coast, about a half a mile. mt. diablo it looks like they pulled the shade down. you can see the deck of low clouds. 60, oakland. 62, san jose. sin clear sky and san rafael. the dew points are not in their normal range with mid to upper 50s so there will be a muggy feel throughout the day. midmorning, the fog clears and we are sunny mac and 72 mid- sunday around the bay. we will talk about the heat arriving in the middle of the week and the arrival of summer at the end of the week. the week is here and two days, california will climb out of the pandemic restrictions and be able to reopen in full for the first time in more than a year. the impact on the local economy is one of the key focuses in building a better bay area. this morning a closer look at the rideshare industry, facing

a crunch as more get out. driver shortage in higher prices. abc7 reporter j.r. stone spoke with what it means. >> reporter: uber, lift, it used to be obvious which was cheaper, but not anymore as the demand for all three is rising. >> we are getting back to normal. >> reporter: getting back to normal means people want to go places and get rides to those places. >> there's a large demand of rides but a small demand of drivers right now. >> reporter: theory is an uber and lyft driver who said the last two months have been good to him. >> i make way big-money. >> reporter: glance at the surge prices in part to the bay area and you can see drivers are in a hot demand, especially in the east and south days. until there are more drivers, riders will likely continue to pay. >> it is much more expensive.

>> my house is a mile and a half from here and it's a $30 uber. >> mind blowing compared to what used to be. >> my friend came here and she arrived last night and the uber cost was $70. >> it was cheaper to take a taxi and faster than an uber. >> reporter: some say drivers have opted to do food delivery and others have found new jobs and some continue to take an employment instead of coming back. but not those like larry the said he sees the demand and is helping to meet it. it's up in the air to how long these high prices will last. experts believe it could be three months and possibly until unemployment benefit and for some people. >> on our website, we have a

one neighbor told abc7 news that he saw a fire in his backyard and he puttered out with his hose. it reignited a couple hours later and spread to a nearby shed which set off another explosion. the flames spread to the garage, doing substantial damage. nobody was hurt in fires. in the north bay, neighbors are preparing for the worst, dealing with the possibility of a wildfire and ski their backyards. firefighters are running voluntary evacuation drills to get people ready. abc7 reporter cornell barnard shows how they work. >> first aid kit. masks. water bottles. >> reporter: barbara shows us her emergency go bag. it's full of everything she would need to evacuate her home. there's even a solar charger. >> it will charge your cell phone, a tablet. >> reporter: she grabbed her bag after she and her neighbors got this alert message on their

smartphones. >> this is only a drill. >> reporter: this drill was voluntary, but many took part. neighbors were instructed to meet at the staging area learning what to do and where to go if a wildfire was to force them out. >> you should always try to go by car. that's the safest way to get everyone out. >> reporter: the drill was organized by the fire district which fought a fast-moving grass fire in marin city on friday. >> we want to make sure the community is aware had to evacuate, how important a practice ahead of time. >> it is important. no reason not to be prepared. >> reporter: lester there was no drill for sonoma and napa county residents. thousands were chased out by the glass fire which destroyed hundreds of homes. >> this is something we think about all the time. you read about the drought and fire season that's coming. we wonder which is the best way to go and who's looking out for

that and now we know. >> reporter: there was another drill for residents in the tam valley neighborhood. people got fire safety information and a free solar powered emergency radio. >> we want to do what's right just in case this sign comes to evacuate, which we hope never does. it's not a matter of if but when. >> reporter: firefighters will tell you that being prepared is so important. four more drills are scheduled in souther marin later this month. >> it could be a first in the bay area to deal with the extreme drought crisis. water use will be monitored in healdsburg and you could face a fine if you exceed the limit. on friday, the city ordered all residents and businesses to stop watering lawns and turn off irrigation systems. power washes, car washing, and hosing down driveways are off- limits.

stuff. you can see the stuff that's inside the house it's coming into. >> it's real bad. >> some said they smelled the smoke as far east as lake merritt. the causes under investigation. details about the deadly crash in a san jose bar outdoor patio friday night. the manager of the bar is describing the moments that led up to the crash. the crash killed a woman and injured two other men. abc7 reporter luz pena spoke to the manager . >> reporter: agonizing moments at the san jose bar last night around 9:00. a woman was killed by a suspected impaired driver who plowed a pickup truck through fence into a group of customers at a sports bar and grill. she says she was lucky.

she was about four feet from the crash and survived, thanks to her friend who pulled her away as the vehicle sped up behind her. san jose police arrested alex moreno for felony dui and gross vehicular manslaughter. according to the manager, the suspect sat in his vehicle for 30 minutes before putting the car in reverse and hitting at least three people. she says there were 30 customers in this outdoor area. the manager is still shaken and refused to speak on camera, but said alex moreno tried to flee after the crash but security guards held him down for 15 minutes. the woman passenger in the vehicle wasn't injured. the pickup truck had a side local from bay area construction company, qec. tonight the ceo confirmed to abc7 news, alex moreno is a field superintendent and said in part this is devastating

details in the viral video from a delta airlines plane cabin. another unruly passenger forcing an emergency landing for making terrace of threats and assaulting two flight attendants. video was aboard the flight from l.a. to atlanta. several men were able to pin him down while he kicks and screams. police identified the suspect as a go off-duty delta flight attendant. he at one point said he was going to take down the plane. >> the perpetrator was telling passengers to return to their seat because oxygen masks were going to be required. >> the plane landed and he was put in custody and taken to a local hospital. the federal aviation administration just put out data on these passenger incidents. the agency identified nearly 3000 reports of unruly behavior in 2021.
