you are watching abc 7 news at 6:00 live here on abc 7. hulu live and wherever you stream. abc 7 is counting down the days to june 15th. in less than two days california is set to reopen. that means on tuesday if all goes as expected our 15 month long ordeal of public health restrictions, bans and color coded tiers will all come to an end. the light at the end of the tunnel is as close as it has ever been the past 15 months. bay area businesses and communities are now gearing up for the big day. one city is even planning to throw a party. >> i'm vaccinated my friends are vaccinated. >> reporter: erica smith is ready for california's reopening day. >> to me it means seeing more of my friends and being more social. >> reporter: businesses are preparing, all venues, restaurants, bars opening at 100% capacity if they choose.

>> what does reopening mean to you? >> back to normal. >> reporter: servers are ready for the grand reopening of barrel room bar and restaurant in san francisco's financial district that closed in march of 2020. staff is getting a refresher in wine pairing and food service. >> i am excited. i am nervous. most of the staff are really excite about it. >> reporter: starting on tuesday the state is ditching the color coded tier system and dropping face masks restrictions in most cases for fully vaccinated people. social distancing requirements will also be lifted. >> we will ditch the masks and celebrate. >> he is planning a reopening part on tuesday near the b.a.r.t station. >> we will have the bbq area here. >> we will honor fire personnel, we will be honoring teachers. >> reporter: in other places like this san francisco's union square the reopening celebration will have to wait.

long passed june 15th. store fronts are boarded up. many businesses were lost to the pandemic. >> san francisco will bounce back. there is just going to be a harder bounce than expected. >> tragically my uncle passed away from it. i was hospitalized for a little over a week. >> reporter: san jose planning president is a covid- 19 survivor. he hopes the lessons of the last year will not be lost with reopening. >> we all absolutely need one another. if we are going to be better before the virus you have to remember that. >> reporter: abc 7 news. apple is dropping the mask requirement at stores and offices. bloomberg reports it can happen as soon as california reopens on tuesday. apple notified the employees of the chicago. customers not vaccinated will still be required to mask up. those employees have been told they will not be required to ask for proof of vaccination. workers will still need to wear

we have been talking a lot about this drought. how bad is it? the point reyes seashore had to bring in water troughs. a lack of water can cause the animals to die because they rely on the sources drying up. the population at the point has been dropping something that the park is attributing to the drought. no water means the grass that the water the elk feeds on does not pack the new streugz that they need to keep moving. a grad offers words of
