 news he saw a fire in his backyard and put it out with a hose . they reignited a couple hours later and spread to a shed, shop causing an explosion. you can see the left behind mass. though spread of flames was to a garage. no one was hurt in any of these buyers. in the north bay in what is believed to be the first in the bay area, water use will be monitored and helms burke, and people could face fines if they exceed the limit. the city yesterday ordered residents and businesses to stop watering lawns enter off

irrigation systems, washing cars, holding down driveways, and ewing hauser washers. healdsburg is rolling out a program to provide recycled water to residents. >> i think we're ahead of many of our neighbors. part of that is a function of where we are on the upper segment of the russian river, so things are a little bit more dire in our location than other parts of the bay area. >> i have to admit i'm a little surprised that people have been really embracing this and not just being angry that they can't access water. i think people understand we need to get this done. >> residential customers there in healdsburg can use up to 74 gallons those who exceed the water allowance can be fined $1000 a day. officials in the north they are hoping to get residents to conserve by giving out free water saving kits today. the marin water district held the drought dropped by to handout these kits.

they lined up to pick up the kits. civil locations across marin, sonoma, and mendocino county. >> we don't have water to waste, and when it's gone, it's gone. >> we are out of buckets just about, and we're very excited about it . people seem to be really happy about all the free goodies. >> the kits include a bucket to catch water for reuse and shut off nozzle for your garden hose, a shower time or , and a water efficient showerhead too. if you take b.a.r.t. to get around, planning your weekend ride got easier. b.a.r.t. added 16 trips to the saturday schedule on the busiest lines . all the entrances that were temporarily closed have also reopened. heart says weekend ridership has increased 27% and it's recovering at a faster rate than weekdays, which saw an 18% increase. we are told by the end of august, b.a.r.t. service will basically be back to normal. in the south bay, san jose police have identified a suspect who struck crashed into an outdoor dining area

last night, killing one person. 32-year-old alex moreno was arrested and booked into the santa clara county jail. he faces charges of felony dui and gross vehicular manslaughter. officials say murano accidentally put the truck in reverse and hit the gas, hitting three people in the outdoor dining area at the agave sports bar. we were there today as crews made repairs. one person died at the hospital. two men were injured and are expected to be okay. now to that developing news out of austin, texas, were at least 14 people have been injured in a mass shooting on a street known for its nightlife. at least one suspect is under arrest, and police are looking for another. here is abc news reporter with the short story.'s >> reporter: shots rang out early saturday morning and a busy entertainment district in downtown austin, texas, and the city's interim police chief said the initial calls came shortly before 1:30 a.m. >> our offices were just amazing this morning.

in the actions that they took , how quickly they took them, and in the fact that i truly believe they saved lives . >> reporter: a witness described the chaotic scene. >> there was no escalation, no altercations anywhere. you heard the gunshots, but for rapid gunshots, pop pop pop pop. you just saw bodies everywhere, people screaming. >> reporter: victims were transported to local hospitals, some in vs police vehicles, or summon ems vehicles. >> we have victims that remain in critical condition, and we have 12 victims that right now are in stable condition. almost all of those victims are innocent bystanders . >> reporter: multiple agencies, including the fbi and atf, are assisting the austin police department . >> we have developed suspect in this case are two male suspects. this does . to be an isolated incident between two parties . >> reporter: investigators are reviewing numerous videos

on the peninsula, you can get a shot and some free rides there. the san mateo county fair is offering people vaccinations this weekend with a little reward too. people get free admission, a $20 food voucher, and four ride tickets. it's right by the main entrance and anyone 12 or older is eligible. you can even choose your vaccine since pfizer and johnson & johnson are both being offered there. no appointment is needed. the fair run still tomorrow. more than 18.6 million californians are fully vaccinated against covid-19. that's nearly 55% of those who are eligible to get the shot. the state says nearly 3.8 million people are partially vaccinated. on average, close to 143,000 doses are being administered each and every day. well, we all know just how good steph curry is basketball court, but he can also be an mvp off of it too.
